RE: Feigao 540xl ???
It's the motors cog. Each motor is different, some feel tough, some don't, depends on the motor (brand, size, kv, wind type ect...) You would need someone that has/had that motor to compare to
ORIGINAL: NobodyFamous I'll re ask the question. Do you own a brushless motor? Can you feel the magnets as you turn the motor by hand?
RE: cheap chinese batteries
I'm not a maxamps fan at all. I wish I was seeing that they're assembled in the good ole' US of A, but from what I've seen the are overpriced. The only packs IMHO that are worth that price are TP and Hyperion. I use to be a Turnigy/Zippy fanboy, but have become more recently a Gens Ace and SkyLipo fan, I still purchase turnigys but only when the Gens Ave or Sky's I'm looking for are out of stock (which is becoming more and more consistant). I did some small testing on different batts, have a look. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1440609&highlight=batteri+test

RE: Best do it all battery charger?
ORIGINAL: redliner140 Looking for a battery charger that charges all types of batteries and charges at least 2 batteries at a time. I would like it to be able to discharge, charge and balance. I also want to turn it on and forget about it. I dont want to have to worry about over charging If I forget its on. Thanks.
Please do not charge unattendented!!! This is a HUGE safety hazard! Lipo fires do happen and actually happened to a friend of mine 2 years ago and destroyed his garage before he could rush back in a put it out. Please be in the same room at all times. Wouldn't like something bad to happen. I have a few chargers, the one I like the most is this: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXAGTS&P=ML Here's the power supply I own, keep in mind they sale the same charger as above just a few $ more, I ordered the charger and power supply at the same time. http://www.commonsenserc.com/product_info.php?cPath=38_85&products_id=649&osCsid=qrtom3dkgn117rmkua84101gd3 The nice part about the dual and even quattro chargers is if your charging smaller packs (lower then 50watts) then it will knock them out with the quickness, but if your charging packs at a value greater then 50watts then a individual charger with a higher wattage output may actually be faster because majority of the dual and quattro chargers are 50watts max per channel. One thing I have is a multiple charge adaptor in which I use with my single port charger, so when I charging my smaller flight packs I can charge multiple at a time. Charger adaptors are typicall less then $10usd Here's some options: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__20613__Turnigy_MEGA_400Wx2_Battery_Charger_Discharger_800W_.html http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__17753__Turnigy_Mega_200Wx2_Battery_charger_discharger_400w_V2.html When selecting a charger the wattage rating is the most important. You may be able to charge 2 at the same time, but the charging amps maybe so low it would be quicker to charger one at a time with certain chargers. Also depends on what type of packs your charging. Wattage = volts x amps. So if you want to charge a 2s 5000mah pack a 1c (5amps) it would be about: 8.4v x 5a= 42watts 4s 5000mah pack at 1c (5amps) would be about: 16.8v x 5 = 84watts

RE: Spektrum DX8, battery mod
Thanks. So far so good. I plan on taking it out and charging on a better charger, as I am sure it will charge much faster and balance better. I've ordered from Valuehobby before and no issues. I had the 2s 1000mah lipo sitting spare, I was flying in a 800mm fms warbird, but I since converted that plane to 3s so I had this just sitting at storage voltage with no home. Was cheaper then buying new. I try to find uses for all the things I already have before buying something new.
ORIGINAL: pilotpete2 That looks like it worked out quite well. Are you using the built in charging system, or balance charging by opening the battery compartment to get to the balance tap on the battery? Converting a Hard Case Lipo to a Soft Pack
Purpose is to convert a hardcase lipo over to softpack. I'm sure a few questions may arise such as: - Why not just buy softpacks to start? - What's the purpose/benefit? ANSWERS: - Waiting for the packs that you specifically want to come in stock from numerous places is rather annoying and time consuming, even once you get the lipos you want certain things are not up to par. - The benefit is better performance and less stored internal heat. I'm an avid hobbyist and out of land, air & sea rc, boating is by far in last place and is typically the smallest crowds in the hobby world, like their bigger counterparts boats typically equal Bust Out Another Thousand. No such thing as "cheap speed" on that side of the house. Like mentioned I've done this is few times before, this time I converted a friends 2s 5000mah 50C Gens Ace HardCase to a soft pack. We did run the batts as is in a rc boat pulling over 100amps constant and peaks much higher. This is a normal setup in the boating side. The batteries themselves can handle the load, the bullet connectors of the plug-in type hardpacks however can not and a failure occurred because of it. This is not in anyway a failure of the gensace packs, this is my friend and I pushing the limits even knowing that a failure would prob come from it. The issue is the bullet connectors of the plug-in type hardpacks, they are 4mm which is normal in hardpacks, but they can't handle constant amp loads over 100. So we have battery with the possibility of providing 250 amps of power (5.0aH x 50C), but connectors that can't handle of approx 75amps constant. In cars it is normal for setups to pull much less then 75amps constant and 4mm bullets as well as deans connectors can survive without much issue, boating however is a amp hungry atmosphere and the deans and 4mm aren't up to the task. A direct connect style hardpack would be better in this situation, but the hardcasing itself is also a issue. In the boating side, it is very common to have to make adjustment to pretty much everything for reliability purposes. In a RTR boat, these batteries would have no issues, been when pushing the limits certain things need to be addressed. Let me say again this is NOT A RANT, COMPLAINT or ANY DISRESPECT TO GENS ACE BATTERIES. I am a HUGE gens ace fan, and data proves they are awesome batts. OPENING: I was very impressed in the construction of the lipo, it proved rather time consuming to open the case up, I have cracked into more expensive hardcase lipos in much shorter the time that it took to open these. Once opened I was really impressed with the overall board construction as well. To o-pen the case hold razer flat against the seems and attempt to slide it under the lip of the case halves. I found the connection side to be easiest. Once you find the lip, break the glue seal all the way around and pull the halves apart. Once Inside Once inside the repairs can begin. In the picture attached you can also see the 4mm bullet on the left migrated away from the cell tap breaking the circuit and causing the battery to show "open" and not register at all on the charger or the volt meter. While inside I completely removed the bullets and hard wired 8awg directly to the cell tabs. I did not use the supplied 12awg that came with the batteries, however I used the balance tab. Once converted I just wrapped in electrical tape. Another issue with the hardcases in boating, is heat and also water-intrusion. Heat - Without any constant air flowing over batteries like in cars heat is built up inside and hardcases lipos can typically average between 15-20F hotter then softpacks of the same quality. While lipos due enjoy and function better with a little bit of heat (around 100-115F) as it lowers the internal resistance, when they get too hot cell deterioration can occur. Water- water always finds a way to get in places and once in hardpacks sometimes removing it can be a joy all in itself. This eliminates that issue.

RE: Converting a Hard Case Lipo to a Soft Pack
That is correct... Going in with the razor flat as shown in the second pic reduces the chances of that happening. Going in straight would be just bad.
ORIGINAL: t9dragon One thing you forgot to mention is that if you cut to deep you can hit the cell which will cause a nice hissing sound and than a beautiful fire.
Spektrum DX8, battery mod
Here's a video I made on how I converted my dx8 to a 2s lipo balance plug for power. I was really un-happy with the amount of charge time I took for my stock battery to charge and how even if charged for 12+ hours had lousy battery life. I then looked at buying the upgrade lipo from Spektrum until I seen the price. I'm sure this has been done several times, this is just how I did it and thought I would share. RE: Are all RC forum's activity in decline?
I don't spend much time here because of the site. It's difficult and frustrating to post (error messages), it's non-functioning on my cell phone browser which is what i use most to post from. I didn't think RCG would be on the decline, lots of threads (more their then here) are plenty active. I visit the and stay active in the forums in the following order. 1) offshoreelctrics - tapatalk 2) rcgroups - tapatalk 3) helifreak - tapatalk 4)rcu * Not only are the first 3 tapatalk friendly which is how I partcipate in them 99% of them time, they are also mobile browers friendly and easy to navigate. Those sites are also much MUCH easier to sell/purchase things on. The RCU market is not friendly at all, I actually never post any for sale items here anymore (I did at one time).

RE: Pursuit 32, New personal best
Yea they stock bullets aren't going to work at all. I was having problems with heat with my m645 so I only ran it a few passes at a time on cooler days, when I ran this newer prop the water was very warm and the outside air temp was very hot. I believe I will attempt to vent the motor to allow heat built up inside to exit. It's cheaper then buying a new motor at this time.
ORIGINAL: Basstronics Thats awesome Diesel! Im building away on my Pursuit and hope to have it in the water mid August. 6.5mm bullets on the motors are melting off? Wow! I was going to use the stock connectors on the motor/esc that came with the motor. I probably need to replace those. For prop I got an M445
Pursuit 32, New personal best
Took my Pursuit out today and tested a different prop w/ it. Before I managed 53mph w/ a m645 on a Turnigy 4s2p 7200 30/40c setup and 15 degree timing, today I managed 56.1mph on Gens Ace 4s2p 10,300mah 30/60c and 11.25 degree timing. Motor is a Leopard 4074 2200kv with a T180. I installed extra caps and direct soldered a parallel setup to it to eliminate parallel adaptors. I can keep the motor cool though. Water was rather warm today, but she got toasty and de-soldered a 6.5cc motor/esc bullet. Nuts. Prop I used was a x447/3 cut down to 42mm & detounged. I need a bigger motor/rotor or a better motor, hull can handle the props, motor can't :( should drop down in kv and up the voltage to 5s2p, would need new packs though sadly. Need a Neu  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_1r_fSjGhE

RE: SV27 wont stay in the water!
I disagree. Weight can be your friend - Here's some tips, if your trays are in the boat (old sv) remove them. - Move your lipos further forward, I ran mine at the leading edge of the rails towards the motor mount - A few oz of weight or a small gps unit just forward of the motor helps a lot - Make sure the strut is neutral - Tucking the rudder under the boat and round off the lower leading edge of the boat helps a lot - I ran may trim tabs slightly up, The kintec trim tabs with the locking bolt are awesome the stock ones can bend and flex under running conditions. Here's my old SV. She ran awesome, sadly she crashed pretty hard when I tried to hit 60 with her. $5 bet and I lost UL1 powered: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_t1ksDActBo 7Xl powered: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JSwz6hiRwc You can see where my lipos are in the still photos at the end. The Gps went in front of the motor, but was removed The last clip is my 60mph attempt that didn't end well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7if0FMzIL4 Starts at 1:44
ORIGINAL: Old Sloppy
ORIGINAL: nitrosportsandrunner is adding weight a good/bad idea? RE: SPARTAN killer ????? Do share
Yea a six pole does handle higher rpm's better with less aggressive amp spikes. If darin's involved it will be awesome. Yea a 80 will do. I was using the orginal 1500kv motor on 5s with a pb45 amps esc I also used the pb1800kv motor with the pb45 amp esc. They're hard to kill (the old esc's at least). Knowing PB i doubt its a 80, prob more like 90-100. The old 45 I data logged 60-70 amps constant with high 70 amp pikes and it didn't phase it.

The entry level Shockwave is now a V2 Brushless with a new 45amp 3s esc and the trusty PB 1500kv motor. Yes the rpm's will be low on 3s, but this is a plastic entry level boat and if one needed to upgrade to something faster a quick esc swap your good. Let's keep in mind "entry" level and "plastic".
