Just picked up Losi Micro High Roller... It's cool!
I am a micro fan. My kids and I love running these in the house. When I heard about the Micro High Roller I had to get one. All of our Micros (Desert, Baja and Micro-T) have 2S lipos and I picked one up for this truck also. I am charging as we speak. I can't wait to run it. I was surprised that Losi took the time to really differentiate this chassis from the others. It has the same wheelbase as a Desert, but it is a bit taller and the motor plate is flipped so the motor is higher. The old micros checking the newb out... [image]http://www.intergate.com/~rpurcell/rcu/fleet/micro_highroller1.JPG[/image] Money shot... [image]http://www.intergate.com/~rpurcell/rcu/fleet/micro_highroller2.JPG[/image] Compared to a micro desert [image]http://www.intergate.com/~rpurcell/rcu/fleet/micro_highroller4.JPG[/image] I will post more after I charge it up and cruise it around.

RE: What kind of tires/wheels are these?
Those are IMEX tires that have been cut and reglued... IMEX Baja's for T-Maxx to be specific. They look to be glued on stock Maxx size rims. [image]http://www.imexrc.com/catalog/IMX7403.jpg[/image] Different, yes. Cool, IMO, no.

RE: Losi's new 1/18th Desert Buggy!
Scale buggies are the next big trend. I would expect scale buggies to be the next big thing since the scale trophy trucks are doing so well. This is the first of many more to follow. I always wondered how 1/8 buggies ended up looking the way they did as opposed to looking like real desert buggies. I guess it was for performance. I suspect that within 1-2 years, all major manufacturers will have scale buggy designs based off of their existing platforms. It only makes sense. People love the scale stuff and there will be a 1/10 scale scale buggy class running before or after the Slash class across the U.S. I think Losi could have done better with proportions here, but it's cool. This is the next thing for RC, watch.

RE: new baja 5b body
[quote]ORIGINAL: quarterscalelegends The BEST way is to use a exacto knife. You mark the outside with a sharpie then you score the plastic with the knife. You do not go all the way through. Then you just take the end and tear away. This is by far the most superior way of trimming bodies. Very clean and extremely fast. [/quote] Hmmm, I have to challenge this as the 'superior way'... I don't think this method will work as good on curved parts of the body where there isn't a straight angle? I have always used curved scissors with great success.

If I am being completely honest, curved lexan scissors are the only way to go. Every hobby store will have some. I wouldn't use anything else. [image]http://www2.gpmd.com/image/p/pror6030.jpg[/image]

RE: Can I trust frankexport889@163.com from China Newstyle Vehicles Manufacturing Corp.
Words of wisdom there... Think about what you will spend to get the trucks reliably through a known distributor versus getting them a little cheaper from an unknown vendor. Think about that cost compared to losing all of your money. My recommendation is, spend the extra $$$ and get them from a safe place or be prepared to lose your $$$. I don't know why someone would offer HPI clones side by side with the real deal. Sounds a little fishy to me.

Thanks Wicked... We are our worst critics. The stock 5T body is kind of my shelf queen and never been ran. The Desert Rat is my basher body and holding up well- [image]http://www.intergate.com/~rpurcell/rcu/5b_SS/5T_RunJuly30_05.JPG[/image] This body is going in the basher queue. [:D]

The good news is, that when a body doesn't turn out, it makes me want to beat the crap out of it, so it is a new basher body although a very expensive one...

New Proline 5T body painted. I hate painting 1/5 scale bodies...
I am not too happy with this one. I think for these bodies, it is just better to play it safe. I like the flames and the front, but the rest of the body didn't come together for me. I should have left it all black. RE: HPI 5T Made in USA or China??
[quote]ORIGINAL: Foxy It's funny, I've noticed lately, that people (ie noobs coming from other scales), not only think the 5B is the only 5th scale, but also that it's the best. I just love the look on their faces when I point out that the 5b costs less than 1/3rd the price of a real gas racer. lol. Nothing against the 5B, HPI knows exactly what market it's aiming for, just funny what some people seem to think. Increasingly on youtube videos as well, whenever the word Baja is mentioned, even on FG vids, some little plank pipes up to say 'that's not a baja', and of course the usual accompanying swearing. Little muppets. :) [/quote] I have a couple of things that sprung up in my mind as a result of this post. First, I think people think it is the only 1/5 scale because it is the only one you will ever see in 95% of Hobby Shops here in the U.S and the 5B/T dominates almost all of the RC Magazine 1/5 coverage. There are Baja Nationals, Dunetoberfest and a growing number of 1/5 Baja related events. HPI has a very deep and wide distribution channel, much more than the other 1/5 scale manufacturers. I can go into any LHS and see a 5B or 5T on display. I have never seen a single other 1/5 scale in any hobby shop, and this is from coast to coast. Actually, now to think of it, I have never seen a single other 1/5 scale in person other than the 5B/5T and I am knee deep in this hobby. I am not sure about Europe, but the 5B/T platform has done more for the mainstreaming and popularization of 1/5 scale in the U.S. than any other platform to date. So, I can understand why people have this viewpoint to be honest. No other platform has done for 1/5 scale what the 5B has done. I would love to see more 1/5 scale platforms mainstream with the same market penetration that the 5b/t has and hopefully that happens. Competition and selection is good. From that perspective, I think you can understand peoples' biased opinions. [quote]I just love the look on their faces when I point out that the 5b costs less than 1/3rd the price of a real gas racer. lol.[/quote] I am not sure how price determines a real gas racer to be honest. That may have been a sarcastic comment... [:)]

RE: best way to lighten up an RTR buggy?
There really isn't a whole lot you can do. The biggest bang for the buck would be to get more power, e.g. new motor and/or new tuned pipe. So, instead of fighting to shave grams off of the car which may or may not be noticed, a motor and/or pipe is adding HP which will have a much larger effect. I have seen Xtreme RC articles and other that show amazing gains in stock motors just by adding tuned pipes. That is probably what I would do.

RE: NIMH Lost a lot of capacity how come?
Actually, running a pack down to 600mAh from 1600mAh (37% of the batteries capacity) is probably about right. NiMH batteries voltage doesn't stay constant; their voltage drops as the batteries discharge. Your car will stop running when the FETs aren't getting enough juice, not when the battery fully discharges. These two events may not be related. At 600mAh capacity, the cells' voltages may only be .5 volt under a 10A load (5w power) instead of the .8-.9V under a 10A (8-9W) load when the battery is freshly charged. The more efficient the ESC and drivetrain, the lower voltage it can use. Conversely, if you put on larger tires or put on taller gears, this will also effect the power needed by the motor necessary to turn the tires. you can cycle the NiMH and see if you can get its capacity up but I think it is probably about right.

RE: Losi 8T understeer off power
Have you properly set up the end point adjustments for the servo and all of the linkages? What steering servo are you running? What do you have for toe-in? You can also play around with the steering ackerman for more off power steering. Usually guys ask how to get more on power steering, it isn't often for people to ask for more off power steering.

I have run the Zippy Flightmax 1600mAh 3S and the Turnigy 1600mAh 2S in my vxl Slash. No complaints with either. The 2S fits fine, the 3S needed a little trimming on the battery door.
