Watch this video and at the end you will see the downpour of rain start during the event. It basically wiped out the flying lawn mower. Notice the "Top Gun" music playing in the background...nice touch!

WARBIRDS AT THE SUMMIT
Warbirds at the Summit Is being held on Saturday August 8th at Summit County Fair Grounds in Tallmadge Ohio (near Akron Ohio). RE: ROAD TRIPS: 2009
Corsiar Jock, Akron MAPS Museum Air Show Warbirds at the Summit is modeled after the Akron MAPS museum air show. What you will find at MAPS is lots of classic WWII fighters and bombers flying for the crowd. Mixed in every few hours is a stunt plane for a little Dare Devil excitement and change of pace. They also have a significant number of classic military vehicles on display such as tank, half tracks, and jeeps. I was trying to do all of these in my show because the formula works. Flight Time Our event is run like an air show with scheduled events. Typically pilots can fly 50-minutes each hour of the day. Advertising Warbirds at the Summit is advertised each year in Akron’s largest news paper. I send press releases to the media and we often get free coverage in other publications as well. In our first year we had 47-pilots, 75-aircraft and about 500-specators. My goal is to grow this event as much as possible. I don't have an exact count on spectators but we parked over 100-cars and sold twice as much food as last year with the threat of bad weather. Yesterdays Warbird Event I'm really proud of our club. We work hard to put on a good show. The crowd stayed even after a good downpour. They wanted to stay and see more. Other than the weather both pilots and spectators had nothing but good things to say to me and made an effort to track me down to let me know. UH1-Huey Demo Here is an early photo from yesterday's event which was a great success despite the threat of scattered thunderstorms. This scale UH1-Huey Jet Turbine Helicopter demonstration was worth the price of admission alone. It was so realistic it was kind of creepy. It looked, sounded, and flew totally scale. I played "Ride of the Walkyries" from the movie Apocalypse Now over the loud speakers for the 1st 2-minutes of his flight. JET TURBINE DEMO WANTED - OHIO AUGUST 8TH
Warbirds at the Summit Is being held on Saturday August 8th at Summit County Fair Grounds in Tallmadge Ohio (near Akron Ohio). In addition to traditional warbirds, I think what makes this event unique is a Jet Turbine powered UH1-HUEY and Giant Scale radio controlled Tanks. Should be a good time. Last year we had 47-pilots, 75-aircraft, and about 500-spectators. I did more advertising this year so I am hoping that the event will grow even larger. Jet Turbine Pilot WANTED[sm=drowning.gif] Due to different circumstances as of today both of our Jet Pilots that were planning to attend are unable to perform. Our event is this coming Saturday August 8th so time is short! A military jet would be ideal but is not a requirement. Please view the video to get a feel for what our event is like. Based on the crowd reaction in the video to last years Jet Turbine demo you will have everyone pined to the fence.[X(] The pilot must be experienced and comfortable flying in front of a crowd. If you are from out of town I can provide Hotel accommodations and a good steak dinner. All of my contact information is in the Event flyer and on the event website. Thanks ahead of time! How about I scan them at 600DPI and email you the prints. You can print it out at Kinko's. I scanned this image from my Flair PT-17 plans so I could see how changing the incidence would affect the length of the cabane struts.

RE: Flair 1/4 Scale PT17/Stearman Build
This tubing is for full scale aircraft. It has a 5/32 rectangular gap. The entire length of the aluminum bar is hollow. This makes it easy to insert a steel bracket in the end and bolt it in place. The outside diameter is 1-1/8" which is close to scale for our size Stearman. I have 6-feet of it so I think I can spare some for you!

RE: Flair 1/4 Scale PT17/Stearman Build
Charsb, I have finally figured out what I'm going to do with my cabanes. I don't have the tools to do it so I am buying a mini milling machine. I was able to purchase airfoil shaped extruded aluminum stock. It's hollow on the inside. I plan to use steel straps that will fit snugly inside the struts. I will bend them at the appropriate angle and they will be permanently attached to the airframe. The cabanes will be removable by removing a large bolt which is the same as full scale. I plan to mill a slot in the extruded aluminum so that a thinned portion of the steel strut will protrude enough for me to connect flying wires. Again just like scale. You will understand when you look at the following pictures. It should turn out very similar. If you want when I'm done and if you like it I will make you a set.

If I can swing it I will get pyrotechnics for the airstrike against the Tiger Tank…no promises. I have the Patton sound track and Panzerlied ready to go when they roll onto the field!

RE: Flair 1/4 Scale PT17/Stearman Build
Charsb, My stabilizer was maybe 3 degrees...probably more like 2.5 something. The upper and lower main wings were 3.5 degrees. My Stearman tried to climb a lot when she flew. Since my stabilizer is permanently attached and can’t be changed I’m lower the incidence of the upper wing 2-degrees in relation to the lower wing as recommended by Jack. This should will reduce the amount of lift up front and give the tail more leverage which hopefully will balance things out.

WANTED: BOMBER DEMO, OHIO August 8th
Experienced Pilot and Reliable Bomber I am looking for a Bomber demo to add to our Warbirds at the Summit 2009 lineup. Ideally this would be a large scale aircraft capable of performing a candy drop for the kids as part of the event. We can also look into the possibility for pyrotechnics to add realism to a simulated bomb run. The pilot must be experienced and comfortable flying in front of crowds. The aircraft must be reliable to ensure safety. Warbirds at the Summit 2009 Last year was our first year for this event and we had 47-pilots and 75-aircraft attend. The crowd at noon was around 500-spectators. With this being our second year I am working on growing the event. We are having a Color Guard ceremony at noon identical to last year’s event. This event will be publicized same as last year to ensure good turnout. RE: Everything Radial Engines
ElectRick, I know what you are saying. I don't think I was saying that they won't be of good quality just because they are being made in India. I hope that none of us here are judging the quality of work "solely on the basis of ethnic background". I said:
The radials manufactured in India will have to prove themselves.
I stand by what I said. Porsche, Mercedes, and Seidel all have a reputation for quality that was well earned. I don't think I'm going too far by saying that German goods in general have earned an excellent reputation for quality worldwide. India has yet to prove that it can manufacture goods to the same quality standard as Germany. I don’t automatically bestow excellence on anyone because I think excellence is difficult to achieve. One thing you must admit is that developing industrial nations such as China or India have a significant portion of the population that is relatively unskilled. That is no slam that is simply reality. Typically that translates into "cheap labor". Do you think that the elite individuals you met who were given the opportunity to travel overseas are representative of all Indians? Time will tell.

RE: Everything Radial Engines
RISKY PROPOSOTION I think it's great to make radial engines more affordable but not at the sacrifice of quality. I for one would be more than happy to pay the old price for a radial built in Germany. The radials manufactured in India will have to prove themselves. If they suffer from quality issues it can ruine the Seidel reputation. CHASRB Yes I will still fly with you. RE: 1/4th Scale Flair Tiger Moth Project
NO TRAINER REQUIRED...THE TIGER MOTH IS A TRAINER Don't buy an ARF trainer because you think it will be easier to fly than the Tiger Moth. That's simply not true. The Tiger Moth will be easier to fly than any ARF trainer you can buy. IF YOU STILL WANT AN ARF BUY A TAIL DRAGGER A BIG downside of most if not all of the ARF trainers out there is that they have tricycle landing gear. That won't prepare you at all for a tail dragger. If you really want to do the ARF thing my suggestion would be to buy a Piper Cub or some similar docile tail dragger. That at least would have value when migrating to the Tiger Moth. HIGH WING...LOW WING? I don't understand the high wing low wing concern. It sounds more like you’re preparing yourself for a P-51 Mustang than a Tiger Moth. I think it's over kill. My first RC airplane was the Great Planes Tiger Moth. I learned to fly on her and I still have it 9-years later with hundreds of flights on the log book. Model Airplane News rated it as one of the Top-10 ARFs of all time and the easiest they have ever flown. BUILD A COOL TIGER MOTH Don't waste you money on all those other aircraft. Build the Tiger Moth and slap in one of these cool O.S. IL-300 engines. I am attaching a link to a YouTube video of a Flair 1/4th scale Tiger Moth with the IL-300 attached. As soon as you hear the sound of that 4-cylinder you will forget about all of those ARF trainers. The second link is of a Flair Tiger Moth landing. She just floats down so easily. You won't find an ARF that lands like that.
