RE: I'd Like to propose an addendum to the safety code
Rules are already set in place. What is needed is more enforcement of the existing rules from CDs at events. A good example is what Lewis does at KY Jets. At the beginning of each day there is a pilots meeting to remind all of the pilots of the rules. And then he actually enforces those rules with warnings if needed. I've seen this work and it works well. Making another rule isn't going to change a thing unless it's enforced in the first place. What makes anyone think that placing more rules on the books is going to change anything if the original rules aren't enforced? The only way to do this is for all to expect to be called out when breaking the rules and for those who are charged to enforce them to do their jobs. I see no benefit from creating more rules.
+10!

RE: I'd Like to propose an addendum to the safety code
There are so many variables involved in fitting out and flying jets safely that it will always be very difficult to legislate appropriately to cover all possibilities. The value of appropriate human judgement then comes to the fore. None of us want to be over-regulated but by the same token, the "cowboy element" exists everywhere and those people whose ego dominates their decision making/ judgement need to be reeled in. The problem with those sort of people is that they exhibit a lack of self-discipline and their selfish behaviour potentially endangers our hobby. There are areas in Australia where jet flying has now been banned at certain times of year. Overzealous bureaucrats don't need much justification to shut things down and the cowboy element don't seem to get that. The solution exists at club level. You must have the right people in the safety officer role.....those that are educated enough to make a call on what is appropriate and what is not and that means they need to have a grasp on both the building/ flying side of things but also the legal ramifications of the risks at hand. Furthermore, they need a pair of bollocks to be able to put their foot down if necessary AND most importantly, they need the unwavering backup of the club executive in the event that a club member needs to be pulled into line. Our club is suffering from a lack of the latter atm; a lack of leadership as mentioned above and I fear the consequences. You have to really sit back and ask what the hell is going on when a guy doing a 3D routine with his jet flies into the ground and then continues on doing his routine!!! Like I said.....his ego is making decisions and that is never a good thing. The leadership should have tapped him on the shoulder and told him to land immediately until the airframe was checked for damage. It is up to the clubs to cultivate the appropriate safety culture according to the intent of bodies like the AMA and in our case the MAAA. The heroes amongst us need to be reminded from a personal perspective they are flying toy aeroplanes (so they need to calm down and define themselves in more significant ways) but from a legal/ safety perspective they are flying models that could easily kill a person. If you can't conduct yourself appropriately you should be told to pack up and go home so the rest of us are able to continue to fly safely and enjoy our great hobby. Period.

I think you are looking for an excuse to buy another F16 Tor! [:D] Go for it man....life is too short! BTW, how do you find the new version of the gear? I have only the old version in my F16 and it was a pain to set up properly. I would be interested to know what you think of the new G2 kit.

Mine is at 200-225. I don't like nose heavy aircraft, particularly the F16 as they tend to tuck under in high G turns and that gets really ugly very quickly. you would not be too far off the mark with 215 depending on your preferred setup. I think Tor runs his at 225.

RE: s/m 1/6 f16 in my hot little hands!
I fly off a bitumen runway 9m x 130m. My landing setup is as follows...Jetcat P180, 6.5L of fuel using all three tanks, older landing gear version (wish I had the new one).... I use about 10mm of flap...cambers the wing up allowing the jet to fly more slowly and with more stability at slow speed. It really allows you to slow the jet up more for approach on a short runway and effectively generates washout on the wing. I make sure I have the nose high....not so high it drops out of the sky because as Tor said it really slows up quickly if you pull the nose up, but I certainly don't bring it in flat......it will simply be flying too fast for that as we only have 130m to play with. I watch a lot of videos of the F16's landing and many are on full size runways. Often the guys are using 2-300m to land the thing. I have never run off the end of my runway with this setup. I do use brakes on down elevator, but I have a mix that moves the flaperons to full up deflection that kicks in at about 80% down elevator/braking. This totally dumps the lift generated by the wing and really plants the jet on the main wheels, making the brakes more effective. I have this set up on all 3 F16's that I have and it really pulls them up fast. Some might suggest that this setup is risky, but I only have it on flight mode 2 (landing config), and if I am ever having to use full down elevator on approach, something has gone seriously wrong well before that! Anyway, each to his own.....I know this works well for me........this landing had the nose a lot lower than I normally have it but you will see her stop nicely anyway.....and this was with NO headwind to help slow her down...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=74_zykVyvyc

RE: Futaba GYA351 setup help?
Hi mjunior, I must confess I did miss that as I have never used the 352 in elevon mode.....could not see the point in having a dual axis gyro for just one axis so I had overlooked that feature of the 352. Thanks for pointing that out.

RE: Futaba GYA351 setup help?
The 352 has the elevon mixer built in. The 351 does not.
Incorrect...you have it the wrong way around. It is the 351 that has the elevon/ flaperon dual channel capability. The 352 is a dual axis (hence the 2 in the last digit position) but single channel gyro that does not have elevon mixing in it. I have several of both operating in jets atm.

RE: Futaba GYA351 setup help?
ORIGINAL: mjunior Can the GYA351 be installed in a delta aircraft operation with elevons? Regards.
Yes is the answer. The 351 is a single axis, dual channel gyro which is exactly what you need if you are running elevons, flaperons etc. The gyro does not know or care if it is connected to flaperons or elevons.....the mixing within the gyro is the same. The only difference is that, when you are suing elevons, you plug one of the available channels into the elevator channel rather than the flap channel. The gyro does not care which channel the signal is coming from, whether it be the flap channel or the elevator channel....function is the same within the gyro. I have 4 of the 351's installed in jets mostly on flaperons but also an act fuzzy pro (which is functionally almost the same as the 351) installed on the tailerons of my avonds F15....all working well.

Which large hawk?
Hi guys, I am thinking about getting a large hawk (around 1/4.5- 1/4.75 scale) and have been looking at the skymaster one and the hawk from fly eagle. Can anyone provide some comparative feedback? I am interested in comparisons on the gear, construction including paint quality, presence in the air, hinging and fuel systems, and of course flight performance. Thanks in advance. Craig.

How many of you guys have replaced the live hinging on the ailerons with more scale hinge mechanics? I am not going to leave the live hinging on mine.....does not belong on a model of that caliber IMO.

RE: CARF Flash pricing
The argument that I had heard relating to the higher price in Australia related to the exchange rate, back when our dollar was low in relation to the USD. I has not been that way for a long time now. Funny how a website can be updated easily and regularly except for the pricing section........

Yeah, it's not like they can use the exchange rate as an excuse either....going by that it should be 5% cheaper than in the US, not $300 more! So CARF, there's about 10 grand that you have missed out on that we are hanging on to until we see some fairness here. Hopefully common sense will prevail. RE: C-ARF Ultra Flash build Thread + Video
I have never used crow on either of my flashes (classic and ultra).....the classic has always slowed down well using elevator trim to get the nose high and the flaps/spoilers generate plenty of drag. I can't understand why anyone would find the classic difficult to land, but I did reduce the flap from the recommended setting to get it less throttle dependent.

No probs Harry, just different ways of accomplishing the same thing. Either way you need to run some sort of stick fade as you have pointed out and in some cases the mixing method you have described is the only way of doing it. Craig.
