RE: 3 And 4+ Cyl. Engines ?
In line tripple 2 stroke gas in a P-51 or 5/7/9 cylinder gas radial in an appropriate plane = no sweeter sound. P-51 far the cheaper solution.

RE: 3w 240 twin
I had an EVO300 four cylinder an I liked the Bolly 36x14 and so did the 3W275 twin. Depending on the prop, start out with a 34x10 to 36x12.

RE: KOLM 4 STROKE GAS ENGINES
The in-line tripple 4-stroke sounds very nice. The coolest engine I've ever heard was an in-line tripple 2-stroke. That was at Joe Nall and I think is was in a P-51. Hearing that thing warm up was like listening to a Ferrari. If I had the means and ability I would build an in-line four cylinder 2-stroke. If you've been on the water and heard a V8 Evinrude or Mercury 2-stroke outboard, that is also a sweet sound.

Weatronic Clever?
Has anybody seen or heard of the new 6ch Weatronic Clever Rx? Is it small enough to be suitable for foamies (38"ws, 12-14oz size)? I'm expecting my 14MZ module and Rx very soon and would like to fly foamies with this system.

RE: Gas Weed Eater to Glow Conversion-What is this?
It has more power on methanol. You can buy straight methanol for around $5 per gallon, then mix in about 4% oil, this engine doesn't need much oil. Converting back to gas will probably cost the same or more than what you can get a decent Chinese gas engine for.

RE: 2-cylinder vs 4-cylinder
I don't care what Dick says, how old he is or how much less he doesn't know than me lol. If you take two 2-stroke engines of similar displacement, one a boxer twin, the other a boxer quad, the difference in vibrations is beyond significant. I have an EVO300cc four cylinder on a Bill Hempel 50% Edge540. I can run this engine on the airframe without having wings or stabs mounted, and the vibrations don't kill the airframe (the top of the rudder shakes just enough that you don't want to do this to much), try doing that with a 240-300cc twin. A quad totally wins in the bling factor, it sounds like a Ferrari, it's throttle responsive, it swings a smaller prop than a similar sized twin, but swings it faster. For pure reliability, simplicity, power, cost, go with a twin. For bling, smoothness, stealing the show and if the mechanical technology intriques you, go with the quad. If you are building a custom lightweight air frame, it will last longer with a quad. I had a TOC 40% Yak54 with a Herbrandson 280cc twin in it. The engine was converted to reed valve controlled crank case induction with single carburetor (Disk knows it) and is very docile to run and work with. However, after each flight multiple screws were missing, wood joints had to be checked and in general that air frame would not have lasted very long with that engine. It would have been sweet though with the EVO300 and I know a guy in France is flying just that combo.

Who cares what it looks like? If people notice it on you transmitter (not looking at your plane) maybe you should spend more time at home on the simulator. If it's the best link between you and your plane, don't question the little things.

I just picked up a 3M Mintor 150B4 with ignitions, I desperately need some instructions, heck, I don't even know how to hook up fuel and the remote needle to this thing. I also need to make a header system for it but I think I've found some Krumscheid flanges that'll work. BAF Power System
I see a BAF in my near future, just have to sell a couple of small foamies to a friend to finance it. I would like to go with a Scorpion 3020-12 and Commander 55A setup, and that would cost $130.00 (possibly minus 10% discount). However, at unitedhobbies, it looks like I could get a comparable setup for as little as $42.00. Does anybody here have any experience with either of these motors or controller? RE: EVO80TT and DiablotinXXL build.
JEFFRO503, Sorry, but I can't offer much info on the 80TT. I had three flights with the DiaXXL/EVO80TT and something happened on all three. On maiden the main wheels came off he he, just skidded to a stop on the gear. On the second flight, a small electric airplane flew into me while in a hover. I cut the little electric in half and continued hovering he he. I did have to do a little repair to one wing. On the third flight, while doing a slow speed snap, the firewall delaminated and tossed the engine and cowl off the plane. The plane came to the ground with minor damage and the engine was fine. I sold the engine and gave the plane to my local club. Right now I am installing an EVO150Magnesium in my Comp-ARF SX. The EVO will exshaust into a couple of AMT80 pipes, so should be interesting what kind of power it has. I also have an EVO300Magnesium in a 50% Edge540 and it runs and sounds great. I will take that engine out of the Edge though and install another EVO300Competition (black case and cylinders with yellow heads and hub) in the Edge to check out that engine and get some time on it.

The attached is from page 17 in the 2.6m 260 instructions manual from Caomp-ARF's website. I am sure all the other manuals from planes with similar single control horns say the same.

RE: Composite-Arf 33% Gee Bee R2 - First Flight - Pics - Videos - L@@K
RichardGee, In post 71 you are showing that you are using ball links on the single control links on elevators. I know that with all the aerobatic models from Composite-ARF, this is strongly NOT recommended, due to the twist and flex this set-up can cause on the linkage. Either a clevis or double control arms with a ball link between them should be used. You may not have a whole lot of throw in your elevators on this plane, but it is supposedly a fast plane, and if this control horn starts flexing at high speed I see flutter coming next. Happy 4th by the way.

I built my own trailer from a Harbor Freight 4' x 8' kit. I have decided just to stick with my toy-hauler (to much hassle switching planes between 2 trailers) so I have mine for sale. RE: Having a problem proforming the elevator maneuver
Sounds like CG is to far forward. It is also often necessary to add a slight bit of power which helps to keep the tail down. When the airplane is in the elevator, both wings are stalled. The airplane can then drop the nose and if it is allowed to do that, it will gain forward velocity and the wings will start to fly again, this often manifests itself in wing rock and can be alleviated with a little power to bring the nose up, slow the decent and bring the wings back into a stalled condition.

RE: w to gas planes
How big a gas plane you should jump to depends largely on your experience, not your flying skills and how well you think you are going to fly this airplane. I see it again and again people who can probably fly anything, but with limited experience, gets in an unknown situation, panics and damages or destroys their plane. When I say experience, I mean knowing what to do when the unexpected happens, and not panic. The last example I saw was a guy at my field getting a deadstick at about 300', 100' up from the numbers. In stead of doing some 360s or S's he dived the plane to the numbers, levelled out, glided across the runway, was not able to turn left due to a glider pilot, and semi crashed the plane in unfamilliar territory, he even more or less blamed the glider pilot for standing where he did and preventing him from wearing left to a more suitable area. But the fault was entirely his own for turning his brains off the moment the unexpected happened. I could rifle of many other situations where pilots do the wrong things, either from the get go or when the unexpected happens. So ask yourself, and if you know any really experienced pilots, if you think you are ready for a 100cc plane or should stick to a 50cc plane as the next step up.

RE: Evolution 26GX questions
You should have a manual switch between the ignition battery and the ignition. If this switch has a charge jack you can also charge the battery this way. If you have an additional remote ignition kill, that should be installed between the manual switch and the ignition. I am not sure I understand your second question. I doubt the manual has carburetor needle settings for different type mufflers. If you bought the engine new, just run at first time with the way the needles are set. If you have 0 experience with running this type engine, please go to your local field or find local people who do have experience, and run it with them.

Try to go to a European website and price 3W engines in Euro, even without their VAT, then convert to US$, we are getting a huge break on the price here in the US, since otherwise they wouldn't sell anything here.
ORIGINAL: rcmaster12 How much, just wonderin
I have an EVO300Magnesium in my Bill Hempel 50% Edge540, and that engine goes for $3,800.00 about 1 year ago. With the falling US$ it could be more now. After running a 4-cylinder engine in one airplane, you do wish you could run them in all your planes, they are smooth, responsive and sounds great.

RE: Heat and Space
You should move your tank. It sounds like you''ve mounted the tank according to the build instructions and they were for a big glow engine, hence the small distance between tank and engine. On gasoline engine powered airplanes you can mount the tank as far away from the engine as you please, and the engine will still run fine. We all strive to mount the tank on CG, so CG doesn''t change with fuel usage.

RE: My home built trailer
I finished installing the siding - on the sides. Next, I need to do a little sanding at the fron and start installing the front siding. I will probably do the two front sides first, since they will be the hardest to attach, since there really is no flush tubing side to attach to. Also the right front side will have a door in it, it would be wise to do all that work while still having good access to both sides. Anyway, a couple of pictures of the latest progress. I just had to go see how much a Haulmark 6 x 12 is, since the amount of work building this thing is a bit more than expected. Of course a 6 x 12 is a little bigger and nicer, but at $2,600.00 plus tax and registration, I guess I am still ahead of the came since I will probably have about $800-$900 in this one and it will be lighter.

RE: My home built trailer
When I stepped in the shower Tuesday morning there was no hot water WTF. I went to the basement (10' x 10' concrete encasement with 5' walls in the crawl space) to see if I neede to light the water heater. When I opened the door I was looking at a black abyss, 5' of black murky water, crap, that really ruined my day. The water heater, water softener and house heater were all submerged. I called the FD and they pumped the water (1500 gallons) out in 1.5 hours. My neighbour plumber came over at 1pm, scooped out more water (the FD had left about 2"), capped the busted pipe, dryed out my water heater and relit it and it now worls fine. I have removed the rest of the water (shovelled it into a bucket - 3 buckets), placed a fan down there and it is dry now, but smells of dirt and clay. All the wood on the trailer will get a coat of primer and a final coat of paint. It will be parked at an angle so puddles don't collect on the roof, and I may cover it with a tarp during the rainy season [:D] all 2 weeks he he. I already got a ticket for doing 75 with a trailer, so I really try to stay at 65. I think these tires are fine for the load they are carrying, there is not even any kind of sidewall deflection, so I doubt they'll develop much heat. For the longer trips, where I'll want to spend the night, I take my toy-hauler.
