RE: Chainsaw Powered Car STAGE II
Ok so after a lot of thinking and digging around in my many boxes of "stuff" I finally came up with a solution for connecting the clutch output shaft to the grinder head. As the clutch shaft is hollow I decided to grind down the shaft from the grinder. I did this by putting it in the powerdrill and running it against the bench grinder until it was almost the right size. Then I mounted it in the drillpress, put a flat file in the vice and worked it until it was as round as I could get it. By putting the clutch underneath it and tightening the vice enough for the clutch to find the true spot, I've got it to where it nees to be. Tomorrow I'll have a go at welding it in place. I'm buggered now after 3 hours of crawling around in a car installing a new stereo and speakers....[:o] Note the dual bearings in the clutch housing by the way.

RE: Chainsaw Powered Car STAGE II
It is tomorrow now. Yeah on the Traktor I managed to join the two with a piece of pipe and a bolt through each end. This time it's a different setup and everything is a lot closer together which is good.

RE: Chainsaw Powered Car STAGE II
Spent some time today trying to work out how to join the grinder shaft to the clutch.[sm=confused.gif] Things like how to join two rods of different diameter without the aid of a lathe is something I face a lot.[sm=drowning.gif] No two things I wanna use together are ever the same size. I have a couple of ideas on how to do it though and I'm sure it will work one way or another. Originally I was thinking of going clutch - sprocket - chain - sprocket - grinder head - sprocket - chain - sprocket - rear axle[sm=spinnyeyes.gif] (I got tired just typing that) It was all too much and would involve too many different moving parts and objects, so I'll go straight link between clutch and grinder just like on the other build. The gear ratio should come in just under 6:1 which shouldn't be a problem given the size of the motor. Pictures tomorrow. Good night. [sm=wink_smile.gif]

I'm curious as to why you want to buy this radio and not just get a "car" radio setup?

RE: Google OS
I watched bits of a program about Google a while back. There was the usual blah blah about how it's the best office in the world with its beanbags and lava lamps etc, but then they went on to interview a few people who work there about this whole privacy thing. They asked pretty direct questions about Google's motives for storing people's browsing history and what they search for. Of course the answers were all the same - it was so they could provide a better search engine. Read between the lines - they see what the majority of searches are for, find companies who supply that product, and charge them more to advertise. When asked if any private information was likely to fall in the wrong hands they of course got all fidgety and tried to dodge the question. Oh no of course not. They don't even have access to it themselves. It's just stored for research purposes and to (again) provide a better search engine. All in all, even if the program wasn't meant to, it made Google look like a ruthless horder of information, both public and private. Google tried to make themselves out to be doing everyone a favour by providing the best search engine and didn't see anything wrong with being able to monitor every keystroke of millions of computers, and store that information. So would I like to have all my stuff that's now on my harddrive stored at Google HQ? Errrr.......No.

RE: 1.6 Million Pound Bugatti car wash
Not everyone lives in a world full of dotted i's and crossed t's where nothing is ever out of place or the slightest bit different. TBJ refers to himself in third person. Deal with it. There is a reason for it which I can't remember right now. Think it was part of some game they were playing a while back.

RE: Something crazy THE REBUILD
Yeah that's true. Could maybe give it a light rub with some fine sandpaper to rough it up a bit for the paint to stick. I'll look in to that. Now I'm off to the recycling and scrap yards to see if I can find another grinder for my Chainsaw build. Hoping to get stuck back in to that soon again. Was gonna rebuild this and put bigger wheels on the front etc, but decided against it and will keep it as is. Probably get some better front wheels for it though, but still keep the tractor look. Or rat rod.

Getting a new pipe for the Traktor. Got hold of an "SS Tuned pipe" for free. (My favourite price [:D]) Might require some trickery to mount it but I'm sure I'll figure something out.

RE: Homemade monster servos
Ok. Would you go on to the electric forum and start telling everybody to get a nitro or 2-stroke car instead? Would you run in to a church and yell "There is no god! You're all wasting your time!"? I bet you wouldn't. When you saw this thread clearly named "HOMEMADE monster servos" and decided to tell everyone that what we're doing is pointless, what did you expect the reaction to be? Us saying "Oh, actually, you're right... How silly of us - we'll just forget about it."? When we've figured this out (and we will) and have built a giant servo for about $100, I think we'll be pretty happy. The difference with us homebuilders is that we keep trying until it's working. We find a way to create something that suits our needs and we enjoy doing so. You keep talking about this "problem". There is no problem, only a challenge to construct something that works. [;)]

RE: 1.6 Million Pound Bugatti car wash
Just found this: "Remember the amazing $1.6 million Bugatti Veyron lake crash blamed on a low-flying pelican? We have the video of it happening and there's not a freaking pelican in sight. UPDATE: The driver responds! This was the story according to the Galveston Daily News: The man, who refused to give his name, was looking at real estate in Galveston. About 3 p.m. a low-flying pelican distracted him as he traveled north on Interstate 45 just south of the hurricane levee near Omega Bay. The man jerked the wheel, dropped his cell phone, and the car's front tire left the frontage road and entered a muddy patch, which foiled his attempt to maneuver away from the lagoon. UPDATE: Thanks to some great follow up reporting by the Galveston Daily News and their sister paper, we now know the man is Andy House of Performance Auto Sales in Lufkin, Texas. The shop, ironically, specializes in repairing wrecked exotics. We contacted House for a comment and here's what he said: I had dropped my phone, people dont know what happened, the arnold story was made up to by the wrecker driver. What it appeared to been was a reflection. We'll continue to cover this interesting story as it unfolds. UPDATE 2: Follow up story from the Galveston Daily News UPDATE #3: We've finally put one and one together. Andy House not only crashed his Bugatti Veyron into a lake, he also owns the now-repaired Eddie Griffin-crashed Ferrari Enzo! " Hmmmmm.....
