RE: SHRIKE CLUB # 1
Hey folks... I am in the process of building a shrike .10. The build is coming along, but I think I want to go electric with it. I am not having much luck searching this thread for info on it. Don't normally follow RCU that much, but this is the place if you want shrike info. Can someone link me to some posts in this thread where electric conversion has been discussed, or maybe its in another thread. Have seen mention of some speed 400 motors, but that leaves a pretty big gap :) I was thinking about the ARC-28-47-2 from http://www.lightflightrc.com/. Any input on that? Thanks Diggs

RE: CX2 Model 3 Carbon Fiber Boom Kit
They are extremely easy to install. I installed them as a newb a few months back and it took all of 15 mins maybe. It doesn't help the control per say, but it does help with the wash/ground effect. Less resistance, so you don't need to control it as much. It will still be effected by it, just not as much. I have found no cons to them at all. The reduction in resistance to wash, easier access to the battery, easier to work on since you don't have to fight the rear canopy.... It is still one of if not my favorite mod out there. The Alum swash and lower rotor head along with the extreme 180 motors also rank very high. The kit doesn't include the skids like it once did. GET THE SKIDS!! It will be the last pair you ever buy. Mine have taken MASSIVE abuse (30+ft drops from blade strike) and are still doing there thing. Diggs

RE: Move up from CX to CP?
I really don't get why E-flite ignores the FP option. I love learning on my Esky honey bee FP2. It is rugged, easy to fly and great for learning orientation and general "non inverted" flight. So, My vote is for that and a Sim. It has brought me along nicely. My last hover mode is nose in. Tail and both side ins are there, and I am now flying back and forth in the yard a lot. When I crash, most of the time I pick it up, straighten out the blades and fly more. I have the CP and the CPP, like them both a lot, but I just feel like it wasn't the right step to take following my CX2. I broke the CP/CPP and it is costly to fix, and breaks easy due to the head speed. This is my opinion and what worked for me. Everyone is different, and people will suggest anything from a compy 300, CPs of various brand to Trex 450s as the next step. I would say all of them have the merits, but for me the FP2 worked best. I have a Dragonus SA Intruder 450 class heli that I hover, but i don't fly her like I do the FP. I just dont want the expense of repairing her. The FP normally cost me between 1.50 and 10.00 for bad crashes. Repair times are quicker due to fewer parts as well. Its simple and cheap and does what it is suposed to do. Teach a newb like me :) Diggs

RE: Almost gave up on CX
Solo, I don't frequent this forum nearly as much as another RC forum, but you are one of the few users here I recognize due to your regular and very informative posts. I hope you continue doing what you do. As for the Flybars, Please market those things. If it is a worthwhile product, it will be good for you and the community. Stersman has a great product and many CX2 owners are better off because of it. You should go for it and these forums will get you started, the quality and usefulness of the product will do the rest by word of mouth here. A good mod for the CX/2 is always welcomed, and if you can make a buck helping, so be it! I look forward to having the opportunity to buying a few myself. Diggs

RE: Best charger for Blade CX2
:( I really think you folks should get a charger that has a variable output for the charge rate. In the long run, it will serve you better. When you step up to 3s packs that are 2100mAh, something like the DN power charger will charge it much faster and the 2S packs will even charge faster in pairs and you charge them at the correct rate... Do what you like, the Cellpro or the DN are a better choice IMO. Diggs

RE: Cx2 CF tailbooms
It can be installed however you like, but typically on other helis with actual rotors, the long side goes down to prevent the tail rotor blade from striking the ground. No Tail rotor here, so you can put it how you like it, but traditionally you see them down. I put mine up as not to break it :) Diggs

RE: Best charger for Blade CX2
I have questions about this charger, http://www.grandrc.com/inc/sdetail/37080 here are the specs posted at Grand RC, which btw, has great pricing!! ??Dimension: Length 135 x width 80x height 35 (mm) ??Series no: RCC-4CX ??Input Voltage: AC 100-240V 50-60Hz ??Output Voltage: 2cell DC 7.4V 3cell DC 11.1V 4cell DC 14.8V ??Output Current: 1000 mA/cell ??Include 11.1V(balance/series)20A switch connector (apply to 11.1V series charge Li-ion/Li-polymer) Is the output/charge current adjustable? It appears to me it is set at 1000mAh or 500mAh per cell. That is not good!!! 1000mAh is too much for a stock e-flite battery, and dropping it to 500mAh when 2 cells are connected increases the charge time. If it is some how adjustable, then I think that is a great deal on a charger, if not, I personally would not consider it at all. You are locked down to on charge rate which is terrible. The DN power/CSRC charger is also available at grand RC http://www.grandrc.com/inc/sdetail/47964 You can vary the rate in .2mAh steps between .2mAh and 2.0mAh. This gives you a lot more flexibility and yes you can plug in a second pack after the first has been charging. The rate of charge varies depending on each cell on each pack, so all four cells charge independantly and it keeps them all balanced. Still my choice. Diggs

RE: Best charger for Blade CX2
Take a look at the DN Power charger from XUShobby or Readyheli, both good places to buy from. The DN allows for 2 2S packs to be charged at once as well and comes with polarity adapters to connect the stock packs. I also suggest you take a look at the DN Power 900mAh packs, or the True RC 900 mAh packs. Both are better and cheaper than the stock e-flites. Diggs

RE: cx2 Battery charging
IF you are going to take that gamble, and I suggest in a big way you NOT DO this at all, then atleast get a charger that cuts off after the charge cycle is completed. I DO NOT suggest you do this at all. Lipos are dangerous, there are many posts and a thread dedicated to the topic on RCgroups. It is a silly gamble. Buy one or more good chargers which will reduce the charge time and buy several packs.. Problem resolved. I use DN power chargers which allow me to charge 2 2S packs at once. Only takes an hour to charge the packs at a 1C rate. I probably have $500 in batteries and chargers, but that is much cheaper than my insurance deductible from a fire and I don't risk DEATH by fire or smoke inhalation. Diggs

RE: 3in1 with BCP tx ?
The 3 in 1 doesn't have a receiver(RX), so you will need a 3 in 1 and the RX. If you were considering a new transmitter now is a great time to do it. If you want to use the same TX, then the 4 in 1 is probably the better deal. Diggs

RE: OUCH...Blade CX2
This is going to sound crazy, and I am the only person that I have seen comment on this but...... get the boomtown hobbies skid and tailboom kit from Jamie or eBay. I swear my blade strikes reduced after getting this. I think part of my strikes may have been cause by either the wash off the original canopy, or the blade striking the canopy and deflecting into the other blade. Yes, you can get the Dynam vortex inner and outer shafts, and get a aluminum eflite head hub for the inner shaft. It will all link up and spread the blades apart just a touch more and has been reported to reduce the strikes. I tried this and my attempt failed due to the TBE I seem to always get with the aluminum head hub. Have tried 3, all three seemed to hold the flybar too tight or something. I gave up on it. Others have succeeded. Again, I know the tailboom theory sounds nuts, but my strikes decreased with the mod. Also, I suffered the exact same type of crash as you. Mine was from 25-35 ft up though and it did the death spiral to the asphalt!!! Canopy was destroyed, front and rear. I got the boomkit the next day by chance and got a yellow cx canopy at the LHS and was back in biz! I think BPhobbies and slickzero both carry the dynam vortex parts. I would do that and not get the "kit" you see online for this. The "kit" consists of the same parts relabeled and priced much higher. Diggs

RE: I hate this hobby !
ORIGINAL: RUOK I also bought a spektrum dx6 from a guy at work to use with the trex, would it be worth it to set it up to use on the blade too?
I don't have a link, but there is a mod you can do to the 4 in 1 that will allow you to hook up an AR6000 on the CP. OR, you can get a 3 in 1 from the CPP at horizon or other shops and connect the AR6000 to that. I am going to do the 3 in 1 and an AR6100 on my CP soon. I am still tweaking out that change on the FP and once that is final, the CP will be next. As for getting a Sim, DO IT!!! I use Phoenix. I picked up a very good deal on Reflex XTR, but haven't tried it yet. Others swear by G3.5, but I tried it at my neighbors house and just preferred Phoenix. I really think its just personal preference like what keyboard or mouse you like best. I have heard using a TX like the DX6 or 7 is a real pain to setup on Phoenix, but I haven't tried mine yet. I just use my old CX2 controller on it, and it works well. I will eventually try the DX7 and will try to let you know how it does if interested. GL man!! Diggs

RE: I hate this hobby !
ORIGINAL: ndoren Diggs, that lower head speed is helpful when crashing, but a disadvantage outside. Do you fly outside? How vulnerable is it to wind?
I have had it outside once, and there was a slight breeze. At that time I had owned the heli less than a week and it was the first heli I tried outdoors. I can't really judge based on that one flight, but I can say that the CX2 would of had problems in the breeze that day. It will fly in the wind, but it is not going to fly like a CP or CPP outdoors. However, here is a link to a vid of one flying outdoors in the wind. This was posted by the guy that talked me into the FP. He has been flying planes a long time, but just recently started with helis. He has only the FP and a CX2. Its not a pro video by anymeans, but I would love to be at this stage of flight with a single rotor bird. Notice the name of the vid, he said it was pretty windy and the park cleared out due to the wind, but he gave it a shot and it did well. He has some upgraded blades on it that are stiffer than the stock, cost $8.00 for a set. I am sure they help as well. I have a pair, but haven't put them on since I haven't had much of a chance to fly outside due to weather. Here is the [link=http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=647802]Link to the video[/link] Diggs

RE: I hate this hobby !
I went through this pain for a few weeks and someone I met online suggested buying an Esky Honey bee FP2. I scoffed, but after a few more crashes and his insisting it was easier and cheaper to repair, I caved and tried it. I would suggest you give it a whirl as well. Xheli, who i know nothing about, has it for $90.00 RTF. I would suggest getting some Lipo packs for it and ditching the NIMH. Its slower head speed prevents massive damage like the bent shafts when you set it down in a crash. I bought mine at BPhobbies for 129.00, but would have tried xheli if it was available for $89 at the time. I have been flying since December, CX2, have had my FP for a month and am practicing side in hover on it now. Tail in is mine, I can do it all day. I have had several crashes and one severe one. Cost of repair for the severe one was $1.48, the mild ones required me to bend over and straighten out the folded blades and fly again. BTW, congrats on the massive weight loss!! I could stand to do the same and have to compliment you on achieving that. People who have never faced it don't know how hard it is to do, much like people don't understand how hard it is to pilot an RC heli :) Diggs

RE: Why no heli races?
I saw a post on RCGroups where they hung small nylon type rope from the gym ceiling as boarder/corners and if you hit them it would snag the heli. Guy said there was no damage from it when his CX2 went in it. Might do a the pylon slolum with rope instead, that way you never go above an obstacle. just need something to suspend the rope from. RE: Why no heli races?
I would be interested too.. What type of heli would you be doing this with? We rigged up a little target with a loop on it this weekend and picked it up with the skids of the CX2 and then had to drop it off on top of a box, made us think about perfecting it into a game with rules and scoring. Create multiple objects to lift at different angles of orientation which would force side in and nose in hover retrievals. Its fun and would help you learn those skills. I would like something in a race format too though. Something we could do outdoors via time trials. I would think a hula hoop would be a good obstacle to fly through, although a blade strike would be pretty devastating to the heli that missed. Diggs

RE: WHICH FIXED PITCH HELI IS BETTER????
I have the HB FP2 and love it. I have never owned any walkera products due to some negative posts i have read about them. there is another one that I would like some info on which is the MS Composit Hornet X-FP. Not around many places and its not an RTF kit, but looks interesting. A bit larger it seems and I like the look of it. A buddy of mine pointed this out to me yesterday which bugged me greatly since I paid $40 more. http://xheli.com/new20esho4ra.html I know nothing about xheli.com, but that is a great price. GL with the FP you chose and keep us informed. Diggs Edit: Forgot to mention that you can use the Lipos from the CX2 with the FP2 or Mark IV whatever the dealer you buy it from is calling it these days. But I use my same chargers and lipo packs. RE: Taming the beast: Blade CP Pro
ORIGINAL: ndoren Diggy, the battery pack for your Honey Bee FP is a LiPo? It comes with a NiMH, right? Can I simply sub in a LiPo? Like the onces from my CX (I have a bunch). The connetors are compatable? As you can sense, I'm leaning toward the advice here, and strongly considering the FP Honey Bee before graduating to a CP. Neall
The ONLY mod I have done to my FP was to hang a CX2 battery cage on it. I did it wrong, and have it too far back so my center of gravity is off. I am going to fix that soon. But yes, you can just take the 2S lipos you use for the CX2 and plug them directly into the FP and fly. I loved that too since I have like 8 or so packs already for the CX2. On my Blade CP, I had to exchange the motor in order to fly with 3S lipos. NIMH batteries are EVIL!!! [:@] With the 8x8 room, you will save paint, wall damage, the heli and your knees by going the FP route [:D] I can hover my CP pretty good tail in, but would be very worried being in an 8x8 room with her. Head speed is pretty fast, the those CF blades have some momentum behind them at hover speeds. GL Diggs
