RE: Issues with Tarot ZYX FBL system
Reply to my own Post: Problem solved: moved the FBL conversion to another of my TRex 450's with complete success. I'll sort out the issue on the other 450 at another point in time. I'm guessing it's a combination of servos and perhaps an issue with the swashplate itself. The setup process on the Tarot system was very straightforward using the USB link and PC software. I haven't had a chance to fly it full-on outdoors yet. However, did a bunch of hovering in my buddy's basement and it was very easy to manage indoors , even at eye-level. it's very cool looking too and I'm sure that I'll be converting the rest of my heli collection very soon. Regards. Chop

Jay: Praise God no one was seriously injured - or worse! My deepest regrets on the loss of your things! I know it hurts! Please give Donica a good word on my behalf! Hang tough buddy, which I know you are and you will! The insurance racket is bad news! The only winners seem to be the uninsured (worse still, the under insured) with nothing to loose! Ever forward! RE: Heli stuff and fellowship
Hi all: Nice RCC Mack, sorry about the crash! Congrats on the MCPx Matty. Best daily flyer ever! Anyone ( I'll bet Jim since he gets it ALL via the hobby shop) had exposure to a Novus 125 CP? I've got some questions about the transmitter programming and the TAGS setup. Have fun everyone! Chopper

Congratulations on the progression Mack! Ever forward... Jim: As is evident within some of my typically mundane posts, I love to tweak, tinker, mod, improve and even repair helis and mostly anything for that matter. I'd kill for a gig that involves heli work and I be fine if every case was a basket case! You are a lucky man. Chuck

Wow Mack! Best RCC ever!! Wonderfully crafted and you had me rivited like a Dean Koontz novel! I could hear the thunder, smell the rain and feel the wind and the tension to get all the craft safely on terrafirma! However, I made the mistake of reading it at work and now I'm shot for getting my mind on anything as mundane as my job! Might have to go home due to an eye problem. I cant see staying here! Le Chop

RE: Heli stuff and fellowship
It's a wonderful heli. Very fast and agile. Flies great in the wind, hovers rock solid and is as durable as an MSR, which is near bullet-proof! I've been experimenting with the tail for a good while, which led to other mods (bigger main blades, bigger disk and way bigger battery) and now I've changed mine up so much that it has totally different characteristics. This is unnecessary, but there are some tweaks that must be done to make it as predictable as desired. Jim mentions these in various places. Get yourself 1 and have big fun! Chop.

RE: Heli stuff and fellowship
Hey David! Yeah man it feels great! I believe there is a chasm in the learning plateau that is only transversable via a leap of faith in ones ability. You get to that point where you know analytically that you're there, but some of us have to turn off the computer and let the heart drive! One day I was in a real bind and was running all of these "minimized damage" crash scenarios in my head and was suddenly compelled by something my mom had said to me when she was 87 - "suspend all cognitive thought and just BE"! In this instance it translated into " just fly the dang thing"! I did! What is exciting now is that when I get in a bind and I do frequently, my thumbs are unraveling the mystery faster than I can rationalize! Now that feels good! The generator is made by Chicago Tools. It's nothing fancy or exotic for sure and has an old school look to it that I like! Weighs about 12 - 15 lbs and is easy to carry. It's a 2 stroke (50 to 1) and I picked it up for $80. I can load up about 8-9 amps and I really like the fact that it's got DC out as well as AC, so I can do all sorts of things in a pinch! Well, the weather is shabby, but I'm gona hit the field (figuratively only of course!) and try to get in a few before the rains return, which looks immanent! Best to everyone! Le Chop

RE: Heli stuff and fellowship
Hi everyone! Gotta be quick! I'm flying and not crashing! Ive been focusing on the mCPX, SR, Trex 250 and the B400 in that order every time I fly. Also flew the new Stinson Reliant foamie and it is a wonderful plank! Looks so scale and the flaps really give it a sloooow ground speed. Just received my new F35 "Thunderbirds" version 64MM EDF foamie, which I'll complete tonight and hopefully maiden this weekend providing the weather is friendly! Bought a little generator so I can be assured of charging under any circumstances! Man I'm gone on this hobby! Luvs ya all! Choppy

RE: Heli stuff and fellowship
Yeah Jim. Extended mine a while back. I've got a threaded rod in the frame, into which I thread a piece of CF rod and then the stock boom slips into that nice & tight. I Heat shrink everything, which also alleviates the delamination of the stock boom. I'm experimenting with different boom lengths and the increase in moment provides dramatic results! Also been messing with a throttle and rudder program mix whereby some right yaw is applied with an increase in throttle.! I can get it looped, rolled and into an inverted hover, but not moving much outside of hover yet. Been focusing (probably more accurately fixating) on my Trex 250. What an adorable heli! Lost orientation a bunch, but no crashy yet! Given the small stature coupled with the black CF frame, boom & CF stabs, it only takes a millisecond to loose it! I'm working on a plan to add some "markings" which I believe will really help. Gonna finally maiden my Stinson tomorrow. Just been too wet to do the ROG thing and I didn't want to hand launch such a scale bird. Bye for now everyone!

RE: Heli stuff and fellowship
Hi all! Well, last Saturday was the Heli Fun Fly at the Columbus Aero Club. I'm told it was a small turnout relative to 2010, but it was fun for me! A lot of big, bad choppers with flyers to match. Personally, I've been flying everything I've got (saving the Trex 450 for full-on summer) and have made great progress. I've had the mCPX in an inverted hover, but it needs some tail work to alleviate blowout. I've flown both the SR and the B400 all over the place with no mishaps. I purchased a Trex 250 from a club member as I've been captiated by them since the dome flying last winter It's a beautiful and precise little helI, so much more sophisticated than other stuff I've got, but, I still love each one! The 250 flies like a hummingbird and can do virtually any 3D stuff. Anywho, I'll post some pics and links to vids from the heli fly soon. Later everybody!!! CC
