RE: PVA question
I have similar issues when I spray PVA from my HVLP gun. I put about three light coats and I can easily see the green color inside the mold surface. But my finished parts generally come out OK. I'm not an expert - just another hobbyist that produces composite parts from time to time.

RE: Need a std muffler for an MDS 2.18/MOKI 2.1
Bisson used to make a nice "sport" muffler for the Moki / Mark 180 and 210. It looks just like most smaller mufflers (only bigger).

RE: afp
research if there is an updated driver for your video graphics card. If you know the manufacturer and model, this is pretty easy to find on their web site. Nvidia is a popular manufacturer.

RE: Mixing Glow fuel
The calculations on the first post are close. you should change the last calculation: 116.5 / .88 = 132.38 132.38 * .12 = 15.8736 15.8736 - 11.5 = 4.3736 < add 4.3736 ounces of oil So you will have total oil of 11.5 + 4.3736 = 15.8736 And total alcohol of: 116.5 total ounces of fuel: 116.5 + 15.8736 = 132.3736 Dave (Math Major)

RE: Fastest Charge in the West
First of all, with 4600 mAh of receiver / servo capacity, you can probably go 8 or 10 flights on one charge. I run a single A123 2-cell 2300 for my 35% Yak (10 digital servos). I do have to recharge after 4 flights. I charge through the heavy duty switch at 3 amps, so it takes almost an hour if the packs are really run down. In practice, I tend to charge after the second flight for maybe 15 minutes. From that point on, I just charge when I'm not flying. My charger tells me how many mAh it put in, so I keep a tally. I know that a 15 minute flight uses up 500mAh, so I make sure that I put that much or more back in between flights. So if I were you, I'd just charge thru the switch jack (they can take up to 3 amps), and not try to gain access to the big Deans connector.

RE: Carb fuel line
You can use the medium fuel tubing - no problem. If you're having trouble tuning the engine, I would look elsewhere. Look for bubbles in the line or other fuel delivery problem. I've never had a problem with medium fuel ine on the short connection between NV and carb.

RE: Fuel line question
If the bubbles are very few this can be normal. But if the bubbles look like they are taking up 10 or 20 percent of the volume passing through the line, then this indicates a leak. And often it is inside the tank. So check the fuel lines both inside the tank as well as from the tank to the carb.

RE: Altimeter and Air Speed Indicator???
I have had the eagletree system for over two years and it works very well. 10 times per second it sends back data from the airplane to either a small device (clipped to your antenna) or your noptebook PC (USB interface). I can see engine rpm, airspeed, altitude, battery voltage, engine temperature, and servo positions.

RE: What size is my 3W engine?
The numbers don't lie. Measuring the bore is simple enough. To measure the stroke, make sure you are measuring the cylinder at the piston high point and low point, not the length of the piston wall.

RE: What size is my 3W engine?
formula for volume of a cylinder: pi * r * r * h r = 2.2 cm h = 3.2 cm pi = 3.14 3.14 * 2.2 * 2.2 * 3.2 = 49 cc

RE: Prime cowled engine
agreed. If you can put your thumb over the muffler exit, this forces air into the tank and in turn forces fuel to the carburetor. Must do this with the starter. If you simply flip the prop a few times, there is not enough pressure in the tank to do anything. But with the starter (about 1 or 2 seconds), the engine should get fuel.

RE: Proper prop balancing
You can sand a little from the heavy side - front and back both. don't change the airfoil. usually it doesn't take too much. You can also paint the light prop with some clear paint. My experience is that the bubbles in the line are usually from a leak somewhere not from foaming duew to vibration. There can be a leak inside the tank just behind the stopper where the brass tube transitions to the tube going to the clunk.

RE: setting up dual elevator servos?
Dean - you can certainly fly your decathlon with your approach. You can get pretty close by making mechanical adjustments. On a plane like the Decathlon, if one elevator goes up (or down) a little more than the other it will still fly fine. I have a plane with one elevator on the fuselage side ABOVE the elevator (horn is on top of the elevator) and the other side the elevator servo is on the fuselage BELOW the elevator (control horn is on the bottom). I can then use a simple "Y" connector.

AMA has two levels of membership: The normal membership allows any form of power (internal combustion, jet, electric). The other form of membership is called "Park Pilot" membership. this one is limited to small electric planes and costs less.

RE: Bubbles in Fuel Line
Some times the brass tubes going thru the rubber stopper get cracked. More commonly the silicon tube gets a leak inside the tank right after the brass tubes. But you have replaced the tubing, so it should not be that.

RE: Charging 6V Rx batteries
I agree with rodney (and disagree with CGRetired). My JR wall wart chargers charge my 5-cell nimh packs to full charge. How do I know? I measure the current flowing in to the battery packs. I also discharge my 5-cell batteries and measure the capacity in mAh. They are fully charged. It does take a little longer to charge a 5-cell pack.

RE: Propeller Pitch
The varied pitch means that the prop is a 6 inch pitch near the hub (I think) and a 10 inch pitch at the tips (or vice-versa). They seem to work pretty well. I think they put the low pitch at the hub where the prop is less efficient anyway. (cowl or fuselage is in the way). 99% of the props have a constant pitch. The Vess props are an exception. They vary both the pitch and the airfoil throughout the length of the blade.

RE: 3W ENGINE PROBLEM
I had a similar problem with a 3W 100 twin. The reeds looked physically fine (no cracks, curls, splits). I replaced the entire ignition and carburetor. I put a gas tank on the ground and ran the fuel directly to the carb. I start the engine, then pick up the fuselage (wings removed) and roll the fuselage sideways and upside down. The engine drops about 500 rpm or more (Sounds like it goes rich). I sold the engine.
