SPEEDWORLD RC is not closing
The Arizona Republic Newspaper is reporting that Speedworld is closing. While certain venue's within Speedworld may be required to shut down, this does not include Speedworld RC Fliers. We are, and will remain, open for business. Flying, and the morning BS session, is in full swing. The 2013 Desert Jet Storm will be the biggest and best ever.

RE: FLY EAGLE JET models 2012
The mail lady said, "The lading says it's a toy airplane, but it must be really small 'cause I've never carried a box this big that weigh's so little". I replied, "actually it's really big". My summer (in Arizona, it's 112F outside so we build in the summer and fly all winter when it's 70F) project just arrived from China, via NYC, if you can figure that one out. A new F-15, all done up in Honeycomb on the outside and a carbon fiber interior. A custom build and Fly Eagle got everything perfect. Lowell, it exceeds my expectation; but of course it needed to as for this old SALT to fly an AF machine it has to. Thanks for the pictures along the way, and particularly for the constant up-dates with respect to the project. We'll have her ready for Desert JETS........doesn't take long to put servo's and turbine in it. As the mail lady said, "this thing is really light".

RE: Desert Jet Storm has Expanded
George, We had 62 pilots (and ran out of pit space) last year and nearly 5000 spectators over the week. With our expansion we are hoping for at least 80 pilots in 2013. Please bring your "wagon" to the Valley of the Sun". You'll not be disappointed.

Desert Jet Storm has Expanded
Due to the growing popularity of Desert Jet Storm we have expanded our northern pit area dramatically. Paving and striping was completed this morning. Planning is well in progress and our next endeavor is to enlarge our Flightline Kitchen as to eliminate the lines we've experienced the past couple of years. The 2013 dates for Desert Jet Storm remain February 4-10. Plan on joining us for a winter week in the SUN........don't join us right now, as it's 112F here today.

RE: BOOMERANG ELAN - New Build & Setup Thread!
The Maiden: No big deal except for the shaking knees..........I've got more than 1200 logged Elan flights, but a new bird is just that.......apprehension and adrenaline, but she flew just like an Elan. One click of left aileron and two clicks down elevator is all she needed. But; there is something different about this Elan over the others I've flown. First, this is the easiest to see. For those of us who passed through Kingsville on our way to Gold wings there was a reason our airplanes were painted the way they were (and still are). Visibility, and this scheme is no different........it's just very easy to see. Secondly, the P-100. Wilcox; you have a winner here. Small, light, and starts nearly as quickly as a propane engine. The acceleration curve going up is unbelievably fast (slightly slower coming down), and there is no residual thrust to speak of. Additionally, it's a virtual drop in. Alan/Patricia, thanks again for another fine machine.

RE: BOOMERANG ELAN - New Build & Setup Thread!
Same wonderful Elan is now available dressed up looking like she is home ported in Kingsville. This one has a new P-100 in it and Wow, was it easy to rig. Additionally, she just drops in. Maiden planned for tomorrow. Keep you posted.

You young guys amaze me, and how I relish to be young again. Carole and I now have 3 Great Grandchildren, and yes, I still make an attempt to fly a Jet now and then. But; and interestingly, the T-28 seems much more fun every time I fly it.

RE: Maj. Woody's X-Treme Jets F-4C Phantom
That is complete but totally dry. I've used JR DS3421 servo's throughout; except for one 8711 on the flying stab, and a UP3 valve to help keep the weight down. Batteries are in the nose with just a few BB's to balance slightly ahead of the forward wing rod. I've also put three small air tanks in, vice two large, one in the nose with Batts and one each aside the turbine. Can't wait to fly this machine, but no relief in sight with respect to the heat and fire situation here in Arizona.

RE: Maj. Woody's X-Treme Jets F-4C Phantom
Dom, I've made a couple of changes to Phantom since we last communicated. I decided to go with a new P-100 rather than my 120SX. The airplane only weighs 18 pounds and as you know the new Jetcat series of turbines is very east to rig. They are also very small. Our entire State has just been given a Red Flag Warning, so I probably won't be able to do the maiden until our monsoonal winds bring some rain; usually July. Our density altitude is now over 6.7K with our very warm temps. Keep you posted.

RE: Maj. Woody's X-Treme Jets F-4C Phantom
Mine is ready to go, but we've entered the HEAT season (with humidity at 4%) and it's just too hot to do a maiden (106 today). We're also surrounded with our traditional wild fires and visibility is very low due to the smoke, so I'm going to sit on it a bit longer. I did drop my tail pipe angle down 1/4 of an inch as the tail feathers were warming up considerably. It helped a lot with the heat on the ground. Buck suggested it, as he did it on his big one. Staying tuned......

RE: Desert Jet Storm and the FAA
NOW, the rest of the story........Luke AFB maintains an auxilary field 5 miles west of Speedworld, thus advisory control of the airspace over us is maintained by Luke. Occasionally we will see an F=16 (or two) in the area but they are always at at least 3000' Very rarely a private aircraft may happen by but that is the case when our FAA inspectors were visiting on Thursday afternoon. We had 5 jets in the air at the time and as soon as the "very old Cessna" was seen one of the spotters yelled "Full Scale", our pilots brought their craft down to 2-300' until the "lookie lou" cleared the area. The "smoke" I was giving the inspectors about safety procedure became reality. It couldn't have been better orchestrated had it been done in Hollywood. And now, our field is protected and "Charted", and we'll receive a NOTAM for our jet rally's. One other note; the day we did the demo for the "Director" our AMA AVP was present. It's all about communication and relationship and it appears it has all come together for us.

Desert Jet Storm and the FAA
Those of you who were at this year's DJS know that on Thursday afternoon we received a surprise visit by two members of the FAA's Inspection and Safety Team. Following their ninety minute visit they declared our operation "SAFE" and gave us a "Carry On" (whew). Two week ago we received a call from their "BOSS" the Regional Director, requesting an audience and a briefing. Tuesday we provided him a tour, briefing, and conducted a Jet Demo Flight. We're please to announce that we have received letter confirmation from him declaring and ensuring our field with a routine altitude to 1000' (agl). Additionally, that altitude will be raised to 2000' (agl) during Jet Events. YAHOO [:)].

RE: Desert Jet Storm Pictures
I want to thank all of you for the kind and generous comments you've made but it's important to know that DJS was a complete team effort. We are blessed to have a group of men and women who truly love this hobby and are very willing to contribute the effort necessary to make an event of this magnitude possible. I want all of you to know that the Saturday Tour through the Pits was not our idea. A group of pilots, represented by Dave Bottita, suggested that we try it next year. It was such a great idea we decided to implement it immediately. The folks who need the credit are the pilots who volunteered to act as tour guides. We had more than we needed. Lastly, please send in the critique sheets that you received in your registration packets. We truly want your input. We'll see you around the circuit and in the meantime, FLY SAFELY.
