RE: HELP! Spektrum DX3s won't show menu
I mailed my transmitter in and they fixed it free of charge, and paid for the return postage too. So all I was out was sending it in. I recommend highly giving them a shot. But be warned - it took two weeks for them to get to mine....so don't figure on a quick turnaround. I give 5 stars to Spektrum service, unlike Futaba who screwed me over on a servo repair.

Heng Long 1/12 scale tanks?
I've been away from the forum for a while but now I have a real dilly of a question. What are these 1/12 scale tanks like and are Banana Hobbies or Your RC Store reputable? I do not see this tank on my favorite site - MatoMart, but that does not necessarily mean that it's a scam or something. Anyway, I'd love to hear if anyone has gotten one of these tanks and what they think of it. And if anyone has dealt with either of the two hobby suppliers too, I'd like to hear about that as well. http://www.bananahobby.com/1139.html http://www.yourrcstore.com/product38.html

RE: terra crusher
Sorry folks, but I got an offer I could not refuse and traded the TC away. But I can post pics of big - I have an HPI Baja 5B now along with a Losi XXL. The Losi is as big as the TC was, and the Baja is 1/5 scale gasoline run.... I am the poster child for "Boys and their Toys". But enjoy your Terra Crushers.... they were great trucks if underpowered and like all Tamiya - built solid!

XXL 454 vacuum leak?
I have a pretty new just broken in 454 that seems to have a vacuum leak. Got it running and performing fairly well, but there are constantly air bubbles in the fuel line and the engine overheats even when running full out without a shell and smoking (although it smokes mostly when turning (???)). The tank is full, and I pressurized the fuel system from the muffler line thru to the carb and there are no leaks at all. I snugged the hi speed needle housing - it was a little loose, but still an issue. Ideas?

RE: Losi LST XXL - DX3S radio problem
Ok, time for a crow sandwich. Took a look at status on my radio this morning, found it had been assigned at 8am, fixed before 9 and ready for shipping back by 9:20. I called them to get the repair invoice so I could pay up and get shipped back, they told me no charge and they pay the return shipping too! So the only thing I'm out is the shipping there and the time for repair- hard to stomache but understandable. Spektrum truly knows the meaning of customer support! I can't wait to get it Back! Of course, now I am at the whim of UPS.... ACK!

RE: Tamiya Allied Green XF?
I've always agonized over the "proper" shade of olive drab, but lately I've realized that it doesn't really matter. If you feel it's too dark, just dust it up more- no one does up their tank as if it is supposed to be stright out of the factory- and even coming out of the factory it was covered with dust! I have a Pershing (US Marine, Korean War) beside my Sherman (WWII) painted with the same OD (Master Modeller) and they are drastically different in color. The Sherman is very dusty and dirty, whereas the Pershing is more of a recently rained on muddy weathering. So the base OD really does not matter as long as it is close.... At least that's my two cents.

LST XXL - drive shaft pickup
I'm in the process of dismantling my XXL for rebuild and found a tiny chrome rectangle in the guard around the front drive shaft. I realize this should be stuck to the rubber boot of the u-joint for the reciever to get the data for the truck speed. However, I do not know exactly where and don't know if it goes on length wise or width wise (or stuck front to back or wrapped around the boot). Anyone know? My manual does not seem to indicate which way it goes...

RE: LST XXL - radio problems
Not too impressed.... when I contacted them, it was "send it in and we can easily fix it" but now that they have it, it's 13 day wait until they fix it. I live in frikkin Winnipeg - 13 days is the total snow free season for me! Ok, I exaggerate but if they have a 2 week wait they should have said so. I reserve judgement until they actually fix and charge me to fix their defective radio but so far Horizon Hobbies gets "thumbs down" from me.... But on another note, I discovered Jenny_RCSport on eBay and have every possible replacement part I might need not just for restoring my XXL, but for any possible bashing damage I might do. I figured out how much this truck had been used - three tanks are missing from the fuel jug, and the cylinder and piston look like new so I'd say.... three runs. [:D] Man, the more I work on it, the more I realize this is THE BEAST of the RC monster truck world. I thought my Terra Crusher was big, but this thing is overkill!

Good call on 1QwkSport2.5r's part! Quote- "Sounds to me like the firmware is screwed up and might need to be reprogrammed. " Well, I bit the bullet and shipped it to Spektrum for repair. They had gotten back to my email stating that it had lost its programming and was easily fixed but only if I shipped it in- no home repair possible. Their repair cost is reasonable too - $30/hr, minimum charge a half hour. So here's fingers crossed....

RE: HELP! Spektrum DX3s won't show menu
I've decided to buy a new transmitter rather than get this one fixed. Unfortunately, it was abused (not by me) and the case is beat to crap and for the cost of mailing in the unit, getting it fixed and shipped back, I would still have a beat transmitter.... whereas I can get a new one off eBay for $100. I'll probably still get this one fixed, but only have it as a spare. But thanks for the info. I really love the DX3s- it is really a kickin unit!

Got a DX3s, when I turn it on it shows CAL VR in the top right corner, and STC on the left side a couple of lines down. No buttons work except the Timer button, which results in same but after the STC it says 518 OK, then on the next line STL. Pushing it again results in the same plus it says at the bottom ERROR:, then on the last line RESET3.2. Any ideas? IT is not under warranty, so sending it in is out of the question....

RE: Resale Value 1/16 Tamiya
ORIGINAL: easyy 11 Its sad that they are not worth what we think but reality is the new ones are much more realistic and run better . I
It would all depend on what the buyer likes. I have three vintage KT's (one Porsche), one Leo and one Sherman, and the most fun is refitting them and setting them up. Of course, if I were able to participate in battles, then it may be different. But for just having fun the old ones are great! As for the new ones running better, that may be true but if you were going to get a Harley would you get a new blockhead or an old Pan or Knuckle? Me, I'd go for the tempermental old fart Knuck any time! Of course, I am a little weird that way - I like fixing more than using all of my toys.... Flycatch, don't sell your KT short. I would agree that it is not worth as much as a new one but is still a Tamiya King Tiger - one of the finest RC models ever created! And depending on how nicely you did it up, it might be worth even more. That being said, I have bought my vintage Tams at a cost of $75 to $350, depending on how beat or unique they were. I hope this helps you out.

RE: a Saturday afternoon find....
I have done the only fair thinkg and offered the Leo to my Dad. Ever since we got into this hobby together, he has always wanted to get a "modern" tank. Myself, I love the WWII and Korean war era. So I hummed and hawed for all this time, working on putting in a Mato brass gearset, and thinking on how happy this tank would make my Dad. Last night, I told him he could take it off my hands. We talked and he agreed to wait until I finish mounting the gearset - the mounting plate needs to be mounted at a slight angle to have the driveline at the right height. My Dad taught me all I know about tinkering, but he's 71 and this is a bit tricky. Anyway, it will soon be his. It's only fair- he got me into tanks, and I've been lucky enough to have gotten deals on 3 Tam KT's (one a Porsche) and a Sherman. This will be his first Tamiya. Thanks everyone for the help and advice and for the manuals- my Dad will really appreciate them and I know that I really do.

RE: What radio?
I bought a 6 channel 2.4GHz with receiver from Hobby King, with shipping it cost me $50. I have absolutely no complaints with it. The only thing, it is PC programmable so if you need to reverse a servo orsomething you need to order the cable (extra). I think it was about $5 more. ASnyway, it is their own brand, and I recommend it for tanks. For flying a plane, I don't know if it is quick and reliable enough at great distance. But for my tank it is aces!

If you think that the recoil is the issue, unplug the recoil unit and try again. Everything should work without the recoil unit being plugged in, and it will tell you if it is the cause.

a Saturday afternoon find....
Gotta love going with my wife and her friend for an afternoon antiquing.... We stopped at a neat little shop here in Winnipeg called Pop'N'Eye and found a real treat - a Tamiya Leopard tank. It was there on consignment, originally for $400 but at this time to get rid of it the price had been dropped to $75! I know it needs a lot of work to bring it up to snuff (it still has the original clutch steering system), but it came with a Futaba 2 channel pistol grip radio and receiver (working), and even an older ESC! As I am also into RC trucks, these parts can be recycled over to my trucks making room for a modern dual gearset drive, esc and of course at least a 4 channel radio to control this beast! It even came with spare parts and two batteries! It doesn't fit in with the rest of my tanks, but the parts alone would have been worth the $75, and it's a Tamiya..... nuff said! Whatta you all think? Salvagable?
