RE: 74 inch Mono with 4-cylinder engine
If you can ever make it to an event, its worth it. I don't run much any more but go just to take a few pictures, mingle and enjoy the sights & sounds.

Where to buy a scale 4 blade prop ?
Static use only. Where / who makes a scale 4 blade prop in the 22" + diameter for either the Corsair, Mustang, or Jug? Please point me in the right direction as I'm pulling my hair out. I've seen one here at TBM and its very nice but its a flyable prop. I'd rather save a little and just go with individual blades as I'm in the process of milling out my own hub. If going with this one, I would end up cutting it out myself and inserting it into the hub. Any ideas? http://www.troybuiltmodels.com/items/BP2410-4.html

RE: Spring Air Retracts - Opinions Welcome
Called earlier this week and had a good time talking with Bill. We chatted about all kinds of plane stuff and he made me feel very comfortable with the purchase. Thanks for the feedback and looking forward to my first set of air retracts :)
ORIGINAL: JeffH One thing to remember is that when you disconnect your air supply, the gear comes down.
Thats something to keep in mind as the wings will need removing for transporation & storeage. Hopes are to also find a spot in my office for display from the ceiling and would prefer the gear be tucked in. For the money though, guess it could be mounted on the wall :D

Spring Air Retracts - Opinions Welcome
In the process of assembling my H9 150 size P-47 (the 81" version) and want to upgrade the landing gear to pneumatic over the mechanical-spring junk. And not spend a bucket load on it. My question is has anyone used gear from these folks? The price seems quite reasonable and I can still use my struts. http://www.retracts.com/index.htm Many thanks for your opinion, -Jr ps, posted over at RCGroups but would like a little more feedback before going further. :)

RE: New Prather 46inch HELP!!
Surface drive is going to be fine on that boat. Go ahead and do it and you should be able to squeeze out some extra performance as well (though the boat isn't a speed demon, it will benefit). If you want to take a little cheaper route, go with the stand off bracket from WHH with the strut & rudder (strudder kit) so that way its only five holes in the transom (4 mounting screws & a new one for the shaft log). Maybe even consider building a turn fin. Other than that, enjoy it.

RE: New 81
Landing gear is giving me fits. Took the cheap route and ordered the HK retract servos here and they just don't fit porperly. [link=http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=5341]Hobby King Retract Servo[/link] Wonder if I should've went with the JR servos like they suggested in the manual instead? Having said all of that, could someone please take a few minutes and snap some detailed pictures of your servo - to landing gear installation? Need to see especially how they mount up, the spacing between the servo arm and the bracket. Also noted that the instructions call to tap the mounting holes for the mounting screws. I'm not overly crazy about doing that and would love to somehow put a nut over it but the servo arm hits. Thing is, this bird will not be flown for quite some time and will serve as a conversation piece. Otherwise, my head is still banging against the wall till this part is figured out. -J

Wow thats gorgeous RC74. Can anyone tell me how far the flaps need to extend when at maximum throw? I've had issues getting mine lined up and now after they've dried, it seems to be a bind but not till 40 degrees. Is it enough? If so, I'll keep chugging away at it. :)

RE: Who else is starting a Zipp kit Hydro?
Ron, you're a hoot. Kosovo sucked btw but it was fun to get out of the office for a few days. Lurk quite a bit but don't have much to contribute. Due to relocating (two times in four years and possibly a third within five) the boat is in the attic awaiting the deck installation along with a busted up Team Pro. My Pops will be here this summer and since he can't stay idle for more than a few minutes, it will probably give us a father son project between touring around. The craftsmanship in post #39 is something else. Keep it going and maybe it will motivate me to get mine out. :) Peace, Jamie

RE: Debonder - can you REglue the same spot?
For the future; when installing CA hinges you put the hinge in the slot then apply the CA when hinge position is correct.
So THATS how you do it? [&o] I've always glued aroudn the hinge and then tried to insert. Dooh.
Cut the ailerons free, then make new hinge slots and re-hinge.
Will do. Fortunately its only one airleron that needs the attention. The other was measured out at less than .8mm space.
Glass cloth makes a very poor hinging material if that's what you used.
My apologies for not thoroughly explaining it. They're the H9 CA hinges that came with the kit. Lastly, thank you for your responses. Seems I'll do some extra work and just rehinge. Peace, Jamie

Debonder - can you REglue the same spot?
I'm kind of himmed up at the moment and goofed up. Installed the airlerons to the wing with fiberglass hinges and my glue set way to quick and ended up with about a 1/8" gap between the wing & airleron. My question is: Can I safely debond the hinges - let the area dry for a few days - and then reglue using the same slots? (could even use accelorator in the holes or a drip of rubbing alcohol to help dry it out?) Simple method would be to just cut the slots off to the side but I'd rather wait to hear your answers before persuing the new route. If not, this isn't going to be pretty as I'm not wanting to mess up my new H9 P-47. Thanks in advance, Jamie

RE: New 81
Ok gang, I've got some giant scale newby questions. See pics for details. Plane arrived this week from a private seller. There are few things missing or either I got an earlier version. Ball joints for the retract servos- How to use them? Is the setup like I've shown in the picture and then the clap slides over it right? If so, the screw is not long enough to secure a washer & nut on the control arm. Control Horns - Can I use the ones posted in the pictures? (plane didn't have them in the kit) Missing: Dummy radial engine (not the huge nose piece, but the engine panel). The mount for the tail wheel. I've got the tailwheel wire that the wheel mounts to, but not the mount that holds the wire to the rear fuselage. Hinge pins for the flaps Hinges for the other control surfaces (which I've got plenty of, they just were not in the package). Thoughts.... The retract servo installation is giving me fits. I ordered retract servos from HK (same size as the ones in the article) but they don't mount right. Just a few issues to get worked out that will make me appreciate the assembly much more. Lastly: I'm wondering if it will be worth an email to Hangar 9 to see about replacement parts as I'm not wanting to accuse the seller. The seller did an outstanding job of boxing it and overall, I'm very pleased with the transaction, just that the kit seems to be missing a few minor things (could've been an earlier version?) Peace & many thanks for the detailed response :)

This is already getting interesting. :D Got the engine in today (50cc version) and just stared at it for a while. I'm used to the Zenoah 26 PUM's for the boats but having a CDi for ignition is going to be sweet. Can't wait for the airframe to come in. Now to find a deal on those 4" wheels and a 22" prop. (I like to shop around).

RE: New 81
Dag-nabbit!! I miss counted the servo's. Have six Hitec high torque standard size and a couple of new retract servo's = 8... again '8'. Didn't realize this booger takes 10-! Will probably end up using a couple of 1/4 scale's from my gas boats. Perhaps one for the rudder since it will be used with the tailwheel and another for the throttle. (btw, I've got plenty of 9g servos for my foamies as they've been my primary birds). Come on Mr. Post Man.

Tim, thanks for the offer but I'm strapped during the holidays. It was your posts through another thread about the CRRC 50 engine that lead me to this monstrous group. After studying the pics, I might just attempt to build my own prop for static use. Now if I can better my milling skills on the lathe & turn out a nice spinner to fit it. Any ideas on the wheel size? Currious how these boats are holding up over long term sportboater useage. Reason I'm asking is that my Rockett is unfinished (over two years now) and that I don't have experience with wood builds. Naturally the good stuff would be used.

RE: Heilbronn this weekend. Might have to pay a visit
Hallo 'Jungs,' Matho, there is no doubt that to put on such an event as huge as Heilbronn has been known for over the years takes lots of work and dedication esepecially from the sponsoring club members. As a former Modellflug Club member in Bayern, I was introduced to the 'ethics' of being such... meaning they expected me to pay my initial fee of about 300 euro and then 80 euro each year. ON TOP of that, they also expected club members to participate in '16-30 hours during the year for work days' to clean, maintain and perform various chores of the club AND assist during large events sponsored by the club. -*note that some members took the easy road and did nothing leaving all the work agreed upon to other members. It was hard for me to accept as I like to pay my dues, show up, fly, clean my mess and go home but I did what it took to be a team player. The German way of conducting business is different but unique and has qualities at the same time. My biggest point was not to put any one or any organization down, but the Heilbronn RC Boat Fest is something I'm proud to visit and brag via photos to our friends that can't attend. This year though, it was short in a lot of areas. With a huge organizational effort in the future everyone can run their boats and let the spectators be drawn in and hopefully recruit the next generation. Hope it works out for the better next year.
