Digger how is your project coming along ,its been a while since you last posted any progress.
Well, not a lot of progress. Still in the bones ready to cover. I'll get to it one of these days I'm sure. It's kind of on the back burner for now. I have a 35% Carden now that I am working on hopefully to maiden in a few weeks if time permits. I really do need to finish the Midwest though. Bob

RE: How do you protect your servo & batt wires, foam, cable clamps or what????
I sometime use fuel tubing sliced open and wrapped around the wiring where it passes through or is in contact with framing. Also, tubing can be mounted on the framing.

RE: Fuel tank shaking-Is this normal???
Another thing to consider is that the vibration from the engine is more apparent with the wheels on the ground. In other words when flying there is not as much vibration absorbed by the fuel tank as when the plane is sitting on the ground.

I use to have a hard time trying to align holes in the prop and holes in the crankshaft, ending up enlarging the prop holes to fit the screws. Any tips ? My order is in as well. Transmitter module came with the larger antenna. Looks like they did a nice job with the retrofit. It's not as bad as all the talk. I plan to put one in my 90 Funtana to check it out.

I got a few more flights on the BME and it is one smoothe flying aircraft, which is what I hoped for. Fourth flight I tried some rolling circles and I was pleasently surprised with the motion. Went about three circles continous before getting out of wack! Could never do that with my edge. Probably just the weight difference but who cares. This plane makes me look like a better pilot than I am.[:D] Going out today to get several more flights, the weather is perfect!!! [sm=biggrin.gif]

RE: BME Aircraft 30% Extra330L
Thanks Steve, Taking the cowl off as we speak to check everything under the hood. I used thread lock on everything so I am a little baffeled as to why stuff came loose to begin with, I guess I could have missed some of it. Not this time though. Everything will get checked again. Just wondering, do any of you guys drill holes in the cowl for adjusingt the needles? I seem to recall some builders using some Mcdonalds straws and grommets to create a perminant install for adjusting. I don't know if that is what I want to do or not. Seems like once you get the needles set, for the most part the holes are useless.

RE: BME Aircraft 30% Extra330L
I finally did the maiden yesterday, Very Nice. pretty good all around flight after trimming. I have the CG set at about 5_1/2 back. Started with the elevator a little high and had to trim it quickly. The ailerons were not too bad but I had to add some right trim. After getting the trims straight, it was a pleasure to fly, predictable and straight. Didn't do too much arobatic stuff other than a few rolls and loops. The rolls are damn near perfectly axial without any mixing. The DA-50R on the canister setup is still way to rich and after a few more tanks of fuel I will start to lean it out a little at a time. On the ground I measured around 6400 rpm w/Xoar 23x8. At one point during the flight on the downwind the I breifly heard the prop rip, surprise. Took it up high to check the stall charicteristics, seemed to just mush forward into a left spin, although if I remember correctly , with a tail wind. It started getting pretty windy/gusty just before a storm rolled in and I only had time to get two flights. After the second flight and while dissasembling I found the aileron control horn cone had loosened up and unthreaded itself about 1/4". Also had a couple other nylocs that came loose on the elev servo arms. Wow, glad I stopped when I did. Overall I am very impressed with the flights and can't wait to get more time on and confidence in the motor.

I actually thought about using the 1100's, probably a good weight savings. I may try them later on if the current weight is not acceptable.

RE: BME Aircraft 30% Extra330L
Oh, JohnVH is right, that's just the CG point I'm after, blue painters tape. Speaking of the wings though, have any of you guys measured them installed on the plane? I measured mine and the wingspan is 85", not 87" as noted. Probably just a metric conversion issue. E-mailed PAU about it and they were surprised to find 85" as well. The batteries are NOBS FAUP 1950's. On my edge I can't seem to run them down. At least 6 flights on a full charge before they get back down to 6v loaded, probably a little overkill.

That probably wont work unless you want to disconnect the battery to charge it. IT needs to be between the manual switch and the ignition on the positive line. Bob

RE: BME Aircraft 30% Extra330L
The canister and header is little less than a pound, 15 oz's if I remember correctly. I have two FAUP 1950's and one 1150 on the ignition. Along with the tru-turn spinner and three HD switches and an opto. Not really sure though where the added weight is. Maybe this fuse and wings is a little heavier to begin with. That might account for some of it. I'm not to concerned at this point as it will more than likely be more plane/engine combo than I really need. I intend to use this plane for IMAC to begin with, I ain't very good with the 3D yet, and maybe later put it on a diet with some Carbon gear and maybe some lipo's.

To tell you the truth the color dosn't match but it looks sharp anyway. That picture dosn't really do it justice. I must have been sleep at the wheel. These might look a little better. The XOAR prop has an awsome finish. I wish I was good enough photographer to show. Sorry don't have any pics with the wings on yet. By the way the XOAR prop is the laminated one.

RE: BME Aircraft 30% Extra330L
Pretty close Steve, I still have to balance yet and do some range checking before installing the PCM. Fired up the DA this past weekend and it was surprisingly quiet. Seemed to be a little rich on the bottom but I will wait to adjust after a tank or two. First run with the 23x8 XOAR rpms were 6500. Don't know where that stands and the motor has not been tuned yet either. Little disappointed in the AUW. I was expecting 17.5lbs with the can setup but ended up a little over 18. Of cource, I do have some healthy batteries installed and a choke servo. I'm not frettin it , I think the DA is up to the task. We'll see. I Installed one of the compression spring setups on the tail wheel and am really impressed with them. Also received the red spinner. Also found a neat and easy way to label the switches. Hopefully soon I will get to fly it.

RE: MY FLIGHT BOX IS COMPLETE . . . Let's see yours
Very nice box Tiger, however I would caution you with the battery setup you have. The binding terminlas are exposed on the inside very close to your battery terminals. If they come in contact with each other (pos- neg) it could be an exciting afternoon. The previous advice to add an inline fuse is a good one. Just remove the RED terminal (positive) from the battery and solder or crimp in the inline fuse holder and re-connect. These can be purchased from Radio shack for a few dollars. I would use something like a 10- 15 amp fuse.

RE: Gas engine vibration precaution
Note:Larger aircraft can be flown with Karbonite geared servos if ganged together. Hitec recommends a maximum of 12lbs per servo, per control surface. (I.E. A 24 lb plane should use two servos per surface.)
