RE: Sepulveda Basin
ORIGINAL: GrnBrt Sure has been a long time since I have seen the basin. I lived and went to school in Culver city and flew U/C there (couldn't afford R/C then) from 1960-63. I use to get a ride with either Paul good who owned the hobby shop I went to or Jack Stafford who belonged to the club I was a member of, 'Smog Cutters'. Sure have some fond memories, like the time at the F/F circles i almost had my head taken off by a Ramrod F/F, a favorite back then. Saw the biggest darn Cub then, 9' WS, and yes for the time that was huge!!!!!
Good Lord is this thread still here? [:D]
ORIGINAL: vicman Retracts for sure but nearly imposible with any of the ARFs I have had. I think the biggest drag on these planes is the thick wing chord. Clipping won't do too much for speed vs the thick wing.
Sup?[:D] You tellem Vicman!

RE: need some help on a decision
If you're going to try helis, start with the coaxials. Much more stable when you have absolutely no clue. I doubt it last 5 minutes before it goes to the trash. Get on a simulator first

RE: Hobby People nightmare
ORIGINAL: warbird addict I called hobby people in CA to order the BH 90'' corsair on friday afternoon the girl took my info and card # after a pause she says yep ok your card went thru we'll ship it right out. 2 hours later I get a call from them saying my card has been declined twice NONSENSE way more than enough to cover $919 in the account, I called them back today to find out what the status is and the guy tells me the order is on hold pending review as the card was declined, SO I call my bank they told me what I already knew in that they had place I the funds on hold as per Hobby Peoples request friday night when they ran the card (ie) they essentially got paid, so I call HP back and he says theres nothing he can do it's stuck in the system he'd have to cancel the original order and run yet a second order and request for funds as they cannot ship the first order because it shows as card declined in their system which is an absolute lie as my bank account shows absolutely zero declined transactions at all back and forth back and forth I told them to shove it and cancel my order now I have $919 on hold till thursday and hopefully the transfer doesn't go thru and send them $$$ for a plane I'm never going to see, the guy I spoke to was a real prince to deal with the sob acted like I was trying to run a game on him I finally told him they were as screwed up as a soup sandwich and I'd never order from them again all I can say is buyer beware. Anybody else have problems with them? or is it just me
I agree with you. There is no reason for your funds to be on hold. There use to be forums here i recall with members whoi were reps of certain companies. Not sure if it is around or not but nothing will bring down a companyfaster than this website since it is the number one RC site they all go to to see what we're saying, There is always someplace else.

Cheap Sims
Well I need some simulator time before I stick my planes back up in the air being out for quite a while due to medical issues . I have the FMS and looking on the old sites for the other ones. These cheapies are not Windows 7 compatible. Any ideas?

RE: Right thrust
ORIGINAL: tripower222 I purchased a plane hanging from the ceiling of my lhs ( a 4 stroke). Whoever built it put 0 right thrust in it, WOW I never would have thought it would have made that much of a difference. At times, on low rate it takes full right rudder to make up for it. This is my first 4 stroke maybe even with proper right thrust angle it will still pull. What do you think? I'm going to shim the motor mount and see how much it helps.
Are you sure? Most Arfs now come with right thrust already built into the firewall. When the engine and cowl are mounted, you really won't know unless you stand over it and look down.

RE: spelling and grammar check
ORIGINAL: tacx O.K., I can't take it anymore. We need spell checker. Grammar checker would be great, but I know that is asking to much. Even a coma or a period would be nice. I read these posts and I am amazed that someone can type a whole paragraph without a comma, period, capital letter, or any of the other punctuation mark! Some of these questions could be answered easily if there were not ten different ways to interpret them. Sorry, I couldn't help myself.
Are you the same guy complaining about this on the Corvette Forums?

RE: PHOENIX MODELS F-20 TIGERSHARK ?
As far as I know there is no designated set I have a $20 set of basic Hobbico mechanicals on mine. Some I know have air. One other thing when building the mounts for the retracts is don't be shywith the epoxy and maybe some glass around the entire backside of the mounts. Bullet proof it. You don't want them busting out the topside of the wing on a hard landing. 10 years ago I had a WM 40 size P51 with a G90 in it. What a plane. One day while i was going full speed, the battery failed and that damn thing wen a couple miles out into the desert. Took 2 hours to find that thing. Pieces all over the place but those retracts were still in the mounts

RE: Ultrathrust mufflers
A few years ago this guy and I had identical "stiks" I don't recall what brand. We just had a bunch of guys and we would informally race these things. We had the smaller ones and both of us had the TT46pro. I had an ultrathrust and his was stock and I could take him easy. So we decided to switch mufflers just for something to do and the obvious was now he could take me-until I blew through some kids trainer and lost the whole thing. Nothing more ipressive than a good mid air collision. They do work when set up right

RE: PHOENIX MODELS F-20 TIGERSHARK ?
ORIGINAL: _Tommy D I'm thinking a 10x8 APC with a Ultrathrust muffler. I'm waiting on the engine but will post figures when it arrives.
Hint -try a 10/6 apc with the ultrathrust. 10/8 is too much. You need the rpms. It's comforting to see that nothing has changed. Listen. You're not going to have the perfect setup on the first flight and will be lucky if you get close around the 10th. If you want a speed typ plane, don't be in a sport type frame of mind. Pick a prop. Doesn't matter what I think but if it were me it would be an APC. Start with a 10/6. The key is to fly it this way for several flights. You can't keep changing stuff around every flight. Fly it for at least 5 flights, then when you make a change in props, it will be noticeable-either good or bad. Pitch is what gives you speed. Not sure about the 10/6, try a 10/7. I don't think you'll be happy with any 11. It's a trade off and it takes time to get the right combination. Your setup on these need to be reliable. The wingloading is very high and if the engine quits, it's coming down like a brick. Also never ever do a control crash in the weeds on any plane with retracts with the wheels still down. It will not "protect" the plane. it will ripp the ______ out of it. If you can get the wheels up and just belly land. If not, your wings wil be destroyed

RE: PHOENIX MODELS F-20 TIGERSHARK ?
ORIGINAL: rcutdf My thoughts exactly[:)] I am just getting started on my own F-20 this week. I had a failed maiden on a CBM powered sloper last week, so now it's on to the next project. Been through this whole thread, and planning to apply all advice given. Jett 60lx impatiently waiting. I am wondering about the lite foamy tires that come with the kit, are they gonna handle a grass field ok? I like that they're so light though. This will be my quickest plane to date, and given the reviews of it being a tame airframe, I'm pretty comfortable and excited. Cheers, Dave
You want to bring out the best in that thing, APC props. I run a 9/8 on a Jett 50 on my F20 and it is a screamer. Chuck the foam tires and buy Kavan. Hard plastic. This is a good advantage when on asphalt. It allows th eplane to slide sideays without wheelhopping when you have to stop short or abort a takeoff Anyone who will spend the time and the money on an F20 and installing a Jett, should go with retracts or it is all pointless and might as well throw a 46fx in it

RE: AKM SU-27 Flanker-Does Look Good
ORIGINAL: Billybuck I was wondering if 1/8 fully threaded rod would work for elevator and rudder instead of solid rod? Also, where do you buy the plastic bearings (look like hinges) that you use to attach the rod to the elevators? Also has anyone done a fixed gear setup. If so, what did you use for main gear mounting blocks? Someone here said there are no dumb questions. I'm testing that theory a bit. Thanks for your thoughts on this.
THreaded rod is not a good idea. Vibration and break it. I've seen some use them for servo connections. Your flying on borrowed time

Hello all
Yeh I'm still alive. Had a rough couple years with very little flying. Had cataract surgery a couple years ago. Finally got that squared away. Then concentrating on myson finishing up his Masters in Engineering. He landed a great job in Livermoore (if any of you work their). Kind of got out of the hobby a bit while working on a old Vette I boiught. Then had a blown appendics last fall. Took part of the colon with it and have a scar from above my naval down to my ???? So I'm trying to get a plane done for a friend I started a long time ago so I can work on that giant Long EZ I got. Thats my story. How are you all. Tianci around?
