RE: Remember your first RC?
Unfortunately no pics left, but yes thats where it all started. A good freind of mine had been into RC's when he was younger and he convinced a couple of us to pick them up with him. I was lost when this big box of parts and a clear body showed up. I was literally dumb founded. If not my for my buddy the thing would still be in pieces in my attic. I ended up getting out of it for years and years but I'm back now I want to say the cost was around 250-300 (maybe less) with the remote, ignitor, fuel, and everything to get it running.

RE: Remember your first RC?
My first car was a 1/10 Grasshopper back about 1990ish. Great little entry level car for the day. I hear Tamiya has worked them over and re-released them too.

RE: Problem with Redcat Shockwave
ORIGINAL: Reuben-rc The problem with my Redcat Shockwave is that when you try to prime it fuel doesnt go through the gas line cause there is no air pressure. Also I am kind of new to nitro rc cars but is there supposed to be nitro or some liquid everywere after you run it? I think it might be a leak in the gas tank that is causeing both. Please tell me anything you think that it might be. Thank You!
My Avalance spilled fuel like that as well when I first got it. Found out I had over filled the tank and when I tried to prime the motor it was pushing a little out of the tank. Also remember that the Nitro car should be spitting some fuel out of the exhaust when it's running right. I'm certainly not a pro by any means, just giving you my personal expiriences here lately. I'm sure one of the brains will give more insight if there's a bigger problem.

RE: Avalanche XP
ORIGINAL: rchobbyunlimited The pins that hold on your rear bearing holders and the a arms front and back keep plenty of these pins on hand they tend to bend easy especially when racing. Get some replacement servos for when the factory servos go out they are no good!!!!!!!!!!!!! http://www.redcatracing.com/RC-Cars/Redcat-Parts/81032
Actually I want to go ahead and upgrade the servers to metal gears right away. Then I'll have the factory servers as back ups if I ever need them. Do you have any suggestions on what I might get and where to get a fair deal on them? I'm looking for bullet proof not bang for buck. I'm not familiar with the pins for the rear bearing holders. Will have to look into that and make sure I have a few. But I did just buy a complete set of wrist pins from EBay, I'll have to look and see of they are included in the set.

RE: heard lots of bad stuff about Redcat....BUT
ORIGINAL: Dads like rc too haole- you'll have no problem finding any parts you need on ebay or online hobby stores. When I'm looking for parts under $5.00 I try to find as much as I can on ebay with free shipping. There is tons of stuff on there. If I'm looking to make multiple part purchases I usually buy from RC Planet. They offer $2.50 shipping so if I'm spending a little more it's worth paying the shipping to get the parts cheaper. It's really a shame that my local hobby shop doesn't stock Redcat. I've talked to him a few times about it. He's told me how Redcat is just junk and not worth the hassle. What he doesn't understand is I'm not a racer. I like to have fun running around the neighborhood and parks with my son. Redcat is perfect out of the box for this. The hobby shop is a Traxxas dealer. The cheapest nitro anything they sell is around $350.00. At that price range I would have never got involved in the hobby if I had to purchase two cars for $700 to $800 dollars. I've had very minimal problems with the two Redcats I own. Normal wear and tear. I'm not ripping on the pricier cars. They have their place but right now it is not with me. I would like to support the local businesses, I buy replacement and upgrade parts almost weekly. Unfortunately this is done all on the internet since they are not available locally. I wonder how many other dads that have a family budget to keep up with first before RC cars feel the same way?
I'm a dad that is "new again" to the hobby. My first car back is a Redcat Avalanche XP that I bought new from a local Redcat dealer. I completely agree with what your saying about price point and quality versus other brands. The only reason I got back into this is to find something fun that my now 10 year old son and I can do besides Play Station 3. By the time I bought the truck, starter kit, kill switch, fuel, batteries, tools, etc I had already burned through around $500 just to get started. I'm not really on a budget other than common sense so the money isn't an issue. But my common sense say if I had to spend much more than that my son and I would have been looking at a different hobby. Now I won't insult anyone by saying Redcat is better than anyone else because I really don't know...yet. It's a fairly new brand and I've been away from it for far too long. In fact 10 minutes after we broke the in the Avalanche motor we started to thrash it a little it ended up wrapped around a light pole after a wide open throttle crash. So I can't even speak a bunch about how good Redcats are or aren't. But I will say this, with my past expirience (nearly 20 years ago) I'm VERY happy and impressed with what Redcat offers in speed and performance so far. I didn't get to thrash it a whole bunch so I can't speak to the durability. But I also don't think a head on high speed crash into an immovable object is a fair test. With that said I only broke the servo saver, blew out a shock, bent both upper and lower wrist pins, and trashed the upper suspension arm. A new body and 60 bucks in parts and we'll be back on the road. Not bad all things considered. One last comment, I've been looking on Craigs list and EBay for used Redcats or parts donor cars for the Avalanche. There are a bunch of the other brands for sale real cheap. But very few people are getting rid of there Redcats! My 2 cents worth are only worth a penny but there it is!

RE: Avalanche XP
Well any other suggestions on spare parts for the XP let me know. Like I said earlier, I used to run race / rc's but that was 20 years ago. I'm just now getting back into it with my son and all of these cars and a lot of the technology is new to me. THanks for the help guys!

RE: Brand new Tornado s30 starting help!
ORIGINAL: Zlash03 The good news is I got it to run yesterday after a few more hours of tuning. I set everything to how it was shown in the videos, but I have 2 problems. 1. When I adjust the carb to 1mm and dont turn the radio or car on, it starts to go full throttle. Yesterday it wouldnt stop, even pinching the fuel line. 2. When I have both things on and start it, it will cut out after a few seconds but wont rev to full speed. I noticed the more you prime it the longer it stays on. I can see it staying on when its full throttle cause its sucking the fuel in faster. Another problem is my high speed adjustment is very picky. If I turn it to much it floods in one prime pull, or it will cut out cause it wont get enough fuel. It doesnt seem to be able to find a perfect spot. I also hate the flooding thing cause its wasting my $35 gallon of nitro. Is there a possibilty I need to change the low speed adjustment?
First of all you should always have the car and the remote turned on BEFORE you try to start the car. If you don't then the carb openning will be way to big. Also when you adjust the carb setting make sure both are turned on. I did the same thing when I got my Nitro and it was very frustrating. As for the car wanting to take off when you start it, again make sure the remote and the car are turned on. Also, get a good fail safe and make sure it's set up correctly. That should stop those problems.

RE: Avalanche XP
ORIGINAL: ShredderGuy
ORIGINAL: DKnox Thats all great info, Thanks! The more I read the more disturbed I am about ending up with the XP. Although it seems to be a great platform, I wish I had known it was a 4 year old model. Oh well, if my son really takes to it like I did back in the day, this will only be the beginning for us.
The XP is a great little platform even though

RE: Avalanche XP
Thanks! That is the plan when the stock servo's wear out. Gonna be awhile before that happens. My 10 year old son won't be thrashing it too hard. But his dad (me) ran it into a light pole about 10 minutes after we broke in the motor...OUCH! New parts are on the way for round 2

Avalanche XP
Do people still talk about the Avalanche XP? Is Redcat even still on these forums??I'm an old school racer thats been out of it for 20+ years. But I just picked up a new Avalanche XP for my 10 year old that has shwon some interest in racing. I looking at reviews and comments on these forums, it looks like I made the right decision with Redcat and the Avalanche XP. Put I'm struggling to find quality hop ups for the car. Any suggestions on an exhaust?
