RE: KMP New Spitfire Mk XIV
Chris, sorry to hear about your trouble, but I am sort of glad someone else had the same problem. It seems that the V2 Spits are POORLY made. I haven't had the guts to fly mine after the wing repair.... Dave

RE: KMP New Spitfire Mk XIV
I am truly sorry to hear about your Spit djay, but perhaps now there will be more reaction to my wing splitting after a normal landing. It seems there may be some issue with the quality of the wood used??

I used black gasket slicone to attach mine. It's quite easy to remove them if you have to.

RE: KMP New Spitfire Mk XIV
I thought I would post a few pics of my engine set up, cowl set up and so forth.... I have cut the cowl along panel lines so the chin can be added in two parts. The cowl is then screwed back into one piece using dome head screws. I have added guns which are screwed into the wing via a plug which is epoxyed into the leading edge. The cannon are then connected via a 6mm nylon bolt which is embeded into the base of the cannon. Dave ... still some tidying up to do... I have glassed the faulty wing with 3/4 oz glass and will recover using Solartex - when it arrives.

In addition to his fuze, I'm waiting to see what the manufacturer says about my wing. My local supplier won't do anything about it unless I get some reaction on this forum. Has anyone else had any stress fractures?

RE: KMP New Spitfire Mk XIV
Maidened my Spit today. 25 degrees celcius, light winds (slight cross wind but nothing too much to handle). We have a synthetic grass strip and two taxi-ways so it was very nice to finally get the girl off the ground. Powered by an MLD 28cc gasser swinging a 17 x 6 APC - there was plenty of power for a smooth take off run. Climbed away and retracted the gear and did a few passes to check out any kinks. After about five minutes I brought her in to land - nice landing with no bounce! (Gee that synthetic grass is great to land on). After taxiiing back and switching off I gave her a once over and to my astonishment and dismay I noticed a 450mm crack along the upper surface of the port wing from the core to the outer edge of the aileron (running along where the main spar is - SEE ATTACHED PICS!) Not very impressed and I have asked my local importer to take it up with the manufacturer and I have asked for a replacement wing.

If Andrew Kondor is reading this I have to say I'm NOT impressed that this new kit does not have any cabling for the pull pull on the rudder nor the elevator! I had to go out an buy my own.

Alan, you are absolutely correct. I'm just a bit frustrated with this kit. The first edition was much easier to put together. Dave

RE: KMP New Spitfire Mk XIV
Thanks djay, I think I'm managing to keep ahead of the game a bit. I must say I'm disappointed in the standard of the manual! This is my second kit and despite the obvious upgrades to things like getting rid of the annoying pushrods, the manual is NOT very good at all. I'm building this kit purley from experience and the information published here and on the YT website. Dave

RE: KMP New Spitfire Mk XIV
Sorry to butt in - I haven't been online for some time. Truly love your exhaust work for the RCV 120! I lost my first Spit due to overheating and loss of power despite EVERY effort to duct air into the cowl so that it cooled the SP down. IT IS IMPERATIVE you cool the RCV down or else!! My exhaust from Keleo is an amazing piece of engineering - so much so that I have bought one of the latest kits and I will be fitting a 28cc gasser in her. I will modify my Keleo exhausts so I can reuse them on the new Spit. Will post some pics when the time comes. Dave

RE: Thunder Tiger RN Sea Fury FB.11
Pete, found your vids - fantastic man!! I'm really tempted to re-paint my Sea Fury after looking at yours. I've got a KMP MkXIV Spitfire with a RCV 120SP (Keloe exhausts), and I've just picked up a Century Jet deluxe kit Mk XXIV that I'm thinking about putting a DL50 in when she's built. (Love those Spitfire wings!!. The wing is big enough to surf on I reckon!) My first excursion into gas engines is an Austars 1/4 scale Cessna 152 (98" wingspan) with an SPE 26cc gasser in it. I thought that would be a good start to get me into larger scale aircraft.

RE: Thunder Tiger RN Sea Fury FB.11
Hey Chad, Thanks for the link. It's a bit of a pity that TT didn't use the correct blue for the fuze ( I think the correct colour should be Dark Sea Grey) and the correct colour for the remainder of the fuze and under wing is almost a light grey/sea green, but I haven't been able to determine the correct colour scheme. I know when she was rebuilt and repainted for the 2007 Display Season for the RN Historcal Flight, she sported her original 802 NAS markings applied in 1948 when embarked on HMS Vengeance. The top colour was a bit darker - so I guess that's where TT got the darker blue from (still not the correct shade though). When I first got the kit I was going to re-do the paint job, but decided against it because the invasion stripes were already applied and I thought it would be too much of a hassle. Still, I think she looks nice anyway. It tokk a fair bit of mixing for me to match the colour for my VR930 patches underwing... Dave PS. Just had to chick the Spitty in too!

Hey Chris, she looks really great! Sorry I've been away for so long. I airbrushed the bottom of the wings and had a mat4e do up the decals for the VR930. Worked a treat I reckon. Dave Oops, sorry about the double post.... By the way Chris, what spinner are you using?

The picture shows a 16 x 10 3-blade. I haven't run it with that and I'm not sure I will (I had it on to see what it looked like). The 14 x 7 looks too small. I have run it with an 18 x 8 2-blade and it came in at 6500-6700RPM. Dave

RE: CMPro F4u Corsair
I have an SPE 26 gasser in mine and there is virtually no cutting at all. The only cut is to allow the extension of the exhaust clear the cowl, the remainder of the engine including carbie are inside the cowl.
