RE: Press Release from AMA - Update on Upcoming FAA regulation changes
*****************************************heart of the PROBLEM******************************************** This is really a simple issue and we (the poeple) have lost on these issues in the past. Im not being negative, just historical. For those of us who have spent are lives in aviation (Mil/Civ) have seen this crap in the past in our industry. It has basically killed general aviation. The true nature of the ISSUE is that the governmen is broke. Anytime you can regulate something it gives them a reason to tax it. Dont bother arguing with me on this point. Anything that is regulated must be enforced in some way, once its is regulated then additional rule making WILL come down the pipe. AKA they smell money: if someone has 5 grand to put into an RC plane then they must have some additional money to pay tax. A long time ago a man was qouted to say this "The government view is that IF IT MOVES TAX IT, IF IT STILL MOVES REGULATED IT, IF IT STOPS MOVING SUBSIDIZE IT" He tried to stop it and believe it or NOT he too was from KALIFORNIA (dont get me started on KALI) The other problem is there is always some TOTAL MORON out there to give the Gov an excuse. The government thinks any act of stupidity must be regulated even if its a 1 in 1000000 chance. I cant go into detail on this (literaly I cant) but years ago I was on the BYP5 arrival and had to report an RC aircraft that had just gone over the right wing. It could have gone into and fodded out #2, then it would have made the news. It was a Red 1/3 or 1/4 scale cub I even saw the pilot figure. It also looked like it had a cargo pod on it, probably a camera. I kid you not, the FBI got in the game within an hour, and I ended up taking a day off. **** I can NOT go into detail on the time of the event, the airline, or location, actions taken, etc. ****

How is government regulation a bad thing? I mean, they've done a great job with General and Comercial aviation. Besides now days society wants to be guided and told whats best.

RE: Press Release from AMA - Update on Upcoming FAA regulation changes
I truly put all my faith in our great leaders in Washington. Didnt We the people vote and put them there, dont they work for us? Ofcourse they should regulate all things, look at the great job they are doing for all of us. Here pretty soon I wont have to work and I will get monthly checks and FREE healthcare. [:)]

RE: Real Flight G5...
ORIGINAL: fly24-7 I purchased 4.5 about 6 weeks ago and submitted for and received the free upgrade to 5.0. Some observations, partly based on previous posts. - I have an average performing PC. 1.4Mhz Dual Core processor, 3 Gb RAM, 128Mb dedicated video memory, Windows Vista Home Premium. 4.5 performs better on this machine than 3.5 did. 5.0 performs a little worse than 4.5 but a little better than 3.5 did. 4.5 was obviously optimized for the new OS. I think anyone still using 3.5 will see some performance improvements with an upgrade if only due to optimizing code. Another nice feature of 4.5 and 5.0 is that upon installation, an analysis of your PC is conducted and the RealFlight automatically adjusts it's graphics settings for optimal performance. No more trial and error with settings! I also found that adjusting some of the OS graphics settings in Vista helps as well. - The 5.0 upgrade is a full install and will not overwrite 4.5. I currently have both installed on my machine. I have yet to try the combat mode as I have to mess with my wireless router settings to get it to work. - Feature-wise, aside from the combat, 5.0 offers me no ''gotta have'' features that would make me used this version regularly. 4.5 is a very satisfying improvement over 3.5. I will mostly use the 4.5 going forward. - As far as the FS One vs. RealFlight debate - I have actual models that are in both sims. I've flown both sims at length. I find the RealFlight to be more realistic, have better graphics and find it's a more enjoyable product overall to use. And I would not agree with a previous statement that the sims offer an easier flying experience as opposed to the real model. I've spent a lot of time tweaking engine options, props, CG, throws and expo to get the sim versions to fly as good as my actual models. Some of the planes in RealFlight are downright unenjoyable to fly in their standard set-up.
you mean the machine guns and rocket launchers PLUS paintball cannons are not GOTTA HAVE items.......................... I have G5 but the rockets and machine guns bla bla bla are kinda dorkie at best. They really dont have **** to do with RC for the most part. I just dont get it.... RC combat with streamers oh yeah but with rockets whats up with that?

RE: Are Liposacks Necessary?
Ammo boxes are cheap and air tight. I buy 5.56 7.62 .50 in them and they are great! (getting extremely hard to find full cans after the election [:D] ) If you have an ammo box with a burning battery in it you'd better have that box on concrete. Many years ago (decade) we had a thermal runaway on a Nicd and it literally melted its way through the box and out the bottom of the aircraft. It when through 3/8" aluminum and a steel retainer.

Will you be in Bonneville in 09. I have a buddy that's in the 200mph club with a triumph of all things. They have been running a turbo Harley for the last couple of years. It would be a blast to see an electric run. We have been racing cars and bikes for over 30yrs. Im out of the bikes now, I have a wife and kids and don't heal as quick as I did in the early years. I can remember when people would snub noses at the thought of an electric. Now we're all quite and attentive to them.

RE: Are Liposacks Necessary?
My new phone is Lipo as well as my laptop that Im on now. Yep they are everywhere now days. Most of the fires came in the early days, before knowledge caught up with supply. Battery mishaps are extremely rare now days. With all that being said I still keep all of mine in ceramic pot. Im kinda of a tard I guess, because I have so many in so many gadgets around the house.

Are you guys affiliated with the Killacycle in anyway. Ive seen it run, pretty impressive. Not quite competitive yet but interesting. I believe they are running A123's too. Depending on class it will take 400+ and then some to compete with the gassers. At the rate technology is growing its only a matter of time. However I cant believe some of the #'s the turbo bikes are putting down. Its scary to be in the same room while they are on the dyno.

RE: How are the hobby shops doing
Yeah, the only thing I could send back (this was 10yrs ago) were some of the sneak preview items from Horizon. I personally don't know how shops are making it. We made "way" more off a kit than an ARF would ever produce, however you had to stock more inventory. Also some one was more likely to try to repair a kit which they had built than an ARF. We thought ARFs (this is what the distributors said) would invite more into the hobby however the .com shops have taken over. OR you can go on ebay and buy an arf that the mfg is back door selling out of China, Singapore, etc . RC sales are generally low margin anyway compared to other items. All this with an economic slowdown.....glad Im out. DadsToysBG: When you run your own business it seems like you are always at work even when your off. My hats off to you.

How are the hobby shops doing
There is not really a forum for this but its a good question. Its been years since I was in on the retail side of the industry but I still have some friends that are. I guess some are cutting it extremely tight every month. There seems to be quite a few people out flying and this "should" be a very lucrative time of year. However its not panning out. Other shops experiencing the same slow down?

RE: Charger that will do it all
ORIGINAL: RC Accessory You need to be more specific. How many cells lipo? How fast do you want to charge? RC Accessory, Inc Auth US Bantam Importer
ONE charger..........................Period I figured by now they would have something out that would compete. Looks like Red is right the only one I can find that is firmware/software upgradeable and will do most anything is the is the FMA. However its still voltage limited to around 15 or so since it will do only 4 lipos or 10nicd/nimh. I was just in Hahn Germany yesterday and didnt have a long enough layover to chase hobbyshop down. I guess I have to fork out the cash again. I really like the FMA bang for buck. Its obvious I guess why you wouldnt want to make chargers like this. Because you need to be able to sell another charger to them later. Seems like a good business plan to me. I bought my Shulze back when the Dollar and Euro were on kissing terms so it wasn't too bad. This time it might sting a little. Thanks for bringing up FMA Ive liked their stuff. I still have a Einstein (or whatever) and a supernova from 10yrs ago and they still work great!

Whats a good charger that will do over 15 or so Nicd Nimh cells and do Lipo, Lion, A123 etc. Ive been absent from the hobby for about 2yrs and now trying to update all my gear. I had an ISL8 and selling it was the stupidest thing Ive ever done. Thanks

RE: 2.4 ghz Jammers
According to what I have come up with is that you own and control the airspace which exist inside your structure. The only thing that is against the law jamming freq outside of that "private space". After looking up the above mentioned laws I could help but notice the lack of the word "possession". A Church may be considered public since its open to the public but a private office is a whole different story. Im just surprised in fact I had NO idea such things existed. (well not in the civilian market). NOW! When I go into an office building or something and my cell phone all of a sudden flat lines 10 sec after I had full signal I have to wonder a little bit. I know they are not 2.4 but some of these things will do both.

RE: 2.4 ghz Jammers
I guess jamming the 2.4 ghz is a grey area of legality of the cell phone bands is No No. I cant believe the corporate world is so entangled espionage. He told me his last employer had their boardroom and their flight department swept for bugs before board meetings and found them on several occasions.

2.4 ghz Jammers
Well, my family member who is in corporate security enlightened me to the new art of jamming 2.4 ghz. Its actually becoming popular however I'm not sure how legal. They have installed a new 2.4 ghz and cell phone jammer in thier office. It blocks the entire 2.4 spectrum and all cell phone bands. The range is adjustable but the power seems to be quite a bit more than advertised. I guess they are becoming more popular for corporate security because they had a 3mo wait to get the unit which is about the size of a car stereo amp with a few antennas. It also controls personal cell/txt usage amongst cube rats. Wouldnt mind having one at home....When Dad says your grounded from it he means it! Fore more research just search for 2.4 ghz jammers. Anyway for those who fly electric in and near industrial parks, look out. (it stomps out a JR pretty easy at low power way across a huge parking lot)

Well, I will sacrifice a bit of cowel but think I will go fourstroke. Plane should be here in the morning so it will be off to the hobbyshop for the engines. Its amazing how rare the old twin cessnas are getting. I guess parts availability and insurance is killing them. We moved over to Beechcraft but still miss the old bird.

Well, I have to have one. The wife and I have owned and flown a 310Q a while and when this ARF came out its really not a question we get one. Ive owned a couple of RC twins in this size and wieght and found performance ok to marginal with .60's. Has anyone flown one engine out with a 46-55 size engines?? RE: G62 13:1 22x10@8000rpm
OMG guys, you've just about got me ready to pull my hair out. 1) Motorcycle engines started in the same form that our engines sit in today. Look at where they are. My ---->point <----was to prove the fact that our engines have not developed along the same course and they are pretty much the same now as always. They could be a lot more potent but the market is just not there to justify cost. There has been no big techno break through. 2) yeah the 05-06 KX will pull 35-37 on the dyno. I can ride a 250 at WOT all day and Im a big guy. Yeah it will nickel and dime you but it "will" do it. Thats the difference between winning and losing in xcountry enduro races. (and it beats the HOLLY HECK out of ya) But to go apples to apples look the old air cooled bikes of the early 80s. My old air cooled KX250 was just as nasty as my 04 but I couldnt be WOT at low speeds for very long are BIG problems would develop water cooling solves that issue in the modern bike and allows for potentially more power....but our planes always have lots of air available except hi alpha 3d typ flying...... 3) Hey that Porsche powered plane was a Mooney PFM. It was a great engine and a great plane. The problem was that it was full FADEC controlled about 15yrs before anyone even knew what that was. It was awesome to always have peak power and not have to worry about the mixture. VERY few A&P could work on them and eventually the whole program was not cost effective and went away. Before becoming and airline pilot I instructed as was lucky enough to get quite a bit of time in all the old mooneys MSE, TLS, PFM, My wife and I are thinking hard about a newer mooney but Ive always loved the Beech and love the Debonair. As for prop spinning, none of the engines have proper port timing or compression for torque which is whats most important. I would love to build a 70cc stroker that would be in a 60 case. You could swing a big'en then. Truck Racer What do you race??? I race 10.5 true street and use a Cummins as my tow vehicle. They have guys throwing down some nasty 1/4 mile times with diesel pickups now. (talk about an older technology that was under developed) Thats what prompted me to get a mill and lathe and welder and so on.
