RE: .28 picco jl team turbo
I have a coupla questions with regards to this engine. Is it possible to convert it to a pull-start, and if so what parts would be needed to do so? Or would it just make more sense to go with the standard pull-start equipped Picco .28? For reference I would be installing it in my Ofna Hyper ST.

Motor Won't Run...Please Help!!
I had my Hotshot out today and after about 2 minutes, the car started slowing down considerably and then just wouldn't move. I unplugged the motor (Tamiya Super Stock BZ), plugged in the silvercan, and it worked. Is it time to replace the brushes? They don't look too worn, just a little dirty. Do they only need a cleaning? I have only had previous experience with silvercans and Sport Tuned motors, so all help is appreciated. Also when it's time to replace the brushes, who sells them.

RE: Hotshot Setup Questions
There is a new steering fix made by RC Channel for $30 plus shipping. It works with the stock suspension, and eliminates the issue of the wheels pointing outward when the suspension compresses. I got one on my car and it works great, though you might want to get a higher torque servo as the linkage is a little on the tight side. I also have their metal suspension kit installed, which makes it a completely different car, handling wise...and a little heavier though!!

RE: HOTSHOT RE-RELEASE BUILD!
Hey thanks kaiser. This is actually my first 4wd buggy and I love it. I've had several Tamiyas over the years; a Rover Mini Cooper back in '96, a Dyna Blaster, and currently a Bronco CR-01 and a Buggy Champ. I know it's no racer, but I am surprised how fast it is. But then again all I have to compare it to is my older cars which were all powered by the stock silvercans, a crawler, and my sport tuned powered Buggy Champ.

Maybe in another 2-3 weeks. Ha ha ha. I don't know 'bout that "Exclusive Edition". Waste of time, money, and resources I think. Maybe I'd go for some factory gold plated wheels though.

RE: HOTSHOT RE-RELEASE BUILD!
Well I'm gonna put up some more pics cause I love this car! Also, the RC Channel susp. and steering kits get the job done and just look Badass!! I am sincerely unapologetic to the purists who think I ruined the car by removing its quirky, over-engineered monoshock setup. Ha ha ha. Nah, just kiddin.

RE: Tamiya Buggy Champ 2009 Resource Thread!
Damn, it takes me forever to JB Weld and evaluate some steering uprights! ha ha ha Well, fixed the right side, the next day on the trial run the left side popped. Fixed it, and no problems since. Also I sent a sample front arm shaft to one of my friends and he's finished machining several out of stainless (two longer than the others to allow the lower arms to be spaced out some), seeing as I've had a tendency to break those quite often. I'll send some pics once I go to pick em up. I need the diff!!! And here's a parting shot of my buggy family. Enjoy!

RE: HOTSHOT RE-RELEASE BUILD!
Finally got my Hotshot and built it up. This is my first 4wd buggy and I love it! It's decently fast enough for me with the Super Stock BZ motor, though the motor gets a little hot second battery in. I'll hafta put a heatsink on the motor to keep temps down. And as can be seen in the pics I already had a collision mishap to the front end, but I'll bend it back. And the paint job came out kinda crappy cause tha can of yellow I had came out like lumpy gravy, but oh well, it's just paint.

RE: HOTSHOT RE-RELEASE BUILD!
Finally!! I just ordered my Hotshot from Tower and I can't wait to start building! I now already have a nearly complete "parts" 'Shot that I've built up from a bunch of new parts I gathered here and there. I figured I wanna beat the piss outta this thing so why not stockpile a messload of parts for it. Hey gulfstream, I love the rubber boots at the drive joints. I was thinking of doing something like that myself. RC Channel has the boots for sale on their site, 8 boots for $10 plus shipping (a little pricey). I've looked for the Frog boots you used but can't find any. Maybe I'll hafta fork out the cash.

RE: Vintage Tamiya Thread
Mine's the new re-release, the Buggy Champ. Same body as the Rough Rider though I added the lights in front of the driver. To convert to a Scorcher you'll need the body set, and the front body mount post/steering pivot like the one in this auction. http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-TAMIYA-SAND-SCORCHER-Body-Mounts-TA8s-/140399313549?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Radio_Control_Parts_Accessories&hash=item20b073828d

RE: Vintage Tamiya Thread
Great find! What you got there is a Rough Rider, which was recently re-released as the Buggy Champ. Same SRB chassis as the Scorcher aside from the front body mount post (steering pivot), and tires and wheels. Replacement parts can be found pretty easily on eBay, though I think (could be wrong here ) some original parts might not be compatible with the new re-released stuff.

RE: Going Slow is The Way To Go - Tamiya CR-01 Resource Thread!
Well I was out again today and got a couple more pics, and blew the servo. I think it was my own fault, blasting around on a rock strewn path with an aluminum servo horn! Oh well, it's kinda funny 'cause earlier today I was thinking of getting a better servo, so I guess I have to. I was thinking about the Hitec HS-5645MG. Tower lists it as watertight. Any thoughts, ideas, or experiences with that servo. Also, what is the Fail-Safe they mention? I am looking to upgrade from the Traxxas one I have on there now and want something up to the task at hand. I am using the Futaba 2PL 2.4 GHz radio and receiver, and I am wondering if the digital servo would be better suited to it than a standard one. I think I may also go back to the Rooster Crawler ESC as it offers far superior control, but I have a question with regard to that. 1) Does anyone (cough, Lunchboxer, cough ) know where to get the 4mm female bullet connectors like the Tamiya stock ones? (as the last one I had I just soldered the wires straight to the motor tabs, and this time around I am looking to make motor swaps a little easier) Now heres a couple shots posing in front of the waterfall. Enjoy!

RE: Going Slow is The Way To Go - Tamiya CR-01 Resource Thread!
Ha ha ha. Probably about 60 miles too far north for a sighting. I got a sweet Jersey Devil shirt I picked up at the Ablert Music Hall (sweetest bluegrass sounds ya'll e'er did hear) in Waretown in South Jersey a couple years back. It's got a picture of the Jersey Devil pickin' a banjo! Ha ha ha. If ya like bluegrass music that is THE place to go. About the park, it's awesome, but I always go there alone or sometimes with my girlfriend (walkin our cat Taco on a leash and harness). Damn, we must look like a bunch of weirdos!

RE: Going Slow is The Way To Go - Tamiya CR-01 Resource Thread!
Well I finally got out to the park today and took some pictures to share with everyone. I also got some new RC4WD Mud Slingers to try out which I mounted up to a set of J-Concepts Tense Wheels. The offset is a little much for a scale look, but til I get new wheels, which won't be all that soon, these'll do. I wish I knew people around here to crawl with. Still had a great time though. The pictures were taken at South Mountain Reservation in West Orange, NJ (amazing mountainous terrain just 15 minutes from Newark, who knew?). There's some great crawling spots (alot tend to be somewhat dangerous if the truck starts to roll over), some water crossings, and even a couple of waterfalls to add to the scenery. That said, heres the pics.

RE: Carbon Fiber or Aluminum shock tower
Bending the aluminum back will work, but once bent the tensile strength is greatly reduced, and the next hard impact may actually snap it. That being said though, once carbon fiber shatters, it can't just be bent back.

RE: Going Slow is The Way To Go - Tamiya CR-01 Resource Thread!
Great pics as usual, Nick! The wire bridge is SIIIIIIIIIIIIIICK! And I can't get enough of that Pacer. Is that running 1.9's? I got to get my Bronco back in the woods again soon and get some pics to post. I don't know of any actual courses around here, but I found this park about a half hour from here with excellent natural terrain and beautiful scenery to boot (including a couple waterfalls). Also I forgot, are you running softer springs/stabilizers? And if so, does that tend to cause the axles to twist up under power?

RE: Tamiya Buggy Champ 2009 Resource Thread!
Yeah I guess I'm giving it a good workout for sure. ha ha Oh, and a little off topic, I just picked up a Hotshot upper chassis and bumper with painted driver and other stuff as spares for the Hotshot that I don't even have yet (still waiting for Tower to get them back in stock). Now I got a messload of stuff for it!! ha ha ha I have a very understanding girl when it comes to my addiction. I'll let you know how the JB Weld holds up to my harsh beatings as soon as I get some to fix it.

RE: Tamiya Buggy Champ 2009 Resource Thread!
Well, I had the beast out today, and about 8 minutes into it the right front wheel flew off!! I was just pissed off that I was gonna have to look for the locknut, but as I approached I noticed it was still on the front of the wheel. I blew the stub axle right off the upright!! Anyone know if a little JB weld do the trick? It's a press fit and i can press it in all the way. I hope so cause I have been putting so much money into this pit, but thats kinda my fault since I don't drive it like a vintage buggy. ha ha ha! I also think I might see about getting some new front arm shafts machined out of stainless as i have already broken like 7 of those. If I get those done I wall also get some done so that the area that the lower arm attaches to is about 2-3mm longer as I am running it with some nylon spacers (see third pictrue) to give it some negative camber up front. I also included a pic of the driver as he wanted to say hi. ha ha And on another note the hardened steel U-joints are worthwhile vintage upgrade (if you can find them). All I really need now is the ball diff mainly because the right side output shaft has an ever so slight bend and twist to it that the wheel wobbles a little. Still drives straight though, so until it really breaks...

RE: HOTSHOT RE-RELEASE BUILD!
Well as soon as Tower gets them back in stock I'll have a Hotshot coming my way, but I wanted to know what your thoughts are on the Supershot underguard as an upgrade. I have several questions about it. How does it mount to the chassis? I have never seen one installed, so does anyone know if it completely covers the battery cover? (pictures?) And if so, would it require a swing-out 8.4V battery holder like Gulfstream has on his original shot? And finally, what about just making some sort of undercarriage protection out of a sheet of lexan? Any and all thoughts/ideas, please! Thanks.

Thanks Dante. It was really late when I saw my car apart on the floor so I kinda set it up to look like a garage scene, and voila! Oh, and here's the Scorcher thread. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_9458798/tm.htm Lucky you at the toy fair! How'd the 1:1 look in person? I was constantly checking progress updates online before the show and they did a top notch job on it from what i could see.

RE: Tamiya Buggy Champ 2009 Resource Thread!
Here's some pics of the U-joints. There's about 1mm of play at the actual joint. Oh and the joints are chrome-plated brass. ...woulda been nice had Tamiya included steel U-joints, but at least they should "re-release" them. Tower's got the ball diff listed as mid-March availability at $34.99. I might have to buy two...or three. More? ha ha ha

I will definitely wait for that one, LB. $$$ though probably, knowing Tamiya. How many of those will you be buying? ha ha ha Oh, I was at Rite Aid today and I saw this buggy toy and thought, since this is not an "Official" thread, this unauthorized (I'm sure) buggy would be a great pic to post. Also, I could be wrong, but I think the universals in the re-release are still brass, just chrome plated. Did they ever make hardened drive shafts?

RE: Tamiya Buggy Champ 2009 Resource Thread!
Has anyone here used this Thorp style ball diff? http://cgi.ebay.com/tamiya-buggy-champ-SRB-ball-diff-new-thorp-style_W0QQitemZ140361646045QQcmdZViewItemQQptZRadio_Control_Vehicles?hash=item20ae34bfdd What are the benefits of the ball diff compared to the stock kit diff? I am running a sport tuned motor w/ a TEU-302BK esc and have busted two dirveshafts. I wouldn't think that it's too much torque. Also the u-joints have developed enough slop to feed all the worlds orphanages! I think thats what is causing the wear and tear on the driveshafts. Also would the hardened steel universals (#50117) from the super champ fit the re-release. If so it seems like a worthwhile upgrade. Tell me what you think.

RE: Official Tamiya Sand Scorcher Re-Release thread
This just in! RC Channel rear suspension mod for the Buggy Champ/Sand Scorcher is now available. I wanna se how it holds up durability wise and if it gives any real improvement. I sure think it looks cool and it doesn't distract from the original style. Here's the link. http://www.rccarparts.biz/product_info.php?cPath=67&products_id=467 and to the purists I know, the positive static camber of these kits is part of the appeal, but mods are still mods and this looks promising that there will be some growth in this market segment. Hopefully! We'll see. Love these kits!![:D]
