RE: Robart Landing gears Vs other ones for Ziroli P38
I agree, Lenny at Shindin is great to work with and He answers the phone. Also included free shipping on my custom made retracts. I asked for 1/2 in. tubing on the strut and he used 5/8 tubing with no extra charge. BTW it was his suggestion on the tubing. Great guy and fast service. Thanks, Fred Menna Check6

RE: Best prop for a G 38?
Hi guys, Thanks for all the input. I had a 20 x 8 TF power prop on it and it flew it OK. I'm going to try a Xoar 18 X 10. I think that will give me a little more performance. Thanks, Fred

Strut length on YA Zero?
I have an 82 in. Zero don't know if it's a Giant Scale planes kit or World models. Any way was wondering if the Yellow aircraft Zero gear would fit. My strut length is 9 1/2 in. from axel to pivot point. Thanks, Fred

RE: Byron Corsair flap Measurements needed
Hi Vinny, Measure 3 3/16 in. from trailing edge. Remove the whole gull wing section. Middle flap is 5 1/2 in from the outboard edge. This sets the length of flap # 1 closest to the fuse. Outboard flap runs to the edge of the aileron. I can make a copy of my instructions if you need them. Thanks, Fred

RE: Yellow Aircraft Spitfire Build !!
The stock bushings on the yellow wheels were just a bit to large which caused some wobbling of the Sierra axel. Axel diameter is 1/4 in. Bought some brass tubing 1/4 in. inside diameter and drilled out the wheel bushing to accept the 1/4 in. inside bushing. When installed makes a nice slop free bushing for the axel.

RE: Yellow Aircraft Spitfire Build !!
OK Ailerons have been cut out from the wing panel. I always glue in balsa anchor blocks for the hinges. Yellow shows only the leading and trailing edge stock which has the hinges glued into foam and no balsa. This is not very secure. I glue in 3/4 in balsa blocks and then glue the leading and trailing edge stock on to the face. This gives you a secure anchor point of an inch of wood.

RE: Yellow Aircraft Spitfire Build !!
I definetely like the balsa tips. You noticed I glued the tips in cross grain, this makes shaping the blocks easier by filing and sanding across the grain. Glassing remains the same continuous from root to tip. I have started on the flap sections. Yellow wants you to laminated a solid piece of trailing edge stock to 1 /32 ply. If you do this it doesn't fit well into the flap cavity and doesn't look scale. I chose to use the ply blank and glue in 1/2 leading edge piece and 3/32 ribs. This makes for a light , strong scale looking flap section.

RE: Yellow Aircraft Spitfire Build !!
Put the fuse aside for a while and starting on the wings. I'm not a big fan of the fiberglass wingtips supplied in the kit so I fabricated new ones out of 3/4 in. soft balsa blocks. These will be stronger and won't deflect if you grab a wingtip.

RE: Yellow Aircraft Spitfire Build !!
OK guys, I have made an error with the engine installation. I installed the engine vertically when it is suppose to be mounted on an angle to line up with the fiberglass shell that is on the firewall. When you angle the motor it allows the muffler to fit closer without having to cut up the cowl. This was pointed out by Tony Gag Jr. who owns the Spit that I'm working on. Fortunately everything was just tacked glued which allowed me the pop out the firewall with no damage. Had to realign everything but now it fits like it's suppose to. Thanks for pointing that out to me Tony before I locked everything in.

RE: Yellow Aircraft Spitfire Build !!
OK Now we fit the engine to the fuse. First you slide the firewall into the fuse. Then clamp the whole engine , spinner backplate assembly to the front of the fuse. place in a 3/32 scrap balsa for proper spinner clearance. Slide the firewall against the mounting standoffs and Thick CA the standoffs to the firewall. This gives you the outline to drill the mounting holes. Remove the whole assembly and then drill the mounting holes for the engine. You can then drill access holes to adjust the needle valves. Reassemble the whole setup again and tack glue the firewall in. When dry remove the engine and run a nice fillet of glues and glass cloth to the front and rear of the firewall.
