ORIGINAL: acerc I would go with the Guardian. Put it on a switch and run it in 3D mode in general. If you get into trouble or get disoriented switch to the 2D mode and the plane will return to straight and level flight.
Thanks. I ordered one today.

RE: Improving stability
I selling off all my giant stuff and sticking to flying foamies now. Trouble is they flit and flirt and are too unstable for my aging reflexes. I've already crashed one that got away from me. What stabilizer would be better: the BL-3GRC, or the Eagle Tree Guardian? They're both about the same price on Amazon.

Talked to the SIG guys at the Toledo show last year and the year before about the possibility of the 4*40 arf coming back. Both times they assured me it was coming back soon. This year I didn't bother to ask.

YS120SF Needs Help
I have an early model YS 120SF that has been sitting around for a few years and now needs help to be revived. It ran strong when I put it away years ago, but now it won't start unless I force feed fuel to it, and then only for a couple of seconds. I replaced the fuel pump diaphragm. The check valve and fuel filter seem to be working OK. Is there someplace I could send it for a thorough checkout and repair if needed?[:o]

I had a Dirty Birdi back in the 70's and a KAOS, too. Both were incredibly easy to fly....they go where you point them, fast or slow, absolutely rock steady. Easier to fly than trainers, IMHO.

I still keep my old LT-40 around to polish up my skills a bit in the Spring. I use all Hitec standard servos with an Aurora 9 XMTR w/o a problem ever. My engine is an Enya 40BB. Plenty of power and super reliable.

My basement is full of old kits, some NIB, some partially built. Engines, too. I'd sure like to get rid of some. I'll have to take inventory and make a list.[:@] Here's a partial: Ziroli Stearman (77" Custom Cut), Balsa USA 1/3 J3 (L wing built), Barkley 1/4 Tigermoth, Midwest G202, Goldberg Tiger 60 (wing built), Byron Hellcat (lots done), Midwest T-6, Lanier Sport P-51, Lanier 40 sized Stinger, and on and on. I can't think of them all. I guess I'll start listing them on the Buy-Sell forum if anybody's interested. I've lost interest and my wife will probably toss them in the dumpster when I pass on anyway.[&o]

RE: Model Airplane News, then and now.
While most of my peers have gone on to giant scale, gasoline powered ARFs, I've stayed with kit or scratch built 40 - 60 size glow models. They're the most satisfying for me because 1) they don't cost much, 2) they're easy to transport, 3) they're still fun to fly, and 4) they give me something fun to do during the cold winter months. As for MAN.....well, what can I say. They've moved on with the rest of my peer group.

Which half is it? Remember, I have an extra right stab/elev half I could send you if you need it. Yea! Got my Robart gear this morning. Wheels, tank, fittings and operating valve came too, but no line or instructions. I guess they figure you don't need instructions since installation pretty straight forward. I don't know why they didn't send any air line. Maybe that's something you have to determine for each model and order separately, don't know. I got some gray foam tubing too, what's that for? After inspection, I'm not going to cut the nose gear either. I'll just live with it. I'm not going to Top Gun this year anyway.

RE: KMP T-28C
I don't have my gear yet, but from what I've seen in photogs the Robart nose gear is not even close to being scale. Likes Line makes a scale looking nose gear, but it costs like the dickens. I was thinking of modifying the nose gear if I ever get it by sawing it off just above the scissors and off-setting it from the main strut with brazing. This might not be practical...I'll have to wait and see what can be done.
ORIGINAL: cloud_master What servos are you guys going to run for the flaps and ailerons? I was looking at either the Futaba S3305 or the Hitec 645MG. Anybody know if you can order electric Robart Retracts for the T-28? I see Robart advertising generic electric retracts in MAN now. I should've asked the guy when I talked to him yesterday.[:@] My original order was for air retracts/wheels, and air system, but I'd gladly trade up for electric retracts.

RE: Why Beginners Do Not Want To Join Clubs
This really depends on the club. Some are very nubee friendly, others not so much. In my area, I finally found the ONE club out of four that was genuinely nubee friendly and stuck with them ever since. Special features are: 1) Reasonable short list of rules, 2) Many qualified, willing and able instructors, 3) Field free from neighbor harassment, and 4) inexpensive annual fee. Prima donnas do show up occasionally and try to dominate, but they soon realize they aren't appreciated and drift off to one of the other clubs in the area.

RE: Do you think the FAA should be sticking its nose into our hobby?
I can't begin to tell you how much I resent the government sticking it's nose into all aspects of our lives. The FAA has made aviation so expensive with their never-ending attempts to make it risk-free, that I can no longer afford to own and fly my own airplane. Soon, I won't be able to afford to own and fly an RC airplane if they have their way. I am hoping a major change comes to this country soon and many of these innumerable, over-reaching alphabet regulatory agencies are either defunded or drastically reorganized.

RE: Best of the Chinese electric plane manufacturers
I really like the Durafly 1100mm (~43" wingspan) Warbird series currently sold by HobbyKing out of Hong Kong. Yes, they're foamies, but they are surprisingly detailed, accurate scale, and feature retracts, flaps, and nav lights. All you need to do is glue on the tail feathers, plug in your receiver and LiPo, and they are ready to go. They fly very well, are relatively durable, and are priced cheaper than dirt. In most cases, they are stocked in a USA warehouse, so you don't have to wait for shipping all the way from China. I have the T-28 and P-51 and think I will order the Corsair, P-47 and Spitfire later this year. They're always coming out with new models, so I want to eventually acquire the entire WWII warbird series.
