RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER
Thanks flyingchef. I thought that's what needs to happen. Guess I'll need to do some fitting. Did you do anything about the raised screws on the cowl? I'm planning on flattening them out and replacing them with flat head slotted screws. It seems that there needs to be weight added to the nose anyway. I also found some #6 countersunk flat washers which look very much like the ones on the full scale Dzus fasteners.

RE: Comp ARF Spitfire build
Don't know if anyone is still following this thread, but I have a question about the engine mounting and alignment in this bird. I'm installing a DA-85 engine with a JTEC inverted pitts muffler in this project. I mounted the engine flush with the firewall with a 3/32" washer under the engine mounting lugs and I'm using a Sierra 1.5" prop hub extension. The problem I'm running into is the spinner backplate isn't even with the front of the cowl, with a very visible and singnificant gap on the right side (about 5/32" ) while the left side is about 1/16". Anyone else whose building this kit have this same issue? The problem is do I now asymmetrically mount the engine on the firewall with a wedge rather than a uniform ply plate of 3/32", or do I modify the back end of the cowl to match the engine? The latter would make the back end of the cowl asymmetrical. The former would create a right engine thrust line. Your input is appreciated. For those of you installing a full depth cockpit, how deep from the window ledge did you go? Since a full cockpit will interfere with the stock servo installation for the rudder and elevator, did anyone place them far behind the cockpit or move the whole tray in front of the cockpit.

Well let's see if you even get this after 8 1/2 years of no response. Yes I stil have my B & R Bullet Pro from 1992 or '93. It was one of my best motors when I was racing at our club track regularly. So was your dad the "B" or the "R"? Dave

RE: aeroworks qb 52
ORIGINAL: Bobt2 now, the big issue is the torque motor is a little weak in pulling out of a hover. it does it ok, but i would like a little more punch for those low level bailouts.
I looked at the manual and apparently you have to space the 2814 out so the cowling fits. You could try removing the spacers and fitting a Torque 2812. Awhile back I flew those in a 51" AJ Slick and it was just plain sick. That motor has a ton of power, and you can still use your 4s 2600 batteries, but you will need a 60 amp ESC and a 14/7 or 15/8 prop. You will get more power and because of the added vectored thrust, the plane will 3D better. The 2812 weights 177 grams, which is pretty close to an ounce more than the 130. You might have to move your battery back a little to compensate and take maybe a minute off your timer, but after that you had better hang on. When this plane first came out I figured the recommended 130 gram motors would be a little marginal. I was waiting to see someone fit a 2812 in one. I am sure it will make a completely different plane out of it.

Futaba 4PK 2.4 GHZ TX Question
I'm looking for some input on how to increase the volume of the fuel down timer on this otherwise unbelievable radio system. The problem that I have is that even in a quiet environment it's possible to not notice the very faint beep of the end of the timer. This has implications for running out of fuel at a very in opportune time. Is there any way to increase the beep volume on this radio? I don't see any provision in the otherwise extensive users' manual.

RE: Sport Flying The Extreme Flight Extra EXP
I tried to eliminate the rate switch as much as possible for this porject. A lot of sport fliers simply don't want that crazy 3D rate, and they will never use it anyway. By reducing the throw mechanically, you can use a higher rate ad still not have too much throw, and also not compromise your servo resolution. The servos travel their full range, and you get a smooth, progressive movement. The 30% expo just makes it smooth like butter. We will be doing a sport set up artice sometime late spring or summer with the new [link=http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1609303]Extreme Flight Pantera[/link]. [image]http://static.rcgroups.net/forums/attachments/2/7/9/7/2/a4406408-129-email%201.jpg[/image] This is such a sexy looking plane that I think just about every sport pilot is going to want one. Thew prototype is in a very Thunderbirds style of scheme, and while I don't know any7thing official, I am hoping it will also be available in a Thunderbirds style scheme. Either way, I will have one for extreme aerobatics, and another set up for a sport report. stay tunes, or follow my blow...... +1 on what Andy says. You want to make sure all the parts that are supposed to move freely, do so in the direction intended and with no binding. Small increments in binding compound along a linkage path. I found Finless Bobs videos and advice from local builders/ flying friends and friends at fun flys very helpful. Enjoy the build, don't rush it, make sure you get every detail right, there reall isn't anything on the bird that doesn't have a job. Enjoy! Let us know how it goes, post pictures, Andy

I am here to tell you right here and right now, you can. You can do it, and it is not even that hard. If you can fly a Park Zone T28 or something similar, you can adjust the set up on many different extreme aerobatics capable planes and turn them into really sweet sport planes. This article is aimed at you T28 pilots, and other pilots like you who are learning aerobatics, are finding the T28 a bit too easy, and want to fly something a bit more capable. You need a new challenge, and this is it. [link=http://docaustinextreme.blogspot.com/2011/05/extreme-flight-extra-expsport-pilots.html]Click Here For More[/link]

RE: Great Planes 25% Pitts M-12s 3D
I love the way this bipe performs! the LG issues were solved by installing 2 good 1/4" aircraft (5 ply) Lg mounting plates braced by (2) 7.375 x .080"Alum. L bracket ( 1.25 x 1.25 ) secured to the LG plate by the stock screws and then to the fuselage box frame by 3, 6-32 screws on each side. We're @ 5000' and it seems to sink quite fast, so I keep the landings a little fast. 17 lbs with a DLE 55. It will do 6 vertical slow rolls until I have to level off. The stock LG seems to work fine !

Best way to buy an EXP is with the power system combo. That's the same Torque 2814 and Airboss 45 ESC that I fly in all my planes. Airframe and power system is $299.99, which considering the performance and quality, is a great deal. Check my blog for comprehensive flight reports on all the Extreme Flight EXP series planes. RE: the Shakes
You do need to take the head off and check the main shaft and the feathering shaft. Especially w/ a used machine you really do want to go over it throughly. On these machines everything counts and really does have to be right. The shake is a sign something isn't straight, you HAVE to find it and replace the part. It's part of the hobby...Andy

RE: exteme flight or 3dhs extra?
I've already written a considerable amount about the Extreme Flight Extra EXP. For those who want to do a little reading, you can find multiple articles about the Extra and other EXP series planes on my blog, [link=http://docaustinextreme.blogspot.com/]Extreme Aviation[/link]
ORIGINAL: boosted180 by more ''complete'', i mean less time to build (hinges and other little items pre-installed).
The Extreme Flight planes don't have the hinges glued in, and for me that's a plus. I like to use Radio South hinges. I've been using them for 30 years so it's a little late to change now.
one of the advantage of the 3dhs is that it's a bit lighter and i'll be able to use my torque 900 motor and 2200mah 3s lipo's (instead of getting the bigger 820 motor and upgrading to 4s).
You can fly any of the Extreme Flight EXP series 48" planes on 3s as well, and I have. I prefer the fly them on 4s because they are so awesome like that, but they are still very nice on 3s.
i'm also hoping it will fly precision as well as 3d. i'm a little concerned b/c of the relatively short tail moment.
EXP's longer moment and bigger stabilizer surfaces really lock it in great for precision maneuvers. The big SFGs really lock the plane in on knife edge maneuvers. The SFGs, and the canopy being so large and sitting forward provides a lot of lift in KE too. These planes have a really solid precision pedigree. In fact, the Extra does the best precision work in the EXP lineup, though it still does awesome 3D. UTube keeps killing the sound tracks on my videos, so the ones I post there now have no music. If you prefer music videos, you can find planty of EXP videos with tunes on [link=http://vimeo.com/user714849/videos/sort:date]My Vimeo Page[/link] Here we had a window of about four minutes between when the sun went down behind the hill and there was still enough light to fly the plane. This time of year the sun is in your eyes almost all day at this field, but we wanted to fly, so we waited for that window. Compare to earlier videos and you can see that every time out with the Extra EXP I learn more and more from it. My LHS sold me Hitec servos with metal gears. More than I wanted to pay, but went for it. There hasn't been one time I've regretted it. They have held up amazingly well through too may crashes and wrecks to count without stripping the gears or failing, except one time in 4 or 5 years.
