RE: Stupid flying put plane in tree
I crashed a Spacewalker in a river once. A boat came by and picked it out of the water for me. I let the reciever dry out along with all the other components, and they worked just fine, until I traded it off almost two years later.

RE: Stupid flying put plane in tree
Climb the tree, or find a kid that will do it. As far as the fishing pole, tie a tennis ball at the end of the line, it will be easier to hit the plane with, and not get tangled in the tree as easy as a sinker.

RE: Hobbico Fuel Pump
I ended up mounting mine on an inverted 45. That way I only have about 3 inches of tubing to the jug. I just wanted to make sure I will not damage the seals so it would not prime in an odd position. Thanks

Wing Bolts
I have a Flip 3d that I am getting ready to test fly. I bought it already assembled. On the way home, the metal wing bolts vibrated loose just riding in the back of my truck. I did not have the wing in, just the bolts through the blind nuts. I know with the wing on, it would stop some of the rotation in the bolts, but would I be better off with nylon bolts instead of metal? I am not worried about them shearing off, because its a 3d plane and would be a wreck way beyond repair before the nylon sheared. I just wonder what would hold the wing on best.

RE: Good Deal If Any One Needs A Flight Box
That is a nice looking box. I am going to try something a little different. My wife brought home some indoor poly, it does not say its polycrillic, but I figure it is. I coated it with that, and now I am getting ready to go over it with 220, and tomorrow I will get some oil base and cover it. I hope that will give the oil base a little brighter and smoother finish as it ages and turns yellow.

Hobbico Fuel Pump
Does it need to be mounted level, or can I mount it on a 45 degree or 90 degree angle on my field box without it leaking or having priming problems?

RE: Good Deal If Any One Needs A Flight Box
The GP field box, is cut exactly for the Hobbico II power panel. On my first one, I used a tower power panel and had to cut it for that one to fit, but not the second one with the Hobbico panel. It just depends on brand. Its better to have a smaller hole, than one thats too big.

RE: Good Deal If Any One Needs A Flight Box
I think I am going to just hit it with a little 220 grit, and give it a shot of polyurathane and it will be to go. I wonder if that will hold up to glow fuel?

Good Deal If Any One Needs A Flight Box
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXSVF0&P=ML I just got one of these, and for the price you can't beat it. Its not quite as big as the Great Planes Box I had, but that is 49.99 compared to 14.99. The constuction is pretty good on the Lanier box. On thing I did notice, you will have to cut the hole bigger in the lid if the power pannel if you are going to use a Hobbico II power pannel. The power pannel cover is the only down side to this box I have seen. It is a little thin, and could break easy if you are not carefull with it. I was suprised the drawers were not flimsy either. They might be a little better built than the GP model I had. Overall I would say a definate buy.

RE: My son's first set-up, look okay?
I just had to laugh at myself. Up until a few months ago, everyone debated about the airfoil that a trainer had. Semi semi semetrical versus flat bottom, example Avistar vs a PT 40 design. Now its what radio or engine is included, instead of all the horror storys of buying this plane or that one. I guess thats a testament on how far ARF's and RTF's and other gear have come in just the last 5 years.

RE: My son's first set-up, look okay?
Retractable gear is what the 5th channel is for. Usually when you get to the point you need flaps, then you are ready for something like a 9C radio. The best thing about a computer radio besides model memory is digital trims. That was the greatest thing in the world when I went from my 6x up to a 9c. If money permits, I would at least try and find the a computer radio, it will make life much easier, but it is not required. With the AA issue, I would make sure to check them before each flight. 4AA's make for a 6.0 volt battery pack. This gets rid of the servo rebooting problem with the DX systems, and I am sure it cuts a lot of cost out of such a cheap RTF plane with good equipment. I think I would opt for adding a $20.00 rechargable battery.

RE: My son's first set-up, look okay?
Look at the right hand side, its says its available. And you can search to find shops that have them, or at least order them. I have not been flying for two years, and I am just getting back. I stopped by my local shop yesterday, and they are all but out of bussiness. No stock at all. They can still order most of what I need, but they did not have anything on the shelf. So I dont know if other shops have them or not.

You might also want to look at this setup. Most shops are selling them for 299.00. Acording to H9 its available now. http://www.hangar-9.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdId=HAN4400

RE: parts for h9 super cub
Since it was discontinued, you might keep an eye in the classified section and pick a new plane cheap, and use that wing and have spare parts. You might call horizon, and see if they have any extras also. Your best bet woud be to uncover the good wing and make a template, and build a second wing and recover both. If you cant do that, if you have a club, you might check with people there, there might be a builder there.

RE: Kyosho Flip Cowl ?
Thanks for the link. Are the CG listed in the manual correct? And the listed throws, are those the minimum throws? I assume max is as far as they will go. I cant wait to get this plane in the air. It feels way more sturdy than a UCD, but quite a bit lighter, maybe a full pound or better.

Kyosho Flip Cowl ?
I just bought this plane mostly assmbled. I do not have the manual. Can someone that has mounted a 4 stroke at 90 degrees post a picture of how they mounted the cowl, or at least explain how they mounted it, without butchering the cowl. Also what is the best balance point and control throws? I have been out of flying for about 2 years, and I am excited about getting back in the air. I always had a UCD 46, but I found a deal on this plane with a Saito 72, and a DX 7 and all servos that I just could not pass up. I just need to get the cowl on, and some fuel line and a reciever, balance it, and its ready to go. What would be a good prop to go with this combo?

RE: Flying Field Airplane noise
Why not just get a couple of chain saws and run them while you are flying. This will legally raise the ambient niose and keep you from getting in trouble. Or you could get a hugh stereo or anything for that matter. You just want to raise the ambient niose enough to drown out the planes. There is nothing they can do.

Flip 3d picture request
I am trying to see if I can get someone to model a Flip 3d on Realflight. If someone has the plane and the time, could you please take a some pictures picture dead on from the front, side and top and bottom. I am unable to get my plane for about two weeks, so I can do it. Thanks.

RE: Flip 3d
Thanks for the video links. The last one was one I have not seen. It looks like it should be a fun plane. I hate starting over. This is the second time I have done it. My lhs loves it, because its all new chargers, boxes, pumps and all the little goodies. The last time I sold out and restarted, it took me a month to have 3 1/4 scale planes hanging on the wall. This should be interesting. Now I just need to get my AMA paid up, and my club dues in order, and in a month or so, when the weather gets warm enough, I can have some fun. Does anyone know how much wing loading this plane has?

Flip 3d
Hello, 2 years ago I sold out of the hobby. I have been bitten by the bug again after a friend offered me a good deal on a new Flip 3d. I get a RTF plane, Saito 72 and a Spectrum DX7 for 400.00. I was curious, I always flew a UCD 46. How does this plane compare to the other. Also what is the wing loading like? Does anyone have any video of the Flip? I hope to pick it up next week. I cant wait for some warm weather to go fly now. Can anyone also offer some gerneral input on this plane. I did a search, and most of what I read, seems like everyone likes the plane. But I would like to know how it will compare to the UCD's I had. I flew the last one with a Saito 82. Will I be disapointed in the 72? Thanks

RE: New H9 Cub??
I have not had a chance to fly since I hace repaired mine. I am hoping at 4" it would bring the tail down a little bit. I will let you know after I try.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I added 2oz to the tail with my Saito 82 to balance at 5 1/2 inches. It flys well and handles pretty good that way. I only have a few flights with it, but hopefully in a couple of weeks I can get some more time with it.

RE: biplane choice
I would also look at the GP Aeromaster Bipe. It has a wing loading of 22 oz so flying should be easy, just remember to keep the nose down for landing.

RE: H9 Cub Engine choice
I still think it would be cool to hang a Moki 135 on the front just to watch a Cub hover lol. Planes like a UCD, where you can just firewall the throttle and be off the ground in 5 feet give some pilots bad habbits when trying to fly other models like a Cub, myself included.

RE: H9 Cub Engine choice
I have an Evo 46 in my PNP 80" H9 Cub. It flys it great. It will haul it around good at 2/3 throttle. You can even do huge loops with the engine. Take off is this engnines only down fall. Its not enough to horse it into the air on a short take off. As long as you have a good 70 feet you will lift off just fine. If you get in a hurry and try to get it in the air, you will be sanding and covering for a few days, and trust me I know from experience. You cant get a new windshield until August, and the metal wing tubes are not for sale yet either. This is a great looking Cub and flys really sweet. Mine does not look so great after the tip stall, but after I get a little more practice with it, I will buy another.
