RE: Question about engine location
That engine will work just fine with the tank slightly above the engine. It would likely work without the pump too.

RE: Pitts or Ultimate
If you want an Ultimate, look at the World Models .40 size. It is a great flying airplane, all usable hardware, good support from the distributor, etc. www.airborne-models.com While the covering scheme may be similar, it is not the same plane as sold by Nitro Planes.

There is a suggestion form at www.greatplanes.com. I'm sure if enough people fill it out they will take notice. Unfortunately people saying they are interested in something and actually buying it can be two different things sometimes.

RE: Great Planes Sequence F3A gas conversion
If the Sequence is anything like their other XLC series airplanes (Edge and Cap) then it is built very light. They are incredibly strong for their light weight but I still think some reinforcement will be mandatory. They are designed to be rigid and tough but not necessarily to stand up to a vibrating engine.

RE: Truck Bed Rack, 2-Planes ??
I've built one that carries two planes in my open bed. Basically just a frame that cradles the fuselages with deep vertical slots for the wings on the side. I've seen plenty of guys who do them with camper shells too. I would just buy a bunch of PVC pipe, elbows, tees and other pieces and come up with a configuration that works well with the planes you want to transport. Use pipe insulation around the PVC for padding. Bungee chords and small sand bags are great for holding planes secure too. I've even seen a couple plane racks built so that they slid out the back of the truck sort of like a giant drawer for easy access.

RE: 55AX quits
Both of mine have been flawless right from the first start but I did notice a couple things when adjusting the carb. The high speed needle seems to have a fairly broad range where RPM doesn't seem to change much. With most other engines you find peak RPM and it will change within a couple clicks either direction. With my .55's and my .75 it seems like you can turn the high speed needle quite a bit either way with no detectable change. This makes it very easy to get too lean or too rich. I also found the low speed to be way too rich out of the box and had to lean it quite a bit on both engines. I'd also look at your fuel. I had a 4-stroke once that I just couldn't seem to get right. Used fuel from a new jug one day and all the problems went away. I must have left the other one open too long on a damp day or something.

RE: Any decent .46 size Biplanes?
I used a .46-AX on mine. It was way more power than needed but that's not necessarily a bad thing.[:D] If I were to do another one I think I would install a .52-.56 4-stroke.

Yep, the WM Ulimate is a great small bipe. I wish I still had mine. Don't be fooled by the covering scheme; it is not the same Ultimate as sold by Nitro Planes although similar.

RE: Edge 540
Keep it conservative at first. A lot of guys who fly this type of airplane like huge control throws and a rearward CG for ultimate maneuverability. Resist that temptation at first. Keep it tame and take it slow and you might just be OK.

RE: Revolver or Pulse for 2nd plane
I say go for the Pulse. while I haven't flown the new Revolver .60 yet, I am very familiar with the Revolver .46. The Revolver is an outstanding flying airplane but it can be very fast and very maneuverable. It doesn't slow down as easily as other planes either making landings a little more tricky. I'd save the Revolver for after you've mastered the 4-Star and/or Pulse. You'll appreciate more then and have more fun with it.

RE: Edge 540
Personally I would avoid the Edge given your limited experience. This type of airplane maneuvers very quickly and can get you into trouble in a big hurry. Even with low control throws and a forward CG, it still isn't the best idea. Do some sort of low wing sport plane first. After that, move onto something like the Edge.

RE: Need advice on unsticking an OS 120 nonsurpas engine
Sounds like maybe the valves are stuck in the open position. Spray penetrating oil inside the springs so it gets on the valve stem and runs down to the guides. Sometimes raw fuel works too if it is castor gum causing the sticking. Also be careful if it turns out that the rocker arms themselves are stuck on the shaft since you could inadvertently bend a pushrod by turning the engine over like that. These guys handle OS engine service in the US: http://www.hobbyservices.com/

RE: Saito FA-72 + GP Revolver 0.46 - 0.70
The only drawback to using a 4-stroke in this plane is the spinner to cowl space. The 4-stroke will likely stick out further than a 2-stroke engine and the way the cowl is set up you can't really slide it forward to compensate. It'll just be a little larger gap though, not the end of the world. That's with an OS 4-stroke too, you might get lucky and not have the same issue with the Saito. As far as flying goes however the .72 will work fine. People seem to think this plane needs to be overpowered for some reason but I disagree. I have a .55 2-stroke in mine and I've seen plenty flying with .46 2-strokes and they work great. Your engine should do well.

RE: whats my flying style??
I second the GP Extra for several reasons... - If you are conservative with it at first it will be a good next step from your current plane. It is a scale aerobatic plane but it's fairly forgiving compared to some others. - With low control throws and forward CG it will make a great sport airplane. - Crank up the throws and move the CG back and it will be extremely aerobatic. - It will do a little of everything... sport, precision, 3D - It will work excellent with the engine you have - It looks outstanding You mentioned the Revolver. It is another excellent airplane but it has a pretty slippery shape and doesn't like to slow down sometimes. That could be annoying based on your limited runway approach.

RE: 2-56 vs 4-40
Many .60 size ARF's use 2-56 and I've never had a problem with it. I stick with the 4-40 or something else substantial above that though. I think it also depends on the length, type of airplane, how well the rod is supported and other factors too, not a definite rule.

RE: Tower Hobbies
Tower hobbies has been getting my orders out quickly as usual but the US Postal Service is starting to stink. It took over a week to get some hinges that were shipped priority mail. Granted, there was a holiday in there but it used to never take more than 2 days. Plus it came from their Reno, NV warehouse which is only about a 5-1/2 hour drive from here. Also waiting a week now for some engines I bought here on RCU from a member in southern California, maybe 3.5-4 hours away. I'm sure the guy shipped them as he said he did but the post office is taking forever. I don't get how the post office does things. When Tower ships me something by UPS It goes from Reno, NV to Sacramento, Ca to Fresno, CA to my door. Basically they send it right down the freeway on the shortest route possible and I usally have the package the next evening after I order. With the post office though, when they do manage to provide tracking information, the stuff seem to travel all over the western US over several days. It makes absolutely no sense at all. Leave to the government... I think I will stick with UPS and Fedex on everything from now on whenever possible. They generally deliver in the time that they say they will and the tracking information is almost always available and up to date. I cannot say that for the US Postal Service.

RE: Topflight P-40E Warhawk Thoughts
In addition to not being the best second airplane to fly, it probably isn't the best first kit to build either. I'd look at something like a Great Planes Rapture, Sig 4-Star, Goldberg Tiger and stuff like that. You'll get building and flying experience at the same time. Plus you don't have to do some colorful covering scheme on them; you can do them up in military colors and markings. Maybe even practice detailing , weathering and stuff like that.

RE: redundant receiver batteries, question
No soldering or anything else necessary. Just plug the second switch from the second battery into any unused channel on the receiver. If you don't have any unused channels just use a Y-chord on one of them and connect the second switch to that. The only requirement is that the batteries be the same voltage. You basically end up with a parallel circuit so the voltage remains the same and mAh capacity is increased. You also lower total circuit resistance too. Unfortunately charging them at the same time with a dual output charger doesn't always work because the negative wires are still tied together with the switches off in most cases. Not a big deal though, I just charge one battery through one charger output and the transmitter, glow igniter, ignition battery, etc. with the other. Then I switch and do the other battery when the first is done. I run dual batteries & switches like this all the time. I do it with my Spektrum receivers and I've done it with Futaba.

It sounds great. Kind of pops at idle like a little Harley Davidson engine or something. Full throttle sounds great too. It isn't that much louder than with the muffler to be honest. Maybe a little more raspy but not extremely loud.
