RE: NEW HANGAR 9 CHRISTEN EAGLE
The only drawback on the 1.25 is that the muffler will not reach outside the cowl and you need an extension. I have not used a Pitts type muffler but that might provide the solution to the problem. Power wise it is a great choice.

RE: NEW HANGAR 9 CHRISTEN EAGLE
Yeah Andy, thats what i said. No more babying it, now I can fly it like I stole it. I alsready used up one of its lives. Could not believe it when I was coming in to land I fully expected it to roll over any moment, but it settled in a like a trainer. SOme guy came over and complimented me on my "skillz", I just laughed, thank him, and wondered what I had done that was so impressive. The plane did not even act like it had lost a wing. If you had not seen the left lower wing sitting at a 45 degree angle to the other three you would not have even known there was a problem. Guys, don't get cuaght up in worrying about the incidence and changing the CG. Use what the book recommends. Assemble the plane and go fly it. It is nice and lfies like it is on rails.

RE: NEW HANGAR 9 CHRISTEN EAGLE
I have a Saito 125 on mine and it is plenty of power. Balancxed and flies great with no more than 1.5 ounces of lead on the engine mount. Was flying it Sunday and noticed the left wing tip was slightly fluttering, just as I pulled up into a snap roll. At it came out of the roll, the left lower wing seperated and appeared to be held on only by the servo wire and the cabanes. I leveled off, and it did not appear to want to stop flying so I throttled back, used rudder to make a shallow turn and headed for the runway. Landed with no problem. The flutter had been induced by the cabane attachment screw on the bottom getting slightly loose. The flutter caused the wing holddown screw inside to vibrate lose and it pulled completely off the alumnum rod. Lucky to save it, but nothing was hurt. Put a new screw in, tightened the caban screw down and flew it again. The planes flies and looks great. Gets small really quickly though so pay attention. I love it.

RE: London Olympics are fantastic!!
I am not a big Olympics fan, but I thought the opening ceremony with the Queen and James Bond was absolutely fabulous and a testament to the sense of humor and traditionism of the people of the UK. I was proud for them and admired their fervor. It is tough in these economic times to please everyone and to even have a big turnout for an event, but the people of England have a great deal to be proud of...as far as I am concerned you are putting on a first class show! Cheers to my English brethren!!!

That sounds good. I have a brand new K-140 that needs a home, but was worried about the fuel. Looks like the 140 will be the power for this beast.

SM-Extreme F-4 1/9 scale questions
I have one of the first SM 1/9 scale Phantoms which was produced, and flown, as a demo model. It is pretty light, and looks like it was originally flown with no flaps. I am in the process of stripping the finish and applying amore scale paint job and refitting the aircraft for flight. I have not found a lot of information on this plane, but the specs say it will wiegh from 16-22 pounds. I want to install a Wren 54SS (about 18-18.5 lbs of thrust), because it is a sipper when it comes to fuel and it is a super light weight engine. Do you think it would be adequate, fiorst since this is known to be a draggy airframe and second you will obviously lose some thrust due to the bifurcated pipe. Second I have never flown an F4, but always wanted one, so this is a cheap way of getting the ride....haha....so I am wondering about the utility of going the extra route, and adding the flaps along with the increase in weight. I want a nice flying sport model not a competition beast, so I would like to stay away from the extra work if it is not necessary. There have not been many of these mentioned in the forum that I can find so any worthwhile information would be appreciated.

RE: Boeing hard landing in Japan-video
Got it Beave, The rapid deployment AT touchdown is the preprogrammed sequence. I forgot it was an auto feature, and was for some reason thinking it was deployed right prior to touchdown. That makes plenty of sense. Watching the video here, it does not look like he engaged the reversers, but just lost lift and smacked down pretty hard. Like running out of elevator that last 20 feet or so. I would have thought carrying a little extra power on the touchdown would have prevented that, but the aerodynamics of my small single engine is definitely different than this heavy monstrosity.

RE: Boeing hard landing in Japan-video
David or Beave, As a full scale pilot as well, tell me how the introduction of spoilers helps to alleviate that situation, especially in a crosswind and gusty conditions. I am not being a smart azz, I really would like to hear the reasoning behind it. Are most all of the landings in the heavy airliners done with spoilers deployed, or what conditions would they be detrimental? From watching the video, I surmised that it was gusty or crosswinds as well that caused it, because the airplane settled so quickly, but from the angle you were watching it was difficult to see how he approached. In any case, glad to hear all are OK and that there was a reason for it. One would hate to see someone qualified enough to fly a 767 make rookie mistake and bend metal, without a reason.

RE: I Have a New Respect for Turbine Engines
A couple of years ago I had the displeasure of standing near another brand of engine that had a catastrophic failure on a test stand. This one started out as some type of electronic failure that progressed to a runaway fuel pump that cause the engine to over rev and ultimately to a bearing failure with a huge fire and some dirty underwear. I will admit there had been some complacency on both myself and the owner's part up until then, but from that day on every time I start a turbine I assume it is going to fail and keep my extinquisher nearby and keep bystanders out of the danger zone. You have to respect these engines.

Parts for PCM L-1011- Looking
I am looking for someone who would either share a part for reproduction or have access to some crashed parts for the PCM Models L-1011. In particular I am in need of the plastic ABS inlets used on the wing nacelles. If you have one I Could borrow for a few days to make a mold of it in order to produce one I would certainly appreciate it. I bought a kit but it is missing this piece. This is the inlet with the molded fan blades and if I am not mistaken it is sorta molded flattened along the bottom. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Tommy

RE: flying close to small airport Police on the scene
If you were close enough that ATC was aware of you presence near the flight path (as you hinted in your statement) then you really have no argument. Full size aviation will always trump your RC flying, as it should, since the safety of a pilot and his full scale plane takes precedent. The church, when likely confronted with this dilemma and the possibility of lawsuit should something happen, will also probably tell you to skedaddle. This is why flying at a designated flying site is always a much better alternative than flying at a place like this. It sucks but it is a sad reality.

RE: Jet Flyers Beware, scam artist Shaun Evans loose
Most FOD screens fit on the engine starter motor pretty tightly. If you slipped a FOD screen onto the engine thru the intake, you would certainly have felt a cracked starter motor mount, if not cracked it yourself, trying to get it on. It is hard to imagine there being as much damage as you claim and the plane was even partially flyable.

I think the serial number on the KingTech turbines is in the same place they are at on most turbines. As I recall they are on the side of the can, right near where the strap attaches. The number is not on the cone as I recall.

RE: Jet Flyers Beware, scam artist Shaun Evans loose
Island is it possible that the rough landing, after the gear fell off, could have jarred the engine, and was it running when it landed? Is it possible it ingested dirt at that time? I know I had a Festo fitting crack inside the cover of a JC turbine once, and when you tried to the start the plane you would get a fire out the front of the turbine. If this was the case, then it is possible that this would have burned your lines and tubing. In addition, it is not uncommon for these Festos to crack due to pressure from inside the turbine if there is failure of the selenoid valve or absence of this valve (especially in the case of a propane starting engine, though I understand yours is a kero-start). It is something to think about. The environment in Trinidad (weather) is certainly much hotter and humid than that of California or Colorado so again things will loosen and require adjustment from moving to a different environment.

Shaz, Shaz, Shaz....now you have done it. You have outed the double secret US-led Kero-sniffing Mafia who is hell bent on screwing guys in the Caribbean. I had just learned the secret handshake and now you have outed the whole bunch. I know a lawyer in Colorado I can call if it helps.....[:)] All I can say is that I have done business with Shaz - no problems, and would not hesitate to do it again. I have gotten tons of information from Shaun and never had an issue, and would not hesitate to do business with him. Four months is too long to go without letting the seller know you had a problem, and I agree with most of the previous posters....if this engine was that damaged, it would not have gotten that F-18 in the air, if it did not catch fire when starting up to begin with.

The best selection of short kits is available from Norbert Racuh out of Germany. All of his models are 1/16 scale. Do a search for Rauch airliners and you will find it. They are not a beginner's kit however and require some experience or ability to probelm solve. Good luck. Tommy

From looking at the video I would have thought the fire weakened the tube and then it imploded. The thing kept on burning, we used up two extinquishers before we got it out. Thanks for giving us the real cause, and sharing the video. RE: Should be working, but I'm playing...
Beech made a great airplane. They suffered the fate of most private aviation companies between lawyers and a downturn in the economy, they basically had to stop manufacturing GA aircraft. Interestingly I found out that Beech sold a number of the Musketeer Series (sundowner, customs, etc) to the Canadian government for military trainers. These aircraft could be rated for acrobatics, but mine says general utility and that is where I want to keep it. I have noticed that the extra weight they carry makes them a little less bouncy in the light turbulence compared to the Cessna 172 and Cherokee 140 I have been flying. Might be my prejustice bleeding through, its hard to tell. What were you flying in the video Mark? Nice landing BTW.....[;)]

Yeah....haha....I prefer to be left of center, but only on the runway.....If you look really close you will see a friggin moth on the windscreen, I was on the centerline till I looked down and saw that thing, I thought it was a bee, and I almost bailed out. Besides if you fly like you're drunk it will make it easier for the cops to find you. Mine is 1971 Beechcraft Sundowner, 180 HP, fixed gear. Only 2700 hours on it when I got it.
