RE: Are 2 Batteries worth it?
ORIGINAL: devil505 Thanks for all the tips. To clarify I am not using 2.4 system, I am using the old school crystals and it is a 40 size. All my chargers are set up for 4.8v because that is what my first plane came with. I have another plane I could steal the switch off of and do have room for a second battery. I will look into a bigger Mah battery. Thanks for all the comments
I use my 4.8v wall wart chargers for 6v batteries all the time. It just takes longer, but still does the trick

RE: Airborne Models
The T-34's mot clubs race are Airborne/World Models. Not to mention those that race their Voodoo's and Dago Red's at some clubs. There's even a guy in Sacramento, Ca. that makes a specialized racing wing for that model.

RE: WHY GO EDF IF YOU HAVE TURBINES?
I voted something different. Most people don't understand basic economics which keeps prices artificially high. Example: Immediately tearing down anyone new who comes along instead of first making an actual effort to help them build up, thus killing competition and keeping the few with less competition which in turn creates artificially high prices. Another Example: If I have a widget that people want need or desire, and I am the only one that has it, there is no reason to compete. It's amazing many who own turbines do with the prices where they are, since that basic understanding seems to be nonexistent in many of them.

RE: Is there a radio that does not lose signal?
ORIGINAL: dirtybird I think you should examine your ability to assemble a reliable system. Get an experienced modeler to examine your installation. Any of the existing radios can give you reliable operation.None of them can guarantee reliable operation without your cooperation.
Just another reason why so many people avoid this hobby is stupid comments like this one. It's really hard to increase AMA/club memberships when people are met with this kind of comment. Great job. Maybe you can flame me now for calling you out on being like this. Talk about being part of the problem and not the solution. ~ ~ As far as radio systems go, I purchased the JR 9503 about 6 months ago and have had zero issues using that radio and Spektrum AR8000 receivers on all my different planes, and AR 400's on my foamies.

RE: Redwing RC 30cc MXS-R build and review.
ORIGINAL: 7kings Yep - I bought the yellow one as well. She's beautiful - that's for sure. I was originally going to do a pseudo-Breitling scheme, but I think I'm going to stay simple. I should have her in the air next weekend (fingers crossed). I'm running a DLE 30 on mine, and it's my first gasser. I'll be relying strongly upon the expertise at my club to help me keep the engine happy and purring. Also - just wanted to say that Tim is awesome to deal with. I'm very glad I went with Redwing...
Yup, I will do business with Tim any time. Next weekend??? I got mine Tuesday and it's ready to go. Oh wait, I had practice....LOL Good thing too since my instruction CD was blank....lol WOW!! Made it to a 3 pager......never thought that would happen. I'd really like that 100cc with the DLE 111, with the way the 30cc flies that's for sure.

Oh, and if you go with the MXS-R and want to put smoke in it. The Seagull Models 20oz tank (SEA9005) will fit right under the fuel tank in the hole for an exhaust. Link wouldn't work.
ORIGINAL: freakingfast When I set up 40 size trainers, it's always an OS 55ax. It's not for the speed, it's nice to have the power to undo what the student just handed you. Then again, I do wait to the last moment to take it, I want the student to not give up and fight to the last. Students love it. Haven't lost a trainer[:)] The fuel usage is lower than any 40-60 engine I've ever come across, air time at training speeds is unreal.
That too.

I got heck for this the very first time I flew a plane. I had a Kombat 40 with the 60'' wing option and had an Enya .46 MKII. Everybody who looked at it said it wouldn't fly because the engine was too small. Well, somebody forgot to tell the engine, it flew just fine and it was 100 degree day in about 1991. That was my very first flying lesson.
Take it to 5000' and try that. A trainer with a 40 is on the edge of a stall the whole time, and a 46la is barely an improvement. Bad advise unless you ask about a persons altitude first.

RE: Unexplained loss of control
I would never ever run an ignition off my receiver battery. I have 3 batteries in one of mine with a gasser. Smart fly, 2 7.2 lipos for the receiver and servos and a separate 7.2v lipo for the ignition.

RE: Finally rear carb AND rear exhaust!
ORIGINAL: captinjohn
ORIGINAL: dgliderguy Well, it seems the manufacturers of small two-stroke gassers have heard our pleas, and now even DLE is offering their popular engines with a rear carb/rear exhaust configuration. They even have the spark plug facing aft. Yeah, baby!! Now we can squeeze these powerful little powerplants into the narrowest of cowls, without having half it it stick out the sides. http://www.troybuiltmodels.com/items/DLE35RENGINE.html http://www.troybuiltmodels.com/items/DLE55RENGINE.html Now if we can just get them to come up with a box mount so we can get rid of those flimsy extensions that tend to crack the mounting lugs...
Who is going to buy a 35cc  china built engine for $350 and find out there ia not many airplanes for a odd diplacement engine??
Seems to me any 30CC airframe would be a good place for a 35CC. Then again I fly at higher altitude so bigger motors are a must.

RE: Altitude effects?
ORIGINAL: Lownverted I think Crazy has the right idea. Sounds like the change in heat and humidity either caused the airframe or the control system or both to move and make it go out of trim. Not an uncommon thing with wood planes. The aircraft flies, stalls & does everything else at the same airspeed no matter the density altitude. What changes is how those speeds look to you.
Try explaining that to a 747 pilot taking off at Sky Harbor in Phoenix in July at 116 degrees.

RE: Flight Packs source?
Batteries Plus. I take them a male lead like you would have on a pack and have them build one with their Nuon batteries. Sometimes cheaper per mAh than pre-made at the LHS. 3415 W Glendale Ave Probably the closest one to you.

RE: Why are we using NiMh...really?
ORIGINAL: TheWoodCrafter Why does anyone use NiXX type batteries today/ LiPo have so much more power/weight that they makes NiXX obsolete.
When the receivers and servos start running on 7.2v I'll start thinking about it. Until then I'm not buying a $50.00 voltage regulator for every plane.
