RE: Great Planes Seawind Water Takeoff Tips
Will do! I'll let you know how it goes once I finally get it up in the air.

RE: Great Planes Seawind Water Takeoff Tips
I can't speak to the flying characteristics of the Seawind yet but I'm a sucker for looks and in terms of RC amphibians the Seawind takes the cake... At least until someone comes out with a proper fiberglass ICON A5 (the Parkzone foam one is nice but really just a toy).

RE: Help with Building a GP Seawind
Ha ha! No, I wouldn't taxi into the water but I may want to take off on land and land in the water (or vice versa) so I don't want to take the landing gear out if I don't have to. Given the weight do you think the 65AX engine is powerful enough? I might be adding a GoPro HD inside the cockpit too.

RE: Help with Building a GP Seawind
Thanks Jim! By "not using the retracts in water" do you mean I have to take them out of the plane and seal the holes or just that I shouldn't for some reason extend the landing gear in the water?

I can put this directly onto the transmitter circuit board and GoPro camera?

Waterproofing a GoPro HD and Transmitter in a Seawind
Hi There! I'm putting a gopro HD into my Great Planes Seawind so I need to have both the camera and the transmitter waterproofed. Can anyone recommend a way to do this? The gopro comes with a waterproof case but doesn't fit in it with the wire to the transmitter attached. And the transmitter gets to hot to just stick it in a ziplock bag with some Vaseline sealing off the hole for the wire.

Help with Building a GP Seawind
Hi There! I just pulled my Great Planes Seawind out of the box and started building it (finally). I think it's one of the original versions GP came out with so I'm wondering what tweeks I should be making to the plane that will make it perform better (smoother), be more durable and sturdy than it would be if I follow the instructions in the manual to the letter. I started going through the threads to see everyones' suggestions but I just realized there are literally thousands of posts! If I go through all of them it'll be next summer before the plane is built. If anyone has any tips or advice on building the seawind please let me know. I'm using a 2-stroke OS MAX 65AX engine and a 3-blade Master Airscrew 11x7 in. - 28x18 cm prop. PS. In some of the posts I read people were saying that the Seawind CAN'T have landing gear if I intend to fly it on water. Has anyone figured out how to have the landing gear installed and still land in water? I have E-Flight Change for the best an reliable electric retracts in the world electric retracts.

Great Planes Seawind Water Takeoff Tips
Hi There! I bought a Great Planes Seawnd .60 last year and just started building it. This will be my first attempt to fly a fast, expensive, gas powered plane off water and while I'm excited to get it in the air I'm nervous about the takeoff and landing. None of the seaplanes I've flown before take off or land at such high speeds. Does anyone have any tips for taking off and landing a Seawind in water?

RE: Great Planes Seawind
Hi Guys! Sorry to bud in here but the Great Planes Seawind has been my dream plane for years now but I've been waiting until I got good enough to fly it. Now that I feel I'm ready they've discontinued it!!! Does anyone know where I can still get my hands on one, preferably a new one in the box (I like building them myself)? I've tried posting a wanted ad but for some reason it keeps making it a selling ad.

You're probably right. I would still like to find a kit though. Maybe I can hook it up to one of my old planes.

Eye in the Sky
Hi There! I've just decided to buy myself a Great Planes Seawind and I'm thinking of trying something new. I've been seeing videos of wireless video cameras that can be installed on airplanes which, wearing special goggles, allows the pilot to fly the plane in First-Person view. I've found a small video camera 'here' and goggles 'there' but I haven't been able to find a kit or at least all the equipment sold in the same place so that I can be sure it all works together. Does anyone know where I can find this?

Small-Scale Float Plane
Hi There! I'm looking for my first float plane and am finding it hard to find one that suits me. I would like a relatively small scale one but not some cheap toy, which seams to be the only thing I can find in small scale. I would also prefer an ARF or RTF. Any suggestions?

Hi There! Can anyone tell me where I can get a detailed scale Sopwith Camel kit. I've seen snipe kits and pup kits but a good Camel kit is hard to find. The smaller the better actually.

RE: The Best P-51 Mustang
Okay, now that I settled on a Hangar 9 or Top Flight Mustang, I just have a couple more questions. Can I change the design (covering) on the ARF Mustangs such as on the Hangar 9 or Top Flight ones (I'm a Chuck Yeager fan)? Can I change the retracts to better quality ones (someone mentioned the Hangar 9 Mustangs don't have good quality retracts)? And can I modify them so that the tail wheel retracts as well without messing up the way they fly?

RE: The Best P-51 Mustang
Is that because he has better quality or because you reccomend I support North American products? Because Nick's kits are a lot more expensive than Hangar 9 or top-Flight.

Yes, this is my first warbird, if youdon't include the Great Planes Sopwith Camel I'm waiting to arrive so that I can fly something in the park until next summer.

A Good Book
Hi There! Is there a good book out there that teaches everything I'd need to know about RC flying? I've been flying summertimes for the past few years and am pretty good at it but as soon as anyone starts talking about two stroke, four stroke and mixing I have no idea what they're talking about. I'd love to be able to understand engines and transmitters and all that without having to ask about everything as it comes up. Any suggestions?

RE: The Best P-51 Mustang
Wow, those last few suggestions look great (I found a place that sells both). They're both fiberglass, no? Is that what makes them heavyer? And if they are heavier would a more powerful engine make them fly properly or will they always be slower?
