RE: How to handle a difficult pilot!
Perhaps, it really shows that he is not some cowboy out looking for fight but someone who was concerned enough about doing the job he was tasked with and when he came hear seeking answers was railed by the typical tail-pullers. If indeed that was the case, it is hard to blame him for not having anything else to say. He has nothing to gain by it, and everything to lose, which could also include a flying site that is shared not only by his club but by other fliers who obviously do not have a problem observing the etiquette displayed by the majority of the people who use the site. Whether you think you are right or not, it does not give you a license to act like an azz anytime you feel so obliged to do so. This is typically one of the things children learn in kindergarten, but fail to utilize it thru their adult years.

RE: Black Smoke???
I would think a viable solution, though not practical might be to have an onboard oxygen tank with atomizer in the line with the smoke fluid. If the engine is not equipped with a pipe, the flame at the tailcone with the injection of oxygen and fuel will leave a pretty awesome flame, but the result will be a black smoke in the contrail of the aircraft. if the drone is big enough a small pony bottle full of oxygen might be a possibility. Justa thought.....

i have the older green versions with 7 to 8 pounds of thrust. Would be a nice airframe for it I would think. Thanks for the info.

Ronnie, Will this model fly with the older version Wren 44, the 7-8# thrust versions? or does it require 10 pounds? Thanks Tommy

RE: Kellogg's AD5 Skyraider Build
Wow...great timing. I have one of these on my bench as we speak. It purchased it and it was already framed up, but not finished, so I am in the process of finsihing it up. It is a great looking bird, and according to Mr. Kellogg, it is follows the scale outline. I have the Sierra retracts, and they are very impressive. Darryl does a great job, and these are no exception. I also have the Ziroli Skyraider and even though they are different models, both are quite impressive. Mr. Kellogg is also very good to do business with. I ordered parts (tanks and wheel covers) from him and they arrived within the week. The glass work is excellent and the fit is very good. Perhaps I can get some pics upload this weekend of my bird and you guys can help me out. The plans are to power it with a 3w70, which hopefully will be enough power. Estimated weight is around 36#. I will be paying extra attention to this thread and look forward to seeing your progress. Thanks for making it public. Tommy

You have a lot of gall, after "waving" your national flag to come here and diss the US for fighting a war on terror. You can't throw a rock at a hornet's nest and then when they come out stinging, run and hide....

chris, Those look good. You may also want to provide them in some form so those of us with vinyl cutters could do them in a mask format. I have a vinyl cutter and for some of these such as the teeth, it would be nice to be able to cut out a mask and paint them. Any word yet on the power plant options to be offered by Tam? Tommy

RE: CGRCJets A-10 Build Thread
That is awesome, does he have this file available and redy to sale? If so he can defintely count on selling another set. And if Tam's 6 cell system will fit in the A-10 and ly it with authority, I am think this will defintely be the way to go. The RamTec fans look the part, but I am worried about the weight. Besides it would be more economical to use two 6 cell packs instead of 4-5S packs, thats for sure. This thread is turning into a very informative thread. I may learn something yet...LOL

RE: CGRCJets A-10 Build Thread
Tam, That video is certainly impressive, and I don't think it sounds to far off from the A-10, it has a distinctive whine, but it has a ton of "get up and go", that F-18 looked very impressive on the fast fly by. How much flight time are you getting on the 10S packs, and what type of batteries are they?

RE: CGRCJets A-10 Build Thread
Ron, They were purchased (RamTec) from a dealer, they aren't knock-offs. One of them is unassembled, while the other was assembled with the Skorpion installed, and balanced by a guy in California who does this sort of thing. My firend bought them and has offered them to me to use in the A-10, but the more I look at it, it looks like it would not be a good combination, I'll use it in something else. The 6S setup that Tam will be doing might be a much better compromise. I am all about keeping it lighter. As far as sound goes, the real A-10 has a whine that to me sound almost like an electric, so as long as they are "blowing" I will be happy. I'm in no big rush, so I will get with Tam when he gets back to work and discuss his recommendations as well.

RE: CGRCJets A-10 Build Thread
Thanks for the updates. I finally opened up the boxes with the fan setups which I got from my friend who had decided not to use these and got out the paperwork. I misspoke, they are not Dynamax fans, but Ramtec (although I think they are essentially the same size). They are a little tight in the nacelles, and will require a little trimming of the hardwood mount in the nacelles, as well as trimming the tabs on the side of the fans. Before proceeding I am going to wait and hear from Tam. These fans feel very good and stout, though I have nt run them yet. With this Skorpion outrunner on them they would have no probelm pushing the plane around, BUT they feel heavy. I have not weighed them, but I bet they are near 1.5 to 2 pounds each, which is a lot of weight to add to this model, by the time you put 4 servos in the tail. Too many questions. BTW, which servos are you recommending for the elevators? flaps? ailerons? Keep up the good work.

RE: CGRCJets A-10 Build Thread
What kind of thrust can you expect using the 6S setup of Tam's, Ron? I wanna save weight, but at the same time I don't want to be to borderline on the thrust, just in case. Did the original model use one of Tam's units, CGRC? What was the original set up on the protoype? Again, with this lower diameter fan, how much changes would need to be made to the duct inlet, and the thrust tube for the nacelle? Thanks

RE: CGRCJets A-10 Build Thread
Will there need to a thrust tube built into the nacelles, or can the nacells work the way they are made? I have held a Dynamax fan unit up to the nacell and the forward lip mold perfectly into the edge of the fan, but like some of you, I am concerned about the weight. This fan with the Skorpion motor seems robust (have not run it yet), but it also feels heavy. My guess is that it will weigh much more than the Wren 44, but again I am looking at about 80% more thrust. I may have to look at Tams EDF unit and price it before going with these two.

RE: CGRCJets A-10 Build Thread
Thanx Mike, That is some of the type of info I need. I am assuming by using the lipos on this plane with the weight, I would be using at least a 10S pack on each nacelle, so I could use 4 x 5S packs (to make 2 10 cells). What size packs should I be looking for? and what "C" rating (20C, 25C, 30C)? Thanks

RE: CGRCJets A-10 Build Thread
Well I have two of the smaller Wren 44's, the older ones (about 8 lbs of thrust), air start, but am really thinking this would be ideal for some of the newer EDF units with much more thrust. I am not familiar enough with them to be sure of what I am getting, so I will defintely be asking questions. For instance would it be better to use the A123 or the lipo batteries? Which will weigh more? Cost comparision? I am looking at some of the Dynamax conversion packages with the Skorpion motors and Castle Creation speed controllers recommended by a friend.

RE: BH t-28 trojan maiden problems
The design of the T28 is such that it has a long tail movement. It is much like a pattern plane and does not require a huge amount of elevator to be effective. I would go back, put the recommended throws in the model, add a little expo to the high rates, recheck the CG, and make sure nothing is loose inside like a battery pack or something that could have moved during the taxi. This time don't let the TP just gun it and take off, ease nto the throttle and let the plane reach take off speed and then ease into the elevator. There is no need to snatch one off the ground on a test flight (not that he did, but am speaking from experience). The T28 is a good design and generally when balanced correctly they fly very weel, but you don't need alot of elevator or rudder throw in these models.

RE: MIG MASTER- Updated w/maiden photos
Woody, All I can tell you is, it won't rotate till its ready, keep the AOA shallow till it builds up speed (you may not have my probelm, I was flying with a smaller turbine). As it gets up on step, it is like a pattern plane. Very stable, and will slow down to a crawl, BUT it will snap in an instant if it gets too slow, so get up high and give it a try and get the feel for it. Righting it after the snap is easy. Just like a trainer, ease of the elevator, build up a little speed, and ease back on the elevator, it will start flying again. It slows down pretty well. I never tried the flaperons on mine, but I would keep their angles of deployment shallow as well to start with. You aren't gonna have any problems with it, and you are gonna love it. Make it look sweet in the air to make Barry jealous. BTW I don't see nothing in your install that bothers me, those wire wraps thingies that Barry uses are for girls.....LOL

Woody, Looks great, I am glad you got it built. I hated to get rid of the kit, but Mr. Yockey out did himself, and as usual did a beautiful job. Let me know how it flies, the other one flew great. Looks very realistic in the air. Tommy
