RE: OFFICIAL Redcat Racing TRUCK thread
Thanks ehroof I knew you guys would know what it's called, I'll follow up with wade or someone that has a link to their website.

RE: OFFICIAL Redcat Racing TRUCK thread
So I figured out my question from above....as far as why all 4 of my tires do not rotate at the same speeds.....Go figure I'm completly missing the linking arm on my front right tire. now the big question what exactly is this part "called" It's a long slender bar that runs from the inside tire to chassis of the car, fits like a ball and socket connection. Obviously I'll need to replace it and was curious if anyone knew the exact name so I could look it up and order one (or 2 or 3!) just so I have some spares. The thing that concerns me is if my truck even had one to start with? That doesn't seem like a piece that could easily just fall out. As always thanks in advance!

RE: OFFICIAL Redcat Racing TRUCK thread
Yes, I've picked it up, and looked at it while holding it in my hand (just like up on a block of wood). It does appear the rear tires rotate at a much much much faster rate than the front tires. Possibly just tightening down the axle holders will fix this? no tinkering on the rear tires, just the front? As always thanks for the help guys!

RE: OFFICIAL Redcat Racing TRUCK thread
Does anyone have any ideas to look at or check to see if all 4 wheels are spinning with the same speed or even if at all? It really appears that the back 2 tires have all the power and the front two tires seem to only spin at a fraction of the speed of the rear ones. I do have a Redcat Volcano and it appears it's been doing this from day one. Thanks for any advice/feedback.

RE: Stripped Gear Perhaps?
Excellent Idea FlyinGN, would save alot of time troubleshooting as well if that is the case... I'll be sure to try that tonite, when I fly back in town.

RE: Stripped Gear Perhaps?
I will play around with the servo tomorrow night when I get back from traveling and let you guys know what I found out. It doesn't move the arm at all when I break, so it sounds like that might be the issue, based on what a few of you have offered. As always Thanks! and I'll keep you all posted.
ORIGINAL: Clermont Hobby I know it has nothing to do with it but he posted this I went back to the house, tried a few restarts and couldn't get it to sit idle, it would just run off like it did out of the box.
Not sure what you mean here? I was stating that out of the box I couldn't get it to sit idle....just like now, of course its much worse now, that I can't break to control the car from rolling forward. Before I just adjusting the inching screw and tweaked the controller a hair to prevent this. Now by hitting the break or tweaking the Transmitter I see no adjustment on the bar that would close the carburator to "idle" the truck. Hope that helps!

RE: Average Runtimes - Volcano
Turns out it was about an 1/8th of a turn to lean....tweaked that, then tweaked my idle accordingly and everything runs great. Thanks for the help guys....you all rock

RE: Stripped Gear Perhaps?
Batteries are actually under 1 day old, but I just tried some fresh charged ones and same problem. How would I tell if its a bad clutch spring? I think I might try to pop off the servos and check that out.....unfortantly I'm going to be traveling the next two days for work, so I won't have a definite answer to quick, was just looking to possibly order some parts up front if this sounded like a common issue. Thanks for your suggestions guys!

Stripped Gear Perhaps?
Pretty new to Nitro cars, I have a Volcano and was on about my 12th tank, working really well, finally took it out in the dirt fields behing my house, roughed it up alittle, nothing major though (no jumps, just a few tips) and it got stuck pointing straight up trying to "climb" out of a bulldozer rut, I went and put it back on path and I notice it was running alittle higher sounding than normal, and the break doesn't respond. I raced it by me in which I grabbed it threw a cloth over the muffler and killed it. I went back to the house, tried a few restarts and couldn't get it to sit idle, it would just run off like it did out of the box. I pulled off the air filter (with the truck turned off) and watched the carburator open on full throttle but it wouldn't close on break. Is this a stripped gear? no matter what I do (turning idle screw, or on the controller changing the idle setting it doesn't move the arm to control the carburator. Thanks for any feedback!

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread
The clutch bell mentioned above, what material is it made out of? I know the stock one is Aluminum which is way to weak.

RE: Average Runtimes - Volcano
Thanks for all the links...I think I'll try to run it another 7-10 tanks and then make a decision....to bad I'm helping a friend replace a roof this weekend, my playtime will be even less :( I'll keep you all posted on the outcome.

RE: Average Runtimes - Volcano
Yes, I was thinking ballpark of 200 and I will be happy. When it was running at 165, it seemed sluggish with a much lower pitch on the engine at full throttle. Now (as of last night) when it was running around 185 it had much more acceleration, faster top speed, and the engine was more of a standard "Whine" sound, I think just alittle more tweaking and it will be set. Now to read up on replacing the clutch parts mentioned above :)

RE: Average Runtimes - Volcano
The truck seems to be running much better, I only had the time to put 2 tanks of gas thru it last night, but they were lasting much longer (didn't time them though to be sure how long). I did lean out the intake and I do appear to have a faster speed, and the engine is still running in the 180 range, perhaps I'll go alittle leaner tonite and see what happens to the temp. 200ish is the "good" range correct? I will need to adjust my idle just a tad more, at the end of the runs a brake for longer than 3 seconds would kill the engine again, but thats a simple fix (or should be). I'll check on the mods you guys are talking about, thats all new to me, thanks for the links to the parts if I go that route. What benifit am I gaining by replacing the clutch bell/springs?

RE: Average Runtimes - Volcano
Awesome I'll try that tonite, I'm leaving work in about an hour, I'll post what happens :) Just incase others have questions like mine and are wondering. The only changes out of the box I'm thinking about adding is a kill switch, just incase I get out of range, and "maybe" an electric start, I don't mind the pull start, but I hear alot of people complaining that they just don't last to long. We shall see!

RE: Average Runtimes - Volcano
Perfect, I'll be turning that back in. As far as the car from idle dieing when the brakes are applied, I assume is just an improper fuel balance into the carburator? That should work itself out as I lean out the engine.

RE: Average Runtimes - Volcano
Excellent thanks for the input, thats the fun of the hobby, tweaking your engine to gain good performance, I just wish there was some more documented tips/tricks for true newbies like myself for the redcat trucks. I purchased the redcat truck as a "cheap" beginner truck with the intent of anywhere from 6 to 12 months later buying a larger namebrand truck if this doesn't live up to my expectations, although it would be even better if it does. I wasn't aware you can tune it on high speed vs low speeds I'll have to look into that. I was making changes by turning the screw counterclockwise (unscrewing it) and now as it sits idle, if I hit the brake it will die in about 1-2 seconds. Does this mean its to lean? or purhaps a different tweak? it didn't do that prior to unscrew the gold screw on the engine.

RE: Average Runtimes - Volcano
It's 5 full tanks from the box. I just started giving it alittle throttle on the 3rd tank, and by the 5th I was doing full throttle for about 3-4 seconds at a time. I would adjust the gold looking screw on the engine to make it more lean correct? in about 18th to 1/4th turns at a time, or is there an easier way? that seems to be more efficient.

RE: Average Runtimes - Volcano
Thanks I was hoping that was the case, but was unsure since I'm new to the hobby. I'll try to fiddle with the engine tonite and see what happens, I'll keep you posted. Also if anyone else has any feedback it would be appreciated!

Average Runtimes - Volcano
Hi all, Just started the RC hobby and purchased a Redcat Volcano, i'm 5 tanks in with no issues as of yet, temperatures are good. The only thing that concerns me is that my average run time seems to be about 4-5minutes. Since I'm only 5 tanks in, it hasn't been really ran at full throttle or as a "hard" pace. I was just curious if there are tips/tricks to get better runtimes, and what the average seems to be? Purhaps I just need to get a larger fuel tank? Thanks for any advice!
