RE: UMS Evolution Radial Care and Operation
I know what you mean. I havent run my (Chase's) 7-70 yet but I have located pure Methanol in 5 gallon cans at the local industrial supply. I figure that makes it easy to cut about any fuel to get it in the range we need. It is strange how a major dist/retailer would be recommending a rather obscure and localized fuel company. Let us know if you get ahold of them.......and where they are at[:D]
ORIGINAL: Kmot How did you guys obtain your Ritch's Brew fuel? I have sent two e-mails to two different addresses listed on the Ritch's Brew website. One got returned as undeliverable, the other has never been answered.
Tom, its widely available in the Houston area but I tell ya......about 2 years ago I spent a DAY looking for thier factory and never found it. They even have a LHS and those folks didnt know squat. I have also tried to contact them with no luck. Mikes in North Dallas always has a WIDE selection of Ritch's.....I know that doesnt help you much but....[;)]

RE: UMS Evolution Radial Care and Operation
ORIGINAL: SOUTHERNX Hi Maxam,Hi nilsreinert123,thanks for your replies, the EVO35 Radial would struggle with a large bulky aeroplane like the Stinson 100 inch, but it sure would sound and look great ! Looks like I will fit the Saito FG36 or FA220, this will only require cutting a section from the bottom of that great looking 18 rocker cover cowl. The Saito200R3 will fit but swings a smaller prop at higher rpm and I don't own one of these engines.Cheers,Mark.

ORIGINAL: MAXAM Mark that plane sounds too large/heavy for this engine. Anybody else want to chime in??? -Tom

ORIGINAL: From the TBM Site The PTE-36 and the DLE-55 are two good options. The PTE-36 will make the plane a nice flier. It you want unlimited vertical and the ultimate in over-performance then the DLE-55 is a good choice.
Hard to say. Tom has a ton of experience here in the last couple of years with all sizes of radials and thier performance in flight, so its hard to go against advise like that. TBM says that 35cc class will fly it. A large scale prop on a radial (bigger than a 2 stroker) should work nicely. Or get the original specs and see what the Power/Weight ratio is supposed to be. But like most here. I am still in the building stage with no real world experience. Think I would discuss it at great length with Tom......but thats just me[;)]

RE: ASP/MAGNUM FS400AR Rebuild/Overhaul
Waldo, figure out how to pinch off the line when not in use. As for the cylinders, have you ever seen those vids of 3-4 guys propping those big Pratt and Whitney's backwards before starting? If you prop your motor backwards then the first stroke in the 4 stroke system is exhaust. This will dump excess fluids out of the bottom cylinders (IE" Oil on those big ones) Just my .02

RE: UMS Evolution Radial Care and Operation
What Tom said^^^[;)] When jumping from 2 to 3 blades or back its normal to change ONE of the prop factors but not BOTH. IE: from the 24x12 to the 22x10......you lowered BOTH dimensions. Normally you would only change ONE in order to keep your engine RPM in the same basic range and to maintain your PLF (prop load factor) say a 24x10 or a 22x12 (x3)

RE: ASP/MAGNUM FS400AR Rebuild/Overhaul
ORIGINAL: lopflyers Awesome advise, thx guys. So 5% nitro? I was thinking 15%. I also own a Moki 1.35 that idles better on 5% or no nitro.
That was spoken by a guy that lives in the UK. Nitro is difficult to get and expensive there. You need to run whatever you have. 10-15-20. You can run as much as 30 but then it gets expensive for us too. The more Nitro you run the more power it will produce and the less sensitive the needles will be. I run a generic 15% in most all of my stuff[;)]

RE: GMS Engine Tuning Problem
ORIGINAL: dhempy It would start right up into a relatively nice idle each time though .. and I couldn't get the radio to stop it .. it would just idle way way down and keep spinning (I have an idle down switch set on the radio). The prop was so slow though that a little pressure on the spinner would stop it. Dan
Sure sign of an air leak Dan. Could be anything....like you said, LSN oring, backplate, carb to block seal, etc. You know how to do a leakdown test? (Extreme cases) Take motor off, put couple feet of clean fuel tube on, finger over carb and exhaust, submerge in sink, blow, observe[:D] Minimal leaking at the front bearing is ok, major leaking is not. Good Luck. I repeat, for the new guys. I fixed mine and its a screaming monster.
ORIGINAL: nilsreinert123 Do you know what is a ideal flushing oil for the crank case ? i am using red automatic gear oil now..
Thats the thing to use Nils. It has the perfect wetting qualities that we are looking for to displace impurities and mosture and protect the interior surfaces of our engines. Castor does the same thing if you happen to be using some of it in your particular fuel mix.
