RE: Getting back in to RC's... Redcat options?
ORIGINAL: SumoRcNoob > I have read that the installation of a ''hop up'' kit will increase the top speed to approx. 90 km/hr, is this true?
I don't see how the hop up kit would do anything except make it slower. If your talking about the full hop up kit that adds the front and rear aluminum arms, you'd only be making it heavier. It does nothing to the engine or gearing so if anything, performance should be slightly less than stock. It would probably be a marginal loss, maybe even hard to tell, but very doubtfull that it would increase speed. Also, your very lucky to have a Redcat stocking shop locally. Many of us have to acquire parts on the Internet. Because of this I've built up quite a supply of backup parts, but unfortunately, half the times you still wind up needing the part you don't have on hand. A local dealer would make things a lot easier.

RE: Gas spitting from glowplug/heatsink
It's hard to imagine what the cause could be. Sounds like you've checked all possible causes. Your idea of bad threads can certainly be a possibility, but you'd think you might see some evidence of this on the glow plug threads as well. To try and eliminate this possibility you could alway order a new underhead. The last one I bought for one of my Hpi engines was only around $7, so it's worth a try.

RE: Help!! With Avalanche XTE
does the steering work? Check the trim adjustment on the radio, make sure its not bumped up and making it throttle. Try re-binding your radio. Is the radio working? Do you have green light on the radio? If not, make sure batteries are making contact. Sometimes these radios ship with the contacts too flat, try bending them out with a screwdriver if they're not making contact.

RE: Tricks and Tips to keep your Redcats running!
For you nitro guys...I always wrap my servo batteries with a rubber band. A loose battery will cause a runaway, even with a fail safe. Remember, your fail safe needs power to operate, loose a battery after a jump and get ready to start chasing your car. A carb return spring does wonders when your fail safe fails, try and rig one up out of a small spring.

RE: Does Redcat make any boats?
ORIGINAL: nitrosportsandrunner moderator or not, there are many who put down redcat cause they dont ''make'' what they sell. Sure, the big companies design their models (redcat does to a small degree) but they dont ''make'' most of the parts. Most are made over seas, just like redcat. The only big difference is that the big companies most likely assemble the models in the US. Most who bash Redcat products, are those who can afford $500 trucks. If you compare a savage to a earthquake, you wont likely want the earthqauke. But if all you can afford is the $200 earthquake, you can have as much fun as the guy who has the $500 savage. I own some traxxas, hpi, tamiyas ect along with my redcat models. But most of my redcats I bought NEW, where-as most of my big-name models I bought used cause I couldnt afford then otherwise. sure would like to see a brushless boat from redcat tho.
same opinion from me, in fact the less expensive Traxxis and Hpi models often resemble similar design and manufacture of parts. Like you said, to compare a Savage or Revo to a $300 Redcat is not really a fair fight. Redcat is what it is. Unfortunately they require a bit more hands on, which can work against a newcomer trying to learn the ropes of this hobby. If your a guy like us that likes to tinker, mod, and adjust, Redcat is a great value.

RE: Installation of new C-carriers, Drive cups
ORIGINAL: carslover Dad's in my opinion i would never use aluminum parts, the just bend, plastic is cheaper, if they break they are cheaper to replace
I tend to agree, especially when were talking about aluminum control arms. But after replacing three sets of plastic knuckles in a 10 day period, I was done with the plastic. I bought the aluminum knuckles and they've been on the truck now for 14 months. They've never bent and the screws have never stripped out. Now when you look at the plastic suspension on my Monsoon, there is a world of difference. In fact the only parts I break on it are the metal ones, the plastic parts are rock solid.

RE: Volcano EXP Pro vs. Caldera 10E
i would have said the same as the posts above. You really can't go wrong with either. To me, the larger size of the Caldera which is basically a shrunk down earthquake is what makes it stand out. I also think it can handle a little more abuse than the Volcano. The only thing that I really don't like about the Volcano is having 8 shocks. If you like to make changes to your suspension, 8 shocks is a hassle to me when it comes time for fluid changes or just maintenance in general.

RE: help with Hurricane XTE
ORIGINAL: slhutch i don't know what a correct pinion lash feels like,
Your pinion lash is almost like your spur gear lash. Check the movement between the pinion and ring gear. If its too loose or too tight it will wear the gears. Rock it back and forth like a spur gear and add or subtract shims as needed to get it where it fits best.
any clicking, buzzing from the servos when you power on? Make sure the battery connection is good, cheap plug...sometimes needs to be jiggled. Make sure your batteries are tight in the battery holder. Always wrap a rubber band around them. Also, is the light on the radio? Wouldn't be the first one to lose battery connection. Sometimes you need to gently pry the battery tabs out a little on the radio to make good contact. Then if all thats good try re-binding the radio.

RE: help with Hurricane XTE
ORIGINAL: slhutch i need help with the diff's gears & pins on the hurricane. this will the 3rd time for the rear and the 2nd for the front. i use oil in them and put them in the correctly. is there a upgrade for this part#85736
The torque on the brushless models is very high especially if you've upgraded your lipo's to a high C rated battery. Even under ideal pinion setup your driving style could be one of the causes of failure. You said you put them in correctly, does that mean you've tried adding or reducing shims until you felt the pinion lash is correct? If your just replacing your diff gears with the amount of shim that came with it, it may not be correct now. The diff cases can stretch, the bearings can wear and provide more slop in the pinion shaft. Make sure you've thoroughly inspected all of these areas and not just the gears themselves. Also, about driving style, make sure your rolling on the throttle and not just grabbing full throttle every chance you get, even my son's Caldera 10e running on 2s will eat the gears running ths way. That also goes for slamming on brakes all the time, skidding sideways looks cool but chomps your gears also. Then last but not least, are you landing jumps throttle off? Landing under load will also destroy your gears sooner than later.

RE: tornado S30 weird issue
ORIGINAL: JohnP2 This really helps. My Forza is our ''experimental'' car. I also have a Losi 810, OFNA Hyper 7, and Savage X 4.6 (arriving tomorrow). In the seven months I've been into ''the hobby'', I've learned wrenching is my favorite aspect and love to rebuild and keep all components like new! See our YouTube channel (link below) for a taste of the types of maintenance my 11-year old son and I employ in our rides. Before getting into any of the ''intimidating'' aspects of maintenance (engine cleaning, transmission rebuild, differential maintenance, etc) our protocol is to try it first try it on our Forza so as to learn from our mistakes - as they always happen - due to the fact I don't run the Forza much and have patience for it being benched while we learn. Consequently, it's great to have a car such as this to learn from, and consultation such as yours on the diff rebuild is very much appreciated! I have to rebuild the transmission on our Forza (again),  as it has the same symptoms as the OP (the one-way bearing on the first-speed spur gear is acting up). There is not much intel available to the masses on differential maintenance for these parts, and your expertise on these parts is quite rare (for a non Redcat/Exceed employee). ;-) Thanks!
No problem John, keep wrenching. I'm trying to teach my 9 year old how these things work. Your Forza is a great way to figure things out. Believe it or not, replacing the spur in a two speed center drive can be tough. Not so much technically, but physically separating the spur from the slipper clutch can sometimes be "challenging". Pretty straight forward when you pop it out and look at it, but sometimes trying to compress the slipper clutch spring enough to remove the pin can just be a pain in the neck. Like I said earlier, everybody gets a little twitchy the first time they think they have to take the gears out of the front or rear magic boxes, but once you do it, you'll find it's no big deal.
ORIGINAL: JohnP2 This is great information. I have not touched the diffs yet (probably the only part) on my Exceed Forza, and appreciate the intel on how to maintain them, Thanks!
no problem. The diffs are probably the one of the most intimidating parts of the car second only to needle adjustment. Really simple stuff once you get one in your hand and tear it apart. Biggest problem is getting some of them out. A little hint, many of the diffs do not have to be removed to service or replace the gears. A lot of times you can just remove enough to take the top off and then just lift the gears out of the diff housing.

RE: tornado S30 weird issue
ORIGINAL: Shady9503 Â Just wondering, when i change my diffs what kind of grease does redcat put in there? is it oil or just grease because i know theres differntly weighted diff fluids, i just bash no racing and ive found the stock grease fine. thanks!
The diffs usually come dry meaning a small wipe of thin grease on the inner planetary and out ring gear is all you get. Since the Tornado diffs are not sealed, you don't want to get carried away on the ring gear lubrication. A small amount of lithium grease will keep things lubed. Even with this you'll notice some grease blending from the diff cups but just wipe it off when your going over your buggy. As far as the inner gears go, for general playing around you can fill them up with the same lithium or of you want them to lock up a little more you can add 10.000 weight fluid. Some people like to mix and match their diff fluids like heavier in the rear so the diff is locked up more and lighter in the front for better cornering and climbing. I think for running around the yard just making sure you have some grease in them will be fine just to keep them from wearing.
