RE: Wing Tube Fastening
beech 18, The bolts go through fuse side into a threaded hole in the root of the wing NO holes in tube, will cause cracks. Ask me how I know. Old Lanier lasers did it that way mine cracked. Don

RE: TOC Laser
Thanks for the info. My new Laser will not have washout. I'm surprised Lanier put washout in that wing after doing more reading on another forum. Besides that was years ago and ideas change. Don.

RE: TOC Laser
Thanks for your reply and info. I've had two other Lasers and enjoyed both, each one a little lighter. Another question, what is the down side of washout in a Lanier wing? Again great job and thanks ! Don.

RE: TOC Laser
speedracerntrixie, I'm going to scratch build a Laser and really like what you have done. I have the Lanier laser plan and will cut my own foam cores. My first question is will your fiberglass parts fit a Lanier laser? If not what needs changed? Are you using the stock Lanier airfoil? Also did you cut the stock washout? Any help would be appreciated, thanks! Don.

RE: Unionville DeHavilland Beaver kits, 6 and 8 foot winged kits
The horz. stab is too small on the 6' Beaver. It's 20" should be 23.75" on an 1/8 scale plane. Full scale is 15'10" stab/elev. Someone should fix the kit! Don.

RE: Bob Nelitz 1/3 Scale J-3 Short Kit build
Bryan, I never tried to mig parts this small. Bob Nelitz suggest silver braze so thats how I do it. Brazing is easy to learn, just takes a little practice. Silver solder is not strong enought for this application. Don

RE: 1/3 Scale J3 Cub Build
The dowel fits tight in the groove and is three feet long, plenty of friction. I tap the dowel in and pry the dowel out with a screw driver. Your cut is very lite nothing moves. Just did 10 dowels no problem. Don.

RE: 1/3 Scale J3 Cub Build
For those building Bob Nelitz cub to plan. Here is a SAFE way to cut the flat and groove the dowel on a table saw. cut 1/4" dado (slot) in jig board. install dowel and cut flat per plan. Reset fence and blade to cut 1/6" groove. Matsushita makes 1/6" thin blade.

RE: Bob Nelitz 1/3 Scale J-3 Short Kit build
eddieC, This landing gear is the Bob Nelitz design on the third scale cub plan and is very accurate. Also have factory drawings of gear, and Bob did a great job. Just about dead on. Remember silver solder is low temp.Like Stay-Brite a common silver solder is only 430 degrees Silver brazing is high temp 1200+ degrees.Bob talks about this on page one in the original magazine article. See page 1 post 42 for magazine article. more pics. parts bead blasted, ready for metal prep & primer. First pic just brazed.

RE: Bob Nelitz 1/3 Scale J-3 Short Kit build
Hi, EddieC, I used Harris Safety-Silv. 56% silver brazing alloy. My local welding supply has it. Hang on to your shirt as it is $$ was $60.00 a troy oz. I paid $48.00 three months ago, no telling now. I love the way this product flows in the joints, and very strong! More pics.

Hi, Not sure why a channel is shown on the plan as no channel is used on this design of landing gear. Go back to post 89, see misterbill pictures of gear, should clear up your thoughts. Those 4 parts make your two front pivot points, see pics. Go back throught both cub threads will help alot. Don.
