RE: Tamiya Nitrage 5.2, The Offical Thread
Hey there boy and girls. I have to part with one of my Nitrages. If anyone is interested... check it out! I love my truck, but one has got to go. [:o] It's got a ton of upgrades and is great racer or basher. http://www.rcuniverse.com/market/item.cfm?itemID=529434

RE: Orange
I've got your orange man. It's $10 for 2 oz ready to spray... it's automotive grade paint... SEM (Color Horizons). It is that paint color... not close, but a match. If you want some let me know... I can send you the paint concentrate, or Ready to Spray. You will need an airbrush to apply it.

RE: Any one paints bodies and how much?
I understand your situation. I've shipped several bodies to APO/FPO address in the last couple of years. I think it's cool that there are so many militariants into RC! Check this site out.. http://www.misterart.com/g8420/Krylon-Fusion-Spray-Paint-for-Plastic.htm It's a spray paint from a industrial manufacturer world-wide that sticks to every form of plasitc there is. Maybe there is some located near you. If that doesn't work, they do make a water base paint as well that is not flammable. That would ship to you no prob, and for $4, I'd give it shot. It's made for a more porous surfaces, but since your going with a one color scheme, sand the lexan where you will painting, rinse it out, and spray. If you give it something to hold onto, it's flexable enough it will stay. http://www.misterart.com/g4198/Krylon-H2O.htm

RE: Tamiya Nitrage 5.2, The Offical Thread
There is a case on the inside of the tranny that has four screws holding it onto one of the gears. If these come loose it will allow the beveled gears to nolonger mesh properly. One of mine had cracked, but it was because my buddy came down in the grass wide open throttle. (he's not very good at driving, to say the least) Took all of 15 minutes to change it. Get a better steering servo, and servo saver. The factory servo saver blows chunks. While you're at it, get the front brake set up, heavier shock oil and springs, and you will have one kick butt truggy!! I have two and love them both! They start right away, and are super easy to tune! You're only cheating yourself out of the potential these things have if you don't get the upgrades mentioned.

RE: Tamiya Nitrage 5.2, The Offical Thread
Hmm... I've been into nitro rc for a long time. I've always said, if you you're struggling that bad trying to start an engine, you need to take a new approach. Glow plugs, tuning, whatever... but I hate having an extra battery to worry about, when I have an arm that does the same thing. It might get tired pulling, but it recharges fast! ;) I've got a 24/7 with more than three gallons through it on one of my other RC's, and it's still running strong. As a matter of fact, I just shucked the rear diff out of that truck last weekend. I've loved that engine... three pulls at the most, a little warm up time, tiny twist of the LSN, and I'm off. I'm still in the market for the pullstart if anyone knows where to pick one up. Thanks guys Adam

RE: Tamiya Nitrage 5.2, The Offical Thread
Hey guys, I haven't posted on RCU in a LONG time. Anyway, I just bought two nitrages at a great price. One was just broke in, and the other brand new with a ton of hop up parts still in the boxes, all for $450. I'm looking to replace that starter with just a standard pull start... and ideas? Keeping track of the batteries in the tx/rx are enough... I don't want the worry of another in starter. Thanks guys. Adam

RE: Painting to make it look like Carbon Fiber
The only concern I have with the rattle can is that is urethane/lacquer based. You can spray water based paints ontop of lacquer/urethane, but not viceversa without any adverse affects. The water based paints are so easily manipulated, even after they dry. That's why I hate faskolor paints, but they work well when all you have to paint in, is your house. And you have nothing but water base paints. How did you like that cold spell that came through last night? -1, wind chill -20, I don't suppose we will be doing any painting outside today. So answering your primary question, it may or may not work... you will have to try a scrap piece somewhere. You will have to lay that silver down thick enough to be able to get your saran wrap in place before it dries, and it may eat away at the faslucent candy base that you're using. I would practice on a 2 liter bottle before you lay it down on a body. As far as your color combo with the carbon fiber, it should work. I always try a 'crash run' on a scrap piece of lexan (wheel cut out, or bottom cut out off the same body). I always cut my bodies out before I paint them. I've got pretty large hands, and its little easier to maneuver that way, plus I will have scrap pieces of lexan to play with if I'm in question with something. It depends what red and blue you're using. If they are darker spray them last and back it with white, that will help them pop out. If they're just the basic red and blue, it doesn't really matter. If it were me, using black as the dark of the two colors, I would spray that first, then the lighter red or blue second. I would back all of it with white after I was done. My $.02, hope it helps.

RE: Painting to make it look like Carbon Fiber
Yes, you can make anything look like CF, and with spray cans too... just find the right color paints, and have your shelf liner handy. N20torious, what base paints are you using? Lacquer, water base? Copper shouldn't be too hard to find... I will look for a couple of links for you.

RE: Help out a newbie!!!
It appears to be a flat orange. If you want it to "POP" (look brighter) back it with white! If you want it to look deeper, back it with black! That looks to be a very simple but great first paint job! You could pull that off with rattle cans if you wanted to. Your question about the masking. Take this stuff, [link=http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/div/div3010.htm]LINK HERE[/link], apply it on the inside of the body, and put plenty on... the more the better. I apply three heavy coats. Then draw your image on the outside of your body with a sharpie, if your body doesn't have a layer of protective film on the outside, use Rubbing alcohol to get the image off after your done painting. Use a exacto blade and lightly cut the liquid masking and pull up the desired area to paint. It doesn't bleed like masking tape can. Remember to protect your paint job after you're all done painting. I use Rustoleum Crystal Clear Enamel and put three light coats of that on to protect my paint job from nitro fuel. Hope this helps you! LMK if you any other questions!

RE: Spazstix holographic paint
Find a color that similar to your holographic pant in neutral light. That way when light hits it, you will see the holographic better. You'll probably want something metalic.

RE: Spazstix holographic paint
The flames won't be bad at all. Just remember, the thicker you put that Liquid Mask on the easier it comes off. If you apply it too thin, it's a pain to peel up those fine detail/pointed parts of your flames. Be very liberal with that stuff! If you have really fine detailed flames, put your body in the frigde after you score it all with your hobby knife. LM comes up easier when it's chilled. Remember to back your holographic flames with black, you'll like those results better. I would go dark on the rest of the body also, if your wanting a ghost look. If you want them to pop out at you do the rest of the body in a bright color, and remember to back those colors with white. I would do the flames and back those first, then do the rest of the body. Good luck, and fun! That's what it's all about!

RE: Painting to make it look like Carbon Fiber
saran wrap. Spray your candy color on first (translucent), mine was purple. Let that dry, then the second coat was faspearl silver, and while that was still wet put the saran wrap down, let it dry. (that takes a while) Then I backed it with faspearl black. Pretty simple, and looks sweet. Use different color combos to get some sweet effects. I'm going to try some neons next time around.

RE: Paint Masks...
They give them to you in links so you peel them up one by one as you paint them on. You don't want a big string of them to pull up all at once. Then your work looks as if it all runs together. You apply your darker shades to the first link (where they will overlap, and shading) then your base color of the chain. Pull the next link up and do the same, over and over until you get to the last one. Chains are time consuming but fun.

RE: IS THERE A HARD CLEARCOAT TO GO OVER DECALS?
Rust-oleum Clear Enamel I use it protect the inside from Nitro Fuel, and as long as it's applied in many light coats it sticks very well. Apply it too thick and it will flake.

RE: Painting to make it look like Carbon Fiber
Hey bud. Not bad for the first attempt. [image]http://webzoom.freewebs.com/grocker_70/CFX/Dodge%20Top.JPG[/image] Color application is the trickest. Always lay the light color on first, pull your shelf liner up, then shoot the darker color. I use faspearl silver with a few drops of black and copper in it, and faspearl charcoal as the darker color. Tune into CFX Paintworks if you have ANY questions about RC painting. I've Learned from the best!
