RE: J10 Vertical launch
Looks to me like its a foamie. Would explain the engine right at the VERY back...and the rearward CG helping it stand on its tail. Cool but I think seeing the CARF Eurosport 3D hover and fly is really impressive when the pilot has the balls to get it down on the deck.

RE: Jetpower 2012
Tomahawk Quantum Mono and 2.5m Viperjet look tasty. Mono looks like a mid-range Futura with that top wing removed and only different with the rounded intakes. Would be interested to see what schemes they come in. Don't see that on the Tomahawk site yet. [image]http://claregrace.brinkster.net/rc/tomahawk.jpg[/image]
ORIGINAL: Joe Westrich That's exactly what I was guessing would happen. So you don't think it is unstable on take off with it being slightly tail heavy?
Definitley not. If anything it helps.

RE: Does anyone have exp with SM MB339?
I didn't build mine but after 10 flights I've got used to it being slightly tail heavy on take off and having to trim out the changing fuel load during the flight. Only 2 or 3 clicks though.

RE: Futura 1.9m Build
ORIGINAL: smchale Dom, what distance do you have from the bottom of the mounting rail to the wheel's axel?
20cm from the bottom of the stock ply mount to the middle of the axle. Wheels are 6cm diameter. Shim is 1cm and was mainly added because the width of the electric retracts was narrower than the mount. My nose retract is 100Deg with the trunion block reversed so it comes 10Deg above horizonal into the fuselage.
ORIGINAL: haisanjafri One more thing   How you guys did manage to raise the height of nose gear for short take offs? Some packing inside struts?
I put some additional ply under the stock mount inside the fuselage but I'm not using the stock retracts, am using LADO R999s.

RE: HobbyTopgun MIG-15 with Kolibri T25 turbine! *video*
Great projects. You put the engine in the tail for obvious reasons but don't you then have a problem with the CG shifting to the rear as the fuel is consumed? If I could get hold of a second hand P20 I'd like to do the L39.

RE: Skymaster MB339
Ah OK. Found that one of my flaps would resist moving any further but I am at the recommended throws from the Skymaster website so didn't worry about it. I'll score the live hinge with a blade and see if that solves it, then try slower with more flap. Cheers.

RE: Futura 1.9m Build
ORIGINAL: lxfly Did it like DominicM. Glued some hardwood in the ends of the tube and cut a thread in the drilled hole to use threaded screws.
Good idea putting some hardwood in the tube itself. I'll do that.

RE: Futura 1.9m Build
ORIGINAL: smchale - what are guys doing for mounting the stab? I don't see anything pics on the cd, but did see one of Ali's that looks like the tubes are permanently fixed to one half and a single bolt in each tube on the other side. Is there some hardwood blocks burried in there somewhere?
No hardwood blocks as far as I could see and I don't think that's a problem because the skin is fairy thick and there is no lateral force on the countersunk screws through the bottom of the stabs into the tubes. Getting the holes in the bottom of the stab lined up with holes in the tubes isn't easy and my tubes were a little short so had to centre them in the fuselage first. Then you put one stab on the tubes and draw parallel line to each tube along its centre. Drill hole into the stab about 2 inches in from the root. You should go through or at least scratch the tube itself so you can remove it and drill holes in the stab and tube that will accept a countersunk screw. Do this on one stab first. Then screw the stab to the tubes on one side, put it into the fuselage and do the otherside. If you don't have the first stab attached while you drill holes for the second good chance you'll get the holes in the wrong place. That's how I did it. No doubt someone will chip in with a MUCH simpler approach I didn't think of. [8|] Regarding retracts I went with LADO electric so can't help you there. Bellmouth? Find the widest point and push gently. There is some flex in the top of the fuselage fibreglass.

RE: Futura 1.9m Build
Best bet is to go for Electron or LADO electric retracts but obviously if you do that you'll need to buy the trailing link struts and wheels separatley. You'll need the electric retracts first so you can take the measurements for the struts. I think both companies are working on electric brakes but they're not available yet. Best go with air and a UP3 valve.

RE: Info from Data Terminal after a shutdown
ORIGINAL: ModellbauUK Just a thought. On  my pumps the plastic shielding holds the pump to the motor. Worth checking that air isn't getting in there. Trying jiggling the pump when running the turbine as this may mimic movement in flight.
Will do. Possible I suppose that the movement in flight could be disturbing something like the pump. I'll test with some jiggling and see if any adverse affect on running. Thanks for the suggestion.

RE: Info from Data Terminal after a shutdown
ORIGINAL: ModellbauUK Did you say you had air in the uat Dominic?  If so I would certainly look at the plumbing.  Maybe air us getting in in flight which doesn't happen when running on the ground.
Yeah, some but not much. The CAT is always 80% to 90% full. Marc of GBRJets has told me that's normal. I'll double check with him though.
