RE: Peak Model 50 CC Edge 540 T build
It looks great man but are you using plastic gear servos ? I would strongly caution you here, this plane will easily strip those gears in flight. Its a 100% no questions asked guaranteed way to crash very very soon. Please please upgrade to Metal gear servos if you dont its gonna cost you the plane, I guarantee it. Sorry to be a downer, just trying to help out. If your looking for good metal gear

RE: Peak Model 50 CC Edge 540 T build
Okay here are some pics of my repair, all I need to do is put the back of the tunnel on and cover over the new sheeting I put on the fuse. I made the tank floor removable for easier repairs in the future.

RE: Servos for WildHare Edge 540T 73
I have the 73" Baby Extra and I have the JR DS821 servos for the elevator and ailerons and a JR 8611a for the rudder. I don't fly much 3D but the system seems very strong and responsive on 6 volts.

RE: Peak Model 50 CC Edge 540 T build
As far as current draw your idle current should be 0.00 to 0.05 amps / servo , your full deflection draw should be about 0.6 amps / servo. Stalled out your servos will prob draw at max 1.5 amp each which would be over the top beyond worst case scenario. For routine flying your whole system will draw about 3 amp MAX, with very high speed extreme maneuvers you may have a spike up to 7 amps but it would only be for a split second if that. A123's are great batteries but there "high amp output" is largely wasted on most set ups b/u planes simply dont pull 10 - 20 amps on a regular basis. If a modelers set up is pulling high amps on a regular basis then they set it up wrong for sure. If your Rx is any good it should be able to crank out 20 amp peaks w/o a problem. If you want to use 1 switch you can use a Fromeco Wolverine switch, it is 2 switches in 1 and has a battery share circuit in it, it is what I use. http://www.fromeco.org/products/04frcwo-434s/default.aspx T3 I have the parts for the LG rebuild cut out and done I just need to get gluing !

RE: Peak Model 50 CC Edge 540 T build
Dude you really dont need a power box in this plane. A standard receiver is more than capable of delivering the Amps that a 50cc will draw w/o a power distribution system even w/ every servo @ stall torque. If you want to use the powerbox you will need to put a tray in for it. I would not glue the tray in until you get an idea on where you CG is. This plane tends to come in tail heavy so most things will have 2 be stuffed in the front. As far as the pilot I guess he will sit wherever you build a mount for him [;)]

RE: Peak Model 50 CC Edge 540 T build
Here you go, Rotate it in the direction of the red arrow, The allen key goes through the slot the servo arm exits ( yellow arrow ) grip the bolt w/ your pliers through the big open area the servo sits in, blue arrow.

RE: Peak Model 50 CC Edge 540 T build
I get a long allen key and a pair of fine tip needle nose pliers. I rotate the arm so the head of the bolt is facing up ( towards the slot the arm exits the stab from) I stick the allen wrench into it, then I grab the bolt with a pair of pliers to hold it steady, finally I torque the screw down. To do this you need to press the servo arm onto the output spline with the retainer bolt / nut already in place w/ loctite on it but loose. Also this is all done w/o the stabs mounted onto the fuse your pliers goes through the large hole you used to put the servo into the stab half, grab the bolt that way.

Since I screwed the canopy on I put some hard ply backers there for the screws to bite into b/c that area is only soft balsa.

RE: NEW!! GW 50cc YAK-55sp quick build!!
Vess - A props = light load on motor, use if your plane is overweight it will produce the most power Vess - B Props = Normal load for the motor . slightly less power but less noise to Vess - C Props = Most load is your plane is way over powered of your motor is very loud I have a 23A on a DA 50, its very powerful but also very very loud. B/c My plane is light for my next prop I am going to use a 23B http://www.vessaero.com/ >>> Vess Will Ship International !!! <<<

Thats a real good idea on doing the smoke. If you attach that hose directly to a nipple of the muffler it will eventually melt. Nice work !

RE: Peak Model 50 CC Edge 540 T build
Yeah I have seen that video but I guarantee you that your clunk can get stuck forward.

RE: Peak Model 50 CC Edge 540 T build
The brass part keeps the clunk from getting stuck forward during maneuvers which can cause your motor to quit. I recommend putting a brass piece in there. Also you can break your motor in on the ground, thats fine but remember stuff changes in flight. For the first few flights stay high in case you get a dead stick. The best way to check for a lean or overheating motor is to do a very long up line at full throttle. If the RPM fade off or the motor quits you need to richen up the high speed needle. Be careful on the first few flight w/ a new motor, it can quit !!!!!

RE: Peak Model 50 CC Edge 540 T build
Put some gas in the tank and let it sit overnight This will soften the tygon up and by morning the clunk will be flopping all over the tank. New tygon is stiff.

Great camera work TJ the power is just crazy: much much better than w/ my extreme flight DA - 50 on a stock side dump muffler with a Vess 23A RPM - 7445, Fish scale pull 32 lbs !!!!! thats basically a 2:1 thrust to weight ratio..... NUTZ !!

RE: Peak Model 50 CC Edge 540 T build
Egan, how many inches behind the leading edge of the wing is your airplane balancing ? After I removed the white rose tail wheel I was using mine balanced at 5.25 inch. I could get it to 4.8 inch if I reposition a bunch of stuff. Also I scrapped my Zeus to, that thing is a POS !
