RE: Beginner needs help
While your here why not see if your son is interested in RC planes. We as a group would love to see a new person in the hobby. Lots of clubs in Cal. Go to the AMA site and find a club close to you and take him out one Sunday. If his eyes light up he's in. Plenty of people willing to help. Dennis

RE: Beginner needs help
Nikkos radio system is hard soldered whereas RC systems are plugin type. Unless you find someone who has the same car and channel number they are un repairable. Best of luck in your search. Dennis

RE: AR6200 failure, Possible?
I question the switch. If you had to cycle the switch that many times it may be a bad switch. Did you have the fail safe set? Dennis

RE: Building Stealth UAV
Under AMA guidelines you can't fly the plane beyond eyesight. UAV flying in the US requires a pilot lic. The radio equipment along would be $10,000 for a UAV. Look for something else. Dennis

RE: Ok time for suggestions
Brand or price is not your first choice. Remember if you buy on price only and later want more radio the best you can do is get back half. In fairness you must add that to the price of the new radio. The number of planes in the memory is unimportant. it's the computer power and channels that increase the price. For example. My GS planes are really only 4 channel planes, but I use all 9 channels and up to four mixes. My jet uses 9 channels and several match boxs as well. Will you ever own these type of planes? Maybe not now. I said at one time I wouldn't either,, but here I am. My advice is to buy the most you can afford now and not have to do it later. You will grow into the radio and use more of it's capabilties as time goes by. All the radio's play good together. Pick one and have fun learning what it can do. On my new plane I'll have 15 servo's and a smoke system. Wish I had a radio for each servo. Dennis

RE: How much longer will 72mhz be around?
For the pilots that travel to a lot of events 72 is already dead. The JoNall next year will ban 72. At Ky Jets this year out of 112 pilots only 4 where on 72. It all depends on if you travel or not. As a LHS owner I won't even buy used 72 and I don't carry any 72 receivers anymore. A used plane that has a 72 radio in it adds no value to the planes price. Dennis

RE: Dual batteries with a Spektrum Rx
All 2.4 radios can "brown out" if your batteries are not maintained. I use A-123's in all my GS and jets and yes I do use two battery systems as discribed above. But not for the reason of brown outs. The two battery system is for switch or battery failure. A single battery at 6v with a large enough Ma will work fine if you watch your Ma use and keep the battery charged up. 2.4 will not tolerate bad battery care. Dennis

RE: maintaining the vitality of a club
We have buddy boxes at our club and sometimes someone will box a person on their plane. But don't ask them to teach you how to fly without your own stuff. Laying out the money shows a comment to the hobby and the risk of damage is on you. I have a flight sym in the store that a new person can use for free and the training at the field is free. Dennis

RE: MDS engines???
Even tho there are those rare people that had good luck with MDS, has a whole they were very bad engines. They had no mid range and many dead sticks. I know I tried to help Horizon with the RD after the fact with many different carbs with no luck. The engines were recalled. It was a a shame too because these engines were a power house at full throttle. Dennis

RE: Ready to maiden?...HELP
I don't mean to fault people in their opinions, but someone buys a good radio with the functions to do want he wants and he's told forget it. The dx-7 can also have two channels for the ailerons. This give him diff and expo. Y-harnesses are just a another point of failure. Ask me why i don't use a 4 channel with y's in my jets or why my GS planes use 12 channels to fly a 4 channel 40% plane with 11 servos. But that just me. I also like power steering and air in my car too. O yes and power brakes, and the GPS so i don't get lost. I never did like looking at a map. And my wife said i wouldn't ask directions. Dennis
