SONIC RETRACTS
Just heard about a company called SONIC ELECTORNICS. They have a set of rotating electric retracs that look like they may be just what I am looking for. They have a set that they claim will work on a model up to 15 pounds, and the price is right. Has anyone here ever heard of them or used them. And if so any good/bad feelings toward them? Thanks.

RE: Fuel Issues
I prefer the 3 line system. This way I do not have to remove the line from the muffler to fuel my plane. This way I dont have to worry about tearing my line on the barbed fitting on the muffler. It is much easier to pull a plug from the fill line (third line) than to work the line off a barbed fitting.

RE: Fuel Issues
Im thinking that you may have your fuel lines routed wrong. On a 3 line tank, 2 of the lines should have clunks on them, and the third going to the muffler should be pointed up inside the tank. If you cannot suck fuel out of the tank, you may have the carb line and the pressure line reversed.

RE: PITTS SC1
Sorry, but I should have stated that the top wing on the full size plane is positive not negative.

PITTS SC1
I am scratch building a Pitts SC1 (Lil Stinker) and was wondering about wing incidence. The plans call for 0 deg incidence for both top and bottom wings with a 3 deg dehydral on the lover wing. The original full size showed a 0 deg incidence for the bottom and 1' 30" deg on the top wing. Can anyone direct me in the right direction as this is my first bi-plane and I am not sure wether to follow the original full size specs or go with the r/c plan specs. and what should I expect out of either. Thanks

Pitts S1
I am in the process of scratch building a Pitts S1 and in need of some ideas as to how to attach wing stay wires that would be simple and fast to assemble at the field. I have a few thoughts but none that will be simple and still somewhat scale looking, and quick to hook up at the field. Any ideas?

RE: RE:
My mistake, the plans are Royal. Did you do your lil stinker from a kit or the plans and how did it perform. I like the idea of a larger version. When I finish with this I may have the plans blown up. As it is real Lil Stinker was so small that the plans actually are 1/4 scale and meant for a .60 size engine. I think that I will go bigger though.

"lil Stinker"
I am in the process of building a scale "lil Stinker" Pits S1 from a set of Sterling plans and was curious if anyone on here has built one from these plans or other plans and how it turned out. The specs for this plane call for a .60 2 stroke glow but I am thinking along the lines of a 4 stroke maybe something in the .90 range but undecided as of yet. Just finished all the wood cutting and hopefully begin building this weekend. Anyone who has built this plane and has any input please chime in. Herb

RE: MonoKote will not shrink
Have been using monokote for awhile now. I agree that it seems to take more heat than earlier stuff but I still get good results from it. It seems to be stronger than Ultracote and once tightened it seem to wrinkle less when in the sun. I get the best results using a iron and forgetting about the heat gun. Monokote does not appear to be as transparent as Ultracote which I like.Maybe some who have had trouble with it just aren't applying enough heat.

RE: Evolution Glow Engine Success Story
Sport Pilot, I think that you might be a little surprised at the amount of parts go into your "American made" items you buy, from cars down to your home appliances that are manufactured in China or North Korea. We are truely growing into a global economy wether we like it or not. For me I like my Super Tiger and Evolution engines even though they can be a little finicky at times [8D]

RE: Adding Flaps to the Escapade 40?
I have an Escapade 40 that I mixed in flaparions instead of adding flaps. The plane was fun to begin with this just added to it. It makes landings real slow and easy. It makes some of the manauvers really awesome to do. I dont have alot mixed in. I have them on a 3 way switch, first throw is off, second is 10% and third is 15%.

RE: Making a Good Landing
I generally shoot for a couple of feet past the start of the runway. For me it is the easiest to control that way. As the plane is coming towards me I will see if either wing starts to drop off, (stall) and easier for me to line up. I also have the whole runway to use. I generally cut to idle on the the final approach turn and add throttle as needed to keep the glide path good. I guess everyone has his/her own routine that they are comfortable with.

RE: RC Airplane Kits.............
Go back to your roots and build from a set of good plans. There are alot of them out there and it really is not that hard and is alot of fun. Plus you know what you have when you are finished which goes with a certain amount of pride that you did it.

RE: Lil Stinker
Okay I ordered the plans from Royal. I think that this will be a fun build. I will be my first r/c biplane. There is a guy at our field who loves biplanes so I will be leaning on him pretty heavy for advice. I am looking forward to getting the plans and gathering up all the wood. I will have to wait a little while though until I clear my table of the plane I am building now.

RE: escapade flaps?
I actually app;y them on my final leg just before lining up with the runway. This does 2 things, it helps to slow down the plane while maintaining enough lift to help prevent stalling. On the Escapade with the llx4 prop and flaps it will float in on landings making it a breeze to land and making you look like you are really that good at landings

RE: Lil Stinker
Yeah I remember it being able to twist ya around, I seem to remember it flew on pretty short lines. I just thought it would make a nice plane to model in 60 size.

Lil Stinker
I think I posted my first post on this in the wrong area so I will ask my question here again. I remeber a control line model from my childhood made by World's largest Cox dealer! Cox called a Lil Stinker. I have finally located a set of planes for a 60 size Lil Stinker from a company called R-C Royal. My question is has anyone delt with this company and if so any comments. The plans sound like a great deal and are supposed to be complete ready to build from but I am leary as they seem pretty inexpensive. Any input is appreciated. Thanks

RE: Escapade .40 a good second plane?
I have flown my Escapade for about 6 months now and after a little trial and error love it. I enabled flaparons on my radio to slow it down a little on landings as it was a little fast. I also switched to a 11x4 acp prop which slowed it down even more on landing without hurting performance at all in fact I think it helped. I am using a 40 S.T. I have dialed in about 10% flaps that I actuate on the final approach and this thing just kinda hangs in the air. I have had no trouble with the canopy at all. In fact I find that when you attach it properly it is pretty hard to get it loose. The only 2 things that I found on the plane to give me trouble was the tail wheel (very cheap and bends easily so I changed it to a dubro. And the CG on the instruction sheet is way off to make it fly good, so I moved it back until it felt comfortable. I would really recommend this plane for second plane, it is actually a lot of fun. I am thinking of getting the escapade 60 now. By the way with the white wings it can be a little disorienting if you are not paying attention. Try on I think you will like it and you will also find the price hard to beat.

RE: Why Doesn't The AMA and the Hobby as a whole market to minorities?
I am not sure what is going on here but aren't the club members AMA representatives in trueth. Our club has a pretty good mix of young and old, black, hispanic, and a few from other countries. I am not sure that I have ever seen an AMA event that did not have the same mix. also have not seen any flaming on this post. Is it possible that the OP has his own agenda?

RE: escapade flaps?
I have them on a 3 postition switch. 1 is 0% 2 is 10@ and 3 is 15%. I did not mix in any elavator as I wanted to control that myself. It works out pretty good. When I first tried it out I flew it high to see what the effects would be. At full deployment it really slowed the plane alot and added a lot of lift. At the 2nd setting it added very little lift but still slowed the plane. The best part is it had a lot slower stall rate. The plane is really mild mannered in landing now. I also changed the prop to a 11x6 ( I will have to check that to be sure) and it also helped slow the plane when idled back but did not seem to effect wot speed at all. Hope this helps you.

RE: escapade flaps?
Since posting my question about flaparons I have had the chance to use them on my Escapade. Deploying them on the final landing I can really make a slow approach and landings are much easier. It kinda just floats in.

RE: Super Tigre 40 problems
If you are sure that the glo plug is good and you are getting fuel I would check out the fuel you are using. I have a 40 S.T and have had trouble only 2 times. Once the glow plug glowed when I had it out of the head and attached to the glowbee but for some reason it would not get hot enough in the engine. And the other time I got a new jug of bad fuel. That time it would not even try to fire.

RE: Great Planes Escapade .40 ARF
Most of the issues that most have had with this plan I have not seen with mine. The control surfaces, hinges and tail assembly all are okay on mine. like I posted the only 2 things that I have found that needed attention was the tail wheel (which I intend to rectify this weekend) and the proper c.g. location. Other than those 2 items I really enjoy flying this plane.

RE: Great Planes Escapade .40 ARF
I put 2 1/2 oz in the nose of my Escapade to get it to balance as the plans indicated. On the first flights it was landing pretty fast but flew well. I began removing the weight on the next flights and as I did it did the landings became easier and slower until I actually had it tail heavy by the indicated C.G. on the plans. It is now easier to land and it flies very well. It actually is an easy/fun plane to fly. My only issue is the tail wheel (to flimsy and bends) which I intend to change as suggested by others here.

RE: alieron servo question? please.
Possibly one of the control surfaces binding or a bad servo? I had a binding aleiron cause a similar situation. I could tap the offending surface with my finger and it would slowly respond.

I have mine balance about 1/8" behind the wing spar. It seems I have move it around a little but that is where it seems to fly the best. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine.

RE: my next step by low wing spacewalker - inquiry
I have been flying the Space Walker now for about 3 months and really enjoy it. I have a S.T. 46 in mine and feel it is plenty of power for the plane to do anything it was designed to do. The only "bad traits" it seems to have is veering to the left on take-offs. I have found that the only way to keep it in control on take-offs is to feed a little rudder in as soon as it starts to gain speed. I use very little rudder once it is in the air. It flies very well on airlerons and elavator only. Landing is sometimes a little bouncy as it does not seem to like to stay planted once the wheels hit. I consider 2 bounces a great landing . So far I have found nothing that I dislike about the engine/plane combination I have. And most at the field find the plane really cool looking.

escapade flaps?
Has anyone here tried flaparons on the 40 size escapade? If so how well did they work? I am in the process of programing my transmitter and while I was at it I was thinking of programing in flaparons to see if it would slow this plane way down without it stalling.
