RE: AMT ECU Battery for Pegasus
ORIGINAL: Dr Honda What version ECU do you have? I don't think they early ECU's will like Lipo Power. Not to mention... there is no guard in them, keeping them from over discharging the Lipo. And... as above... if you use more voltage... the pump, starter, and glow voltages will be off, and need to be re-adjusted. (for a V2 ecu) Just throwing in my 2 cents.
Dr H is correct. Look at the ECU and note the version and engine serial number. Email AMT the information and the question to confirm. I think that v1's are stuck with NiCd or NiMH. Details on how to change the settings are on their website. Always change the settings with a NiCd pack. Be careful with the glow plug setting once a LiPo is connected. There is no low voltage protection, but with a 3Ah pack you will get at least 8 flights before a charge is required and it won't start if the voltage is too low. Regards Dr J

RE: 1/8th scale B-1B
Sad to see it being sold..... not at all. The money will help pay for Bob to build a lighter version using glass- PU foam -glass sandwich lay-up. Maybe the buyer will also purchase flying wings from Bob too, which are work in progress after the F-105's are done. If you have ever done composite work, you will know how much these materials cost. They are not cheap.

RE: CompArf Ultra Lightning or Pirotti Tuono
The Tuono is more difficult to transport around because of those 'stub' wings which carry the undercarriage, similar to the JMP firebird. If you have a car it would be worth checking dimensions. If you are not in rush to get airbourne, go Tuono. I don't have one but I have seen one in the basic kit form. I believe you can get it painted in the factory but at a price.

RE: B-2 Bomber 15 ft wing span
ORIGINAL: invertmast Awesome! i'll keep an eye on the thread. I've always wanted to build a B-2, matter of fact, i've got some templates pictures and some drawings from the late ivan munninghoff's B-2 bomber.
Hi Thomas, This is the first I have heard of Ivan and his B2. Do you know whether Ivan's model was a successful flyer? What happened to this model (kept by family?) Does any video or flight photos exist that you can share? I found another thread started by BJay in 2009 (B for Bernd) but original post has been deleted and no further posts occurred? Any news on what happened? It goes without saying that these flying wings require careful design and accurate manufacture to make them work well...... Best regards Andrew

Wow! And as B1-bob would say....."oooohh dogie". Without asking many questions (but I really want to) how much time (roughly) have you spent designing this? Will it require electronics to augment flight stability? Does the photos show present progress or is it much closer to flight test? Kind regards Andrew

RE: Freelin-Wade Airline
When I enquired at Freelin-Wade to have a delivery to the UK < Outside the US > they wanted to charge a fortune for shipping! Sorry i cannot remember the exact figure but it was over 100 dollars. It made this method of purchasing tube a no-brainer! (It was not a small quantity about 500ft in total, but it would easily fit in a medium size box) I questioned this level of charge, got a polite reply, but did not get the answer I wanted and got nowhere. I got the impression that they prefer small orders to be US only.

RE: MODS FOCUS ON THE VIRUS
For me RCU is performing perfectly as normal! Although recently I had a problem as described below.... My PC picked up a virus, which was not picked up by my virus check scan and automatically deleted or quantined. It was a file dumper trojan that was uploading god knows what onto the internet. It really slowed by PC down until I got rid of it. I found it by looking at the upload and download speed when the PC is idle. It was running 400kb/s upload! Found the relevant .exe files by threat checking system files (with low risk threshold) with my Virus software (Nod32 - brilliant), and manually deleting.

I say put the price up Dave. Andy should too. If someone wants one and there is limited availability, people will pay. Personally I am not interested in a P-20. Nobody invests in R&D and works all week for no return. Mr Jetcat is no different! .....You asked for opinions, you got one!

Here is another article / video on the same UAV called 'Demon' developed by engineers at BAE Systems in Lancashire, United Kingdom. Test flight was made on Walney Island, off the Cumbrian Coast. Notice that it still has a rudder. Maybe a later development will use vectored thrust for yaw control? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-11431662

I have read that deflecting the rudders inwards provides better directional stability at low airspeed.

RE: JetCentral Cheetah for Bandit ARF
In my opinion, 31 pounds of thrust is TOO MUCH for the Bandit ARF airframe, regardless of whether it may fit and you can find a bypass and pipe to suit. You will probably over-stress the airframe if you are not careful. I am sure that BVM will NOT approve the use of this motor in the ARF. If you want to go fast, get yourself a Super Bandit! Take care and fly safely.

Weatronic 2.4 delivery times
Hello, Can you tell me how long it took for your 2.4 weatronic orders to arrive? (Time from pushing the order button to delivery on your doorstep). I am normally quite patient and I am not in a hurry to receive it, but if the items were "in stock" I would have expected them to have arrived by now. I have not had any feedback by email (yet). (This was my first order). Many thanks. Andrew.

RE: bvm bobat not happy
I agree with Dustin. A 2mm lateral difference in gear position will NOT affect the ground handling. I've built 3 bobcats (3rd in progress actually) and one of them was similar to this one in terms of the position of the internal structure relative to the skin and boom flanges. I never measured it, but it turned out just like any other bobcat. The U/C on this plane is just brilliant. It can take so much punishment whilst others bend or break and go back to the workshop. This is one of the reasons why you pay top money. The flexplate design enables at least 2mm of deflection at the tire/runway contact point in a crosswind or lateral load conditions. A friend of mine was flying his in a heavy cross wind and on landing a small part of the plywood that stops the flexplate bending downward broke off. This went un-noticed but even with a considerable amount of lateral play in one of the gears the plane was perfectly manageable and was flown for the rest of day. Just get it finished and fly it! Make sure that your wheels are aligned straight, i.e. no toe in or out. And I suggest you replace those cable ties holding the brake lines with the nice metal holders included in the box. Even using some silver duct tape would be better, because that brake line is at risk of binding the gear during retraction.

RE: Woodsprings 2009 Red Arrow jet CRASH, UK
I absolutely agree with pilott28's comments / request to keep these accident/incident or crash videos off the general public domains like youtube. The reason is simple - its is all about the public's perception of our hobby (on both sides of the atlanic ocean!). These sorts of videos, including the ones that show irresponsible behaviour, will ultimately harm our ability to operate these aeroplanes in the way like to. The voice of the general public has a strong influence on the people that write our laws and regulations etc etc.. Hence, public perception of our hobby is extremely important and we must all do our bit to ensure that this remains as positive as possible for now and in the future! These videos don't go away, they stay on internet for years. Continuing to post this sort of thing will lead to the perception that we are irresponsible and our models crash all the time - which is simply not true. I also agree that any electro and mechanical system has the potential to fail, despite having back-up, redundancy or whatever. If we all ensure that we put the best equipment in our models, build in as much redundancy as possible, maintain our jets and monitor there useage over time and fly in a safe and responsible manner (regardless of being at a model show or not) then we can do no more. The loss of an expensive model is gut-wrenching for any builder/owner and I offer my sincere condolences to Steve and Matt, but I am sure they will get back on their feet.

Classic Jets #37 - UK
Having spent nearly 3 consecutive days in the sunshine, the first of these at Classic Jets, I am a little behind on the times, but here are some photos from the event. Many thanks go to Dick and band of helpers for another successful day. The stiff south westerly wind and facing west toward the sun made both flying and photography tricky in the later part of the day. Some more will follow.

Here are some more photos...... The Gnat was just awesome. I was told that the model (my appologies if any info is in-correct) has been scratch built by Paul Keevil. As yet unflown. JC P-80. I am sure many of us wish Paul the very best for its first flight. I could not resist adding my 'shot of the day' photo of its fullsize counterpart in action at the recent Kemble airshow, smoke on at a huge number of knots! (see next post)
