22D vs 22E & cost of RTF version of 22D/E
I bot two 22D's Ready to fly - at a 'special price' of US$175 each (probably still way too much) from TrendTimes, and the flight sim "Tru-Flite 3D 2.0" gives me an error message that it is "Unable to detect the transmitter adaptor" (I've already spent upwards of 2 hrs re-installing anything that can be re-installed or re-hooking up and re-booting but the flight sim won't load). Even a demo (higher version) of the flight sim "TruFlite version 5.something" won't properly install and the company's contact url does'nt exist anymore. Yet Walkera refers to TruFlite 2.0 as if there is no problem. The Walkera forum also lists a few people in 2006 with the same problem. I bot the 22D so there is less chance of damaging the tail rotor MOTOR -- It does'nt have a tail rotor motor (tail rotor is driven by main shaft via a rotating horizontal shaft in the boom) Walkera told me the 22D is an 'older model' so they won't list it among their products and the 22E is a newer version. Here is the package as it was supplied : http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/trendtimes_1961_8805966 A couple of questions: #1.) If you did get it RTF<<, What did you pay for your 22D or 22E in the Ready To Fly version. #2.) I'm trying to determine whether I can more or less tag along with the 22E crowd in reading up on problems and solutions for the 22E and apply that to the 22D. #3.) I'm not sure wether I should keep my 22D's , seeing how much trouble you guys have, and maybe get onto a more long-term, easier electric heli (I'd rather trade cost for less headaches). <> Anyway, I expect to do serious sim time <> Crashing sim is cheaper. Thanks in advance. Chris

Walkera 22D Transmitter - Power LED's show both Red & Green despite new batteries
Walkera 22D Transmitter - Problem #1: Power LED's show both Red & Green lights despite new batteries, which according to the manual means extreme power shortage. I re-installed the 8 brand new AA batteries (bought today fresh from the box) and I am sure it was done correctly, including plugging in the power leads from the battery cage into the unit. Problem #2: When hooking up the transmitter to the computer: the transmitter is not detected, no matter how many times I attempt to start up the s/w: I reinstalled all software and re-plugged all plugs, and rebooted the computer a few times, and am somewhat at my wits' end. One thing I am not sure about: The Walkera transmitter came with a serial cable that had a female 9pin on the end that should hook into the computer, which did'nt fit into my laptop, so I bought an adapter (a second cable) to continue from the female end, via a male 9pin serial to USB adaptor, with CD. The related CD for the 9pin male to USB I also installed twice and rebooted. >> Now if you say that this combination is a fickle arrangement, I guess, I would exchange the second cable for a direct, single cable that starts at the transmitter unit and goes directly to the USB port. << But, frankly, I think my two cable combination should work. Here is a link to what my package is composed of, and you can see the female end of the serial cable. http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/trendtimes_1961_8805966 (I paid about 35% less than the stated price) Anyway, Thanks for your input.

Ni-MH 650mAh 9.6V versus LiPo 1300mAh 7.4V
HOW MUCH LONGER WILL THE LiPo last over the Ni-MH under non-agressive flight ?? I bot a Walkera 22D - came with a Ni-MH 650mAh 9.6V 8cell battery and related charger (OUTPUT: DC 15V 300mA) The manual says Ni-MH will last 3-6 min depending on the type of flight. Thanks in advance. Chris p.s. I can give you a link to my heli package if that helps.

Qualities of a good LiPo Charger ?
Can you list the qualities with a dash up front for distinction of qualities ? Much obliged. Background info I bot a spare LiPo (1300 mAh, 7.4V) battery, but did'nt know I need a separate charger - Newbie me! My Heli came with a Ni-MH ('33AAA'?) 650mAh ('P'?) 9.6V 8-cell battery and a charger that says "AC/DC ADAPTOR" INPUT: AC120V 60Hz OUTPUT: DC 15V 300mA POLARITY: + - There is a long label on the battery for not charging unattended and to disconnect, if it gets hot. Boy oh boy -- Heli kits need to be approached very very carefully. The heli's been sitting in the box for over a month now, just for me to get my bearings and to know what I am doing, and to get some flight sim experience.

RE: walkera 22D
Thanks raz54. That makes me feel alot better. I'm so scared of flying for the first time & ending up immediately with a repairable item that i vowed to do due diligence on a simulator. Maybe that's a good thing. I have the second 22d heli reserved for my brother-in-law. So, I'm happy to hear the 22d is not a total flop. Possibly you also have good experience already, or done your sim time.

RE: Red Bull Heli Pilot Video on youtube
Spectacular ..... to say the least. How to fly and how not to fly (crashes, and perhaps remind yourself that the real thing could be a flying coffin at any time) My favourite clip (I'm a newb with no feeling for steering a heli and with no feeling for the fine craft of acrobatics so I get bored by acrobatics) is the clip you find when you search that webpage for the word "semi", and then advance yourself to the second such "semi". The scene there shows a BO-105 skimming along a stretch of forest floor within inches off the ground and wind itself thru a many km long stretch of forest opening at breathtaking speeds. The pilot must know that stretch inside out, and I imagine it must be a privately owned stretch of forest, to be able to clear that stretch from deer and humans that could otherwise show up unexpected for the pilot. Quite the site. Another favourite clip that shows neat flying is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMQgt5YiD0w By the way, the Red Bull videos are beautiful. Very smooth flying. You can find them when you hit the original link in the previous post and then search the webpage for the keyword "red bull" And ..... >> Use your very best headphones << My best headphones are SONY MDR-V600 (bought on ebay for ~ $US80 -- It's worth the trouble of getting them headphones)

RE: walkera 22D
I talked to some pro-look-alike flyer who did alot of stunts. When he heard I bought a couple of 22d's (the more you buy the more you save type of buy) he said: "The 22d is hard to fly for a beginner. It tips forward real easy. Better to use a heli with 3 rotors, and you are up and away in 10 minutes". But since I would rather do alot of sim-work than fly the real thing in a hurry and crash it sooner than later: I don't mind if it is harder to begin with. Or maybe I will get the heli with 3 rotors for starters. So long.

It can not be found on utube. Save your effort. You should give us the actual link, man!!!!!!!!! It's been a waste of time looking for 'red bull helicopter' on utube. All links end up at 'ebay'. LOL.

I am still ticked off that Trend-times advertises a "DragonFire" and then sends me a Walkera 22d, and nowhere on the box is the word "DragonFire" chris

DragonFire vs Walkera 22d WITH tail rotor
Hi I pre-paid at "Trend-Times" for rc rtf DragonFire helicopter (advertised to be) >>without<< tail rotor and received from them rc rtf Walkera 22d >>with<< tail rotor. (the tail rotor is driven by the same axle as the main rotor) Q1. Should I feel cheated ?? Q2. Are there any rc rtf (ready to fly) hc's indeed without tail rotor ?? I am a newbe and in slight agony. Even the invoice says "No tail rotor" Sincerely, chris
