RE: Extreme Flight Vanquish 2m Build Thread
You could cut the post off and have a thin strip joiner on top wit a couple of screws in each end. Even I could do it and I am a hopeless builder
ORIGINAL: lee101 can someone help me measure the plane length with out the rudder? i hope it will fit into my car with a removable rudder.
I make it about 1800 from tip of spinner to start of rudder. You do realize there is a fixed rudder "top bit". I guess that could be made removable and just screwed bac in. It's only small light and mostly decorative.

RE: Extreme Flight Vanquish 2m Build Thread
Tested the neu f3a motor with jeti 90 esc and a falcon prop. I was concerned about whether the jeti would be a good fit with the neu. Happy to say no problems so far. Quite the reverse. Very smooth power delivery. I was only using 8s for testing and still seemed to have plenty of power. Also very smooth control using the throttle trim. Much better than my older jeti/hacker combo used on an extra. Just waiting on some extension leads and working out how to use an incidence meter (alternative is the TLAR method) and should be good to go.

RE: Tx motor settings for electric pattern motors?
Thanks guys. I'll sit down and play with some of these ideas over xmas. John I don't know the pattern people at all, as I mostly fly F5B /glider for comps and freestyle aero for fun. However I have 2 metre Vanquish that should get finished up over the next week or two. So I'll be out at Blacktown doing the odd sequence next year. You definitely see the country travelling to comps. I've been to Kiev, Pitesti (Romania) and Muncie flying F5B and had fun at all of it.

Tx motor settings for electric pattern motors?
Hi. If this has been covered previously just point me in the right direction and I'll mosy on over for a look see. I'd like to set up my Futaba 12Z to do a really good job on throttle for pattern. Trouble is I'm not sure how to define good or how to implement it. Right now I have the throttle set up from -100 to + 100 with a linear curve Throttle cut is on a switch with cut position 17% and brake is off. It all works and I have lots and lots of flights but the problems are: 1. I don't get to use the full movement of the throttle stick as the motor doesn't come on until the stick is 20% up. 2. I would like when I take the cut switch off for the motor to come straight up to idle and full stick down to still have the motor running slowly, but I can't seem to set this with the trim control as the motor always turns it self off when I move the stick back down to zero. Motor is a Hacker C5010XL on 8S and a Jeti ESC if it matters. Actually I'm wondering if the ESC needs some programming as well, and if so what? Advice appreciated as it will save me time having to figure it all out for myself (getting too old for that). cheers Dave in Sydney

RE: Extreme Flight Vanquish 2m Build Thread
Hi Unless I am mistaken the tail wheel assembly that came with mine is different to that shown in the manual. Photo attached. I am not familiar with this particular assembly. I wanted to check that the appropriate installation method is to drill a hole in the rear post of the fuse and just glue it in? Or am I missing something? Hopefully have mine in the air later this week with the Neu F3A motor. cheers Dave in Sydney

RE: Extreme Flight Vanquish 2m Build Thread
Hi. A couple of photos showing installation by Graeme Allen, of Neu geared F3A motor. Procedure was to generously glass a plywood disc into the nose and then install the Hyde nose ring. The Hyde rear support mounts in the firewall. In contrast to the Hacker C50 installation shown nearer the front of this thread there doesn't seem to be the need to install an extra former. Of course we've yet to see if it works. This is a slow build for me, not helped by the hold up with good old CC and their HV controllers. Gone back to a Jeti. Dont really think Jeti and Neu play all that well together but we shall see.

RE: Extreme Flight Vanquish 2m Build Thread
Hi Hanns. I will contact you off line about flying. I fly a few different fields but mainly out at Blacktown as its big enough for F5B. It will likely take me a while to get to the Vanquish. However I will be really keen to get the benefit of your experience with the plane. I've never flown at SRCS, so it would be fun to go to a new field. My motor is on the way but yet to get an ESC or servos. I have no background in pattern so its all going to be a bit "hit and giggle". Do like trying to fly a round loop though. Regarding the wheel pants, it looks the same attachment as the 78" Extra which I have. Eventually I took the wheel pants off as on the grass fields they seemed more trouble than they were worth, particularly when you run out of battery in a hover. However the attachment method worked fine. cheers DAve

RE: Extreme Flight Vanquish 2m Build Thread
Since the exchange rate for A$/US$ is very good right now, best in 30 years, and since I have long mostly positive experience with Steve Neu's motors and since F3Aunlimited was selling a package complete with the Hyde soft mount, I went with that setup. Won't get built for a little while but i will try and post a couple of photos of the Neu installation when it happens. Having said that my building skills are atrocious so it will probably be a what not to do photo.

RE: USA TEAM AT THE WORLDS SITE
Great photos, very interesting. That Aries fire was no doubt caused by an overheating ESC, a very familiar problem in F5B. I'm amazed at the number of electric setups that have only 80 Amp ESC and yet maximum power is typically close to 3000 watts. The ESC has to work harder at part than full throttle so in my book an 80 amp esc doesn't have enough head room.

Archie Thanks for that. I've had good success with hacker/esprit cage mount before. It bolts to firewall using the firewall mounting screws and then Ed lyerley showed me how to hold the back of the motor using cable ties Three must surely be enough room between the firewall and the cowl for the length of the geared motor?

RE: 12Z neck strap screw has fallen out
A friend and fellow RCModeller is a well qualified electronics engineer. We were able to disassemble the 12Z find and reattach the strap retainer and reassemble the Tx in about 90 minutes. He had to take out 3 boards, about 30 screws and remove and reattach numerous board connectors. He noted that the connectors were of high quality. Anyhow its a big relief to have the neck strap back without having to send the TX all the way back to the USA. Its tough self launching F5B gliders without one. I concluded that the screw must have fallen out due to vibration as a result of travelling in the car without a case, so the next step will be to get a soft case for it.

12Z neck strap screw has fallen out
The fitting for my neckstrap has come off the tx due to the retaining screw having worked its way loose. Fortunately this happened in the hangar and not when I was flying. Please see attached photo. My question is, can I reattach the fitting myself or does it need to go in for service? As far as I can see the Tx will have to be taken nearly completely apart to get at the screw unless the front plate can be removed from the front

12Z 2.4 aerial
Recently while travelling the hinged part of my 2.4 aerial module came off its hinges. I was able to rehinge it but there is a substantial amount of the aerial coax wire in the bottom half of the aerial. Is that how its supposed to be? The wire seemed to be firmly connected in the top half of the aerial and I wasn't able to push it in any further there. The wire was clearly still soldered properly to the circuit board. Of course I will range test but just wondered about how much of the wire was supposed to be slack in the circuit board section.

Is the 2.7 volt issue specific to 14 channel receiver
Following an incident I've reread the advisory about the 14 channel 2.4 receiver output being 2.7 volts. My question is whether the other receivers and particularly the 7 and 8 channel also only output 2.7 volts or whether its a higher number?

12z and 7 channel receiver - channel order?
Avionik F5B glider has 2 ailerons, 2 flaps, elevator and electric motor (6 channels plus battery), it does not have a rudder. I am using the 12Z and 7 channel receiver and wish to maximise performance. Is it best to put the battery connection in channel 2 and assign the second flap channel to channel 7 or should I put one of the flaps in channel 2?
