ORIGINAL: chuckk2 Add counter rotating engines and propellers ??
I don't think these little $43 engines come in a counter rotating version and RCCA Combat Class 2948 requires MA 8x3 props on all .15 size engines which only come in one version. I really don't think it is needed as I have flown it with one engine successfully.
ORIGINAL: mgnostic Do you have a picture that shows fuel tank placement?
There are no fuel tanks. I run bladders on all my combat airplanes......bladder compartment is under wing saddle area in the wing and can be seen in the pic above of the wing before covering

Thanks Andy. A Mossy would be cool however the DeHav Hornet is probably as close as I will get. I will build a P-38 at some point just because of the cool factor. My next will be another 410.....It flies too dang good,

Application of Sign Vinyl on Warbirds
I was asked do a short tutorial on my method for applying vinyl on Warbirds. Sign vinyl is a great covering for Warbirds, however making the end result look good and smooth can be a challenge. I won't get too much into applying to the wing as it is really simple. On a wing I cut the covering about an inch longer and wider than the area to be applied. I do half of each side at a time. Spray panel with glue, remove the backing and lay covering down on a table sticky side up and then lower the wing panel down onto the vinyl,....... then flip it over and smooth out the wrinkles with my hand . I then trim the vinyl to lap over the edges cutting slits to allow for complex curves such as wing tips. After all covering is applied then use a heat gun and a cotton glove on your hand to rub the surface to really make the vinyl shrink down into the pores of the foam. It takes very little heat and a second too long will melt the vinyl. Experiment with a scrap pice to get the feel for how long to apply the heat. Warbird fuselages can be a bit more difficult, in fact you can invent new cuss wirds while fighting with the vinyl if the proper procedure is not followed. Since fuse's are mostly round and have complex curves, getting a full sheet of vinyl to wrap around it is impossible. I cut the covering into 3" strips the length of the area to be covered. On most fuses I cover half length at a time. Spray foam with glue and starting on the front on one side start applying vinyl. The shorter narrow pieces make it more manageable and seams are not a problem as this stuff really sticks to itself well and no fuel leakage should occur. Continue with the other side, then work your way back, cutting as many relief slits in the edges of the vinyl that it takes to eliminate wrinkles. Relief slits are very important for a wrinkle free job. Don't be afraid of cutting as many as you think it needs in order to lay flat. After sides are on next do the bottom. I just cut the piece to be applied in the shape of a long narrow triangle.....same goes for the top which is done last. If you have some trouble spots, get out the heat gun and glove and work them down before you proceed. To get a perfect job takes time and patience but it can be done. My last build only had a couple of small wrinkles that were easily smoothed out with a heat gun. I don't have any pics, but maybe on the next warbird build I will snap a few and post um up then.

Oracal 64 sign vinyl is available fom signwarehouse.com They have a plenty of colors to choose from so finding a color to make you new warbird come to life should not be a problem,,,,and the best part is NO PAINTING and fuel proof.

Maiden: AUW 4# , 2 ASP .15's turning 17.5K on 15% Byron. Flew out of hand. No pitch, no launch, no nuthin. Just droppped the airplane and straight away she went. Perfect flying airplane with zero bad tendancies.....best flying warbird I've ever built. CG was spot on. Turns tight and because it is at min weight it loses no more speed in the turns than my mustangs..... turns almost as tight. On 100% elevator throws it will loop till you get tired of looping. Glide is like a SSC bird. To say I'm "happy, happy, happy" is an understatement.

ME-410 Build
Next project is the ME-410 Hornet. It will be RCCA Class 2948 Scale Combat legal with 60" wingspan and two ASP.15 swinging MA 8x3's for power I have to admit that I am quite taken by twins. They require the extra mile, but the end product is well worth it. Making minimum weight of 4 # is a challenge but even at almost 5 # these birds fly great. I just completed the British version of the Hornet and now the Luftwaffe's turn. :D I used the metal template method employing a printed scale drawing glued to a shaped aluminum template pattern. I then used my hotwire "scroll saw" table to cut the fuse and nacelles by following the edges of the aluminum template. I used a carbon fiber arrow shaft for strength in the fuse, hotwired some ligthening holes and glued together with gorilla glue......very strong and very light. The nacelles are foam with arrow shaft and HDPE engine mount.....ready to glue. RE: 2948 Dehavilland Hornet Build
Maiden flight successful! AUW 4#12 oz. 2-ASP's peaking 17.5K rpm 10% Byron CG 30% Very nice airplane to fly. No bad characteristics whatsoever. No snapping. Perfect glide with no tip stall tendancies. We have a winner. Turns as tight as my mustangs but not as fast on the straight away. I think that as the engines loosen up I can get close to 18.5 peak which should improve speed performance. The bladder and stock needle valves held the setting spot on for flawless runs. I also adjusted the CG for subsequent flights which should result in even tighter turns. Coming to an event near you :D

RE: 2948 Dehavilland Hornet Build
I ordered two ASP .15 engines from Hobby Partz and installed with 2 1/2" spinners. I broke them in on the airplane and every run they got better and better. I am running a bladder and I was concerned that the stock needle valves would not hold a needle like the older magnums were famous for. After several runs they seem to be holding spot on. I am very pleased with the ASP's and for the money, even if they are throwaways, I'm still ahead. Ready for maiden tommorrow morning provided the wind will get below 30mph! After maiden, I'll pull and install coke bottle cowls.

Recieved my covering which is Oracal 641 sign vinyl and covered the wing.....Covering this huge wing added 5 oz. Per my covering weight comparisons, vinyl weighs 10 grams per sq ft, and 2.6 mil tape weighs 6 grams per sq ft. Next will be to add ailerons, cut in wing servos and install engines. RE: Which battery pack for Battle Axe?
I can't answer the flat or square pack question, but I use 2/3 AAA 400 mah flat packs from cheapbatterypacks.com on all my combat birds that weigh about an ounce. I did however order some of these for my Open B ships and they have yet to arrive. LiFe 6.6 v 700 mah and weighs about an ounce and a half. Cost less that 3 bucks. I know of several combat flyers using this pack with good results. [image]http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/catalog/14075.jpg[/image]

RE: (how to?) Phencepost Combat plane from Hattrickrc.com
I use single di reinforcing tape on the leading edge and trailing edge and one strip of 2" bidi over the spar, and a 10" section over the root joint. Bidi can make a wing really heavy really fast. For covering, a low temp film or acrylic packing tape(overlapping starting back to front) is good, however alot of guys are going to the Avery A-6 sign vinyl with good results. I would think that duct tape is too heavy to use as a covering.....tough but heavy. 3lbs before fuel is a good rule of thumb. Almost all my Open B ships are about 3 lbs.....Ive got a couple of Russian wings that will go 2.5 but they are not as durable.

The fence post design is fairly straight forward. Pics here: http://www.hattrickrc.com/phencepostpics.html Fuse pic [image]http://www.hattrickrc.com/sitebuilder/images/100_0779-600x454.jpg[/image] If I remember right it is not all that different from the Battleaxe from Treneffrc.com The fencepost uses a plastic electric fence post from Tractor supply for the fuse. The Battleaxe uses twin alum rails. If you can't get hold of Mike at Hattrick here visit the Treneffrc site and view the battleaxe build instructions. Also vist the RCCA combat site for tons of info. http://rccombat.com/

OzMo In our area SSC is still the most popular class, and I'm pretty sure it is nationwide.
