RE: HPI Trophy Truggy 4.6 or Robitronic Mantis
ORIGINAL: Foxy The Mantis by a long way. If you see a 4.6 trophy truggy coming, run in the opposite direction, it's a terrible car.
They are not that bad. Friend has one and altho they are a cheapened version of the Lightning 2 Truggy he's happy with it. No breakages and it handles well, the stock engine is average tho. Never seen a Mantis race, never seen a Mantis full stop.

Hyper .28 opinions?
Seen a few Hobao Hyper .28 3 port engines on special lately and I need a new truggy engine. Are they ok? Heard they are a good upgrade to the notsogood Macstar .28. Any help welcome:)

How to get this thing working
I bought a SH .21 engine for my car, (this type) idiot me did not check the crank and to my displeasure found it to be the older OS type of shaft. Now the clutch nut fits but as its to short the clutchbell does not go on. I bought 2 clutchnuts with a thread extender/adapter on them from the LHS (neither had the size advertised so I bought both) yet both don't fit (they are to narrow). Then someone else told me you cannot get extenders in that threads size. I'm totally confused, never had this problem, tempted to throw this perfectly good engine in the bin and just buy a SG shaft engine... Any help welcome.

RE: can someone please help me with buggy selection (Want to order asap)
Those buggies are pretty ancient, just for bashing it would be alright but they are not the easiest to work on. I'd hunt around and try and get a Hyper 7, usually there are some on ebay and they just released a new version. Better handling and stronger than the TT.

RE: looking to get into 1/8 scale
Hobao have just released a new Hyper 7. No more e-clips, sealed battery box, new body, proper servos and many smaller updates. Well worth looking at. (get the Asian/European edition if you can, comes with the new 3 port .21, much better than that crappy Macstar .28)

RE: My experience (so far) with the King Motor Baja 5b.
Had my KM for over a year and altho it doesn't get that much use its never let me down. Raced it a few months ago at the local large scale club, qualified for the B main and I won all the races that day:) Beating buggies that cost 3x as much. Only thing I've busted are the pull starter (not really the cars fault).

RE: King Motors Baja Review with pictures
ORIGINAL: pawraith I bought a KM about a month ago and so far have had to replace the entire front suspension, both servos, radio box since every 1/5 servo was too big in the KM box, and I have added hydraulic front brakes since the tranny brake is crap. The KM cannot take hardly any abuse. My RC10B4 is more durable than the KM. As I go through this car breaking stuff, I am replacing with HPI parts or better aftermarket stuff.
Sounds like you're having a bad run. Bashed mine 6-7 times now and its only buggered a spur gear, no other issues.

RE: King Motors Baja Review with pictures
My 3.0 has a issue. The stock spur gear was starting to wear so I replaced it with a HPI spur gear, it lasted 5 minutes... It was a snug fit but had some play in the mesh. See the pic.. So I went back to a stock KM spur, the same size as the original, but it won't fit, I can get it in but its very tight and I'm sure it would only last 2 seconds:( I've tried taking the engine nuts out and moving the engine but unlike nitro cars there seems to be zero movement for mesh alignment. Everything appears to be in the right place. Any tips?

Can you turn the clutch wheel with your hands/pliers? Could be a few minor things or it could have broken the rod.

Hyper 7.5?
Whats a Hyper 7.5? Was giving my Baja a run at the local BMX track and this guy was running one. I asked where he got it and he said he ordered it from Europe. It was Hobao and looked like a Hyper 7 but had thicker shocks. Anyone have any info on them? Nothing on Hobaos website about them. Just curious..

RE: OFNA Buggys
2.4ghz radios can be bought for less than $40, that should not be a issue in a buggy. The X1x will be a bit quicker on the turns and more nimble than the Hyper 7 but not as strong.

Just remember Ofna don't make anything. I'd get a Hyper 7 out of all those buggies, its made by Hobao and they are a excellent buggy company. The LX's are just antique HongNors.

RE: Redcat Racing Rampage MT V3- Let's review UPDATE: 2/24/11...gone...
ORIGINAL: Dale Gribble What a comedy of errors this truck is for me... So, I was participating in a professional COW RC video shoot today with helicopter cams, professional photographers, the whole shabang. There was about 50 people there. I had my HPI 5B, HPI 5T and Rampage. I planned on running each one in a cycle to get each one in the video. So, after about 10 minutes of easy run time, the Rampage begins to rev but not move at the very beginning of a scene shoot!!! whaaaaa??? Upon close inspection, the Rampage failed me again... AGAIN!!! Nothing broke, but the main transmission idler gear set nut came loose after securing with thread lock AND using the nyloc nut. Really? Are you kidding me? Really? After this mishap, I literally ran the HPI 5B & 5T in cycles for 3 hours STRAIGHT with 0 issues. It wasn't until we ran a massive launch ramp that I broke a few rod ends from the rear shocks of both HPI Bajas. People just walked buy and talked to me about the Rampage. They just laughed at the amount of problems this platform has given me and what a contrast it was to see that break and see the abuse the HPI Bajas took. So, I have my second HPI Baja now which I should have bought in the first place. The Rampage is getting cleaned up and sold. I am 100% done with it and I can't recommend the Redcat Rampage to anyone.
Sucks you are having problems man, but I just find it amusing when hpi Baja owners have to consistently point out they have the HPI version, just the amount of times you mention it makes me chuckle. Redcat really just make ebay stuff that are designed for carparks and backyards, I wouldn't ever take a redcat product to a racetrack of any type.

RE: King Motors Baja Review with pictures
I use the RD Logics pipe, much quieter than the awful sounding SS pipe and a lot lot quieter than the ear damaging dominator pipe. Failsafes are bad insurance on a 1/5th, a guy I know had a HPI 5T, he thought his spektrum failsafe with a return spring was good enough, but when it had a rolling stack that somehow disconnected the battery, off it went full power into a parked rock, luckily it was a glancing crash that only busted the left arm and bumper and stalled it. Nothing worse than a out of control 1/5th... when they take off preserving the car should be your last concern... Failsafes are good only for interference, low battery or radio failure.

RE: King Motors Baja Review with pictures
ORIGINAL: trhccd Finially received my KM 2.0 from Heat Hobby. First one was lost in shipping and it took a while to get the second one shipped. Upon recieving it I disassembled  the entire buggy including the engine. I found everything assembled correctly, nothing was loose or missing. I did change the grease in the transmission, it felt gritty, shimmed the steering arms and replaced the shock oil. I replaced the bearings, seals and gaskets in the motor on the advice of people here on the form. Added a killerbee failsafe and replace the radio. The radio that came with it is 3 channel so it would support a Killerbee failsafe and may have worked great, I will never know. Filled tank with gas and it started on the second pull. Ran 3 1/2 tanks through it today, never touched the carb. It is a little rich, will adjust later. Only problems were broken pullstarter( not my fault) and a blown tire(my fault). This thing is a blast, Can't wait for new parts to arrive so I can bash some more. I would reccomend the KM brand. Very good value for the money
They are great, I didn't go so hard on mine rebuild wise, I just installed a picco kill switch (a total must on these things), loctited all the engine and chassis nuts (not really needed, some were done up ridiculously tight). Got rid of that awful SS pipe, replaced it with the RD Logics system. Amusing how much money you can throw at these things... I bought the 3.0 version to avoid upgrades yet I still bought. -tinted windows -shock socks -outwears -Picco switch -new exhaust -proline body (stock one cracks easily) -alloy back rails -billet fuel cap and starter handle +more 3 tanks through it, no big crashes, lots of flips and roll overs, leaned it a bit, nothing has broken (yet), except the pull starter...

RE: hpi baja 5t questions
ORIGINAL: Lars from Norway
ORIGINAL: TUNDRFAN01 okay thanks so would it be a good investment to upgrade to alumiun a arms on the front of the baja 5t thanks zach.
No. Use stock or RPM plastic arms, these will flex but aluminium won't, so a crash with plastic arms will be fine, but the same crash with aluminium arms will maybe make them bend and make them useless. Sounds annoying, right? Using plastic arms will also make a ''weak'' point if you have a bad crash, but aluminium will move the impact force to the next weak link which is in the chassi or somewhere near it, making the crash more expensive and also making the repairs more comprehensive as you have to remove more parts.
True, if you going to bling it will alloy you should do the whole thing, not just the wear-tear bits.

RE: hpi baja 5t questions
My mate has one and its fairly strong (almost stock). Not as strong as its buggy brother but strong enough. The only weak point is the bodies seem to crack and break a lot easier and they are expensive. The front arms are the parts that seem to take the most breaks but they are cheap.

RE: King Motors Baja Review with pictures
ORIGINAL: Zonk
ORIGINAL: tonystott Have you tried the reverse switch on the 3rd channel?
That may work but as you said its engaging, the lights going off so reversing it probably won't do much, try it anyway. It might just be a lemon. My 1/8 had a defective failsafe years ago, spent ages trying to get it to work, gave up and returned it, the replacement worked straight away. Are you using the newer 2.0/3.0 2.4ghz radio? This type? http://www.uaebaja.com/shop/km-baja-parts-radio-gear-servo-s-c-44_78/new-2-4g-radio-type-2-p-303 orr the older version? http://www.uaebaja.com/shop/km-baja-parts-radio-gear-servo-s-c-44_78/new-2-4g-radio-p-244
The first type, the Ko Propo thingy clone. I'm sure its receiver related, I spent another 2 hours pulling the entire assembly apart and double checking the wiring, all appears to be good.
