John Deere 110G????
I'm looking at picking up a used John Deere 110G trimmer to convert. I've spent the last hour searching this site and the internet for the make and CC's of this engine but haven't found it. Does anyone know who made the engine and it's CC's? Thanks.

Small EPP plane for Park300, 10A ESC & 700mah LiPo?
I recently had an E-Flite Funtana 300 until I tested the structural integrity of a ballfield lighting pole. It was very solid. The plane flew well in "sport mode" but had a lot of coupling in knife-edge and wasn't too easy to hover. I would now like an EPP plane because I hear they are very durable. I don't like the looks of the flat-out style of plane; I'd prefer some sort of square/rounded fuselage. Is there anything in the 8-12oz range that would fit the Park300 motor, 10A ESC, 700mah 3S lipo, 2.4ghz Rx, HS-55 servos? I've searched the threads, internet, catalogs, etc. and most planes seem to be 14oz and over. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks. Doug

Futaba micro to Spektrum trainer cord?
My nephew is learning how to fly RC and has a Spektrum 6-channel system. I have a Futaba 9C. Does anyone make a Futaba micro to Spektrum trainer cord? I've seen Hangar 9 makes a Futaba round to JR cord. They also make a Futaba round to Futaba micro adapter. That just seems like a lot of connections to worry about. Thanks for any help. Doug

4-in-1 Rx crystals?
I just bought a Falcon 40 and have been using the stock 4 channel Tx. I'm wanting to change the Rx frequency so I can use my Futaba computer radio. Will Futaba Rx crystals work? If not, it looks like you have to order a Tx/Rx set. Just got done spending a couple hours searching this site and another for the answer, but nothing. Any help would be appreciated. Doug

RE: Reprogramming a Futaba display & 2.4ghz antenna?
I don't like having the antenna hanging off the back of the Tx; I think it looks cheap and like a quick fix to the antenna issue. I do agree that it is easier to see the display while on its back but I already have a Tx case with the foam cut out to fit. If I remove more foam to fit the rear-mounted antenna, it will be resting right up against the back of the case and not provide any foam cushion. The 2.4ghz wavelength requires a certain lenth antenna. That is why FASST, DSM, Corona and 2.4ghz wireless survellience equipment all use the same length of antenna. The Futaba transmitters that come 2.4ghz from the factory use this short antenna so it shouldn't be a problem.

Reprogramming a Futaba display & 2.4ghz antenna?
Has anyone ever heard of reprogramming a Futaba (8UAFS) to show more display characters in the model name? I really like my radio but wish it had at least 8 characters to name models with. I would be willing to give up some other display area for this. It isn't worth selling it and buying a 9C or similar to gain 2 characters. Also, I have a TM-8 2.4ghz module that I'll be using "forever" and will replace the 72mhz extentable antenna with a 2.4ghz antenna. I'm looking at the 6EX or 7C 2.4ghz antenna as a good candidate. Has anyone used these antennas? I've seen pictures of people that have used the Spektrum antenna and it worked well but the pivot is about 3" above the Tx case. Futaba's antenna pivots very close to the TX and would be desireable for storage in it's case. Any help would be appreciated. Doug

Fast drying glue for plywood door skins?
Hello, I'm going to build a pair of gas-powered seaplanes this winter for a buddy and I. I'll be using plywood door skins in a lot of it and am wondering if there is a glue that will set in 1-2 hours and be strong yet semi-flexible. I think Gorilla glue would be great but it takes hours to expand and set. I've tried "Tacky" in the past but it didn't set fast enough. CA doesn't seem to stick or penetrate well and epoxy seems brittle and expensive. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks, Doug

You could try something like this. This is about a 3:1 ratio and I origionally ran it on a Ryobi 31cc. I didn't have it balanced well so I made a starter out of the belt and pulleys. I think I ordered them from Fastenall about 5 years ago??? Costs weren't too bad either.

RE: Who makes this engine?
Thanks for the replies. I don't have this engine yet. I am considering picking it up but don't know the size and don't have any more pics or info. I was hoping someone has this same model and could look at the emissions label and read the cc's. Modern John Deere trimmer models are listed as their horsepower (105C is a 1.05hp curved shaft trimmer, 140 is a 1.4hp engine, etc...). If this holds true, this would be a 1.1hp engine of around 20cc or so. The 105 models have a 19.8cc Mitsubishi engine. Motorboy: As far as I know, John Deere doesn't make any of their trimmer engines......

Funtana Plans? I have a model if someone wants to draw them up.
After searching this site, and the internet in general, for the past couple months, I've run into a deadend on finding Funtana plans. I realize it was an ARF kit. A few fellow RCU'ers have said in the past that if they can get ahold of a specimen, they would draw up some plans. Well, I have a .40 size Funtana that has very little damage if someone would want to do that and share them. I would love to scale it up slightly. PM me if you're interested. Thanks, Doug

AV8TOR I guess that's another way to skin a cat. I've always used the traditional: pi x radius2 x stroke = 3.14 x (1/2 bore x 1/2 bore) x stroke. 3.14 x (0.625 x 0.625) x 1.1 = 1.349 cu. in.

Looking for Mitsubishi 19.8cc engine
Hi again. It's been a while with a new job, a 2 1/2 year old kid as well as LOTS of other hobbies. A few days ago I read a thread on here about a Mitsubishi 19.8cc engine out of a John Deere 105X trimmer. Apparently this is a very light, pretty powerful engine. I'm looking at converting another .40 size fun-fly plane. If anyone has one they would part with, I would appreciate a PM. Thanks, Doug

RE: Can Funtana 90 take a SPE 26CC Gas motor
That should be a great match. A few years ago I put an Echo 21cc on a .40 size Funtana. All the usual critics said it couldn't be done but it actually flew very well until I hit a barbed wire fence. The Echo conversion weighed 32oz. w/all accessories so your plane/engine combo should have an even lighter wing loading. Give it a go and let me know how it flies. Doug

Try a search on here. This topic has been covered numerous times. I know it will take some sorting through but it is worth it. It gets tiring starting or adding to an extensive thread to have the same question asked over and over and over again. It's not worth retyping everything. Try searching for Ryobi 26cc. It's the same engine except 26cc.

Are these the same 23.6cc engines talked about on other past threads that have a lot of HP for their cc's? Turbo Raven????
Hello, After searching through all four pages on this forum, I haven't found anything on the 3Dfoamy Turbo Raven. Has anyone owned/flown one? What was the weight? Wing area? Battery? I would like to buy/fly one as my first flat foamy and first extremely aerobatic plane. I just bought an import 1050kv, 150watt outrunner motor and 18A controller from a large internet auction site and already own four micro servos, a Hi-Tec Feather receiver and TP 3s 1320 LiPo battery. I figure the weight of this radio/motor gear will be about 8oz. Will this equipment be powerful enough to fly it well? I would like it to fly with authority and possibly be able to pull out of a hover. Thanks, any info would be great. Doug

RE: Fuel tank size for newbie
The nylon works if it doesn't need to be flexible. It gets stiff and yellows over time. If it will be a permanent installation and you won't be pulling off fuel lines to fill/empty tanks then go nylon and make sure to secure them to the nipples (twist wire). Otherwise use Tygon or equivalent. Don't forget to factor in the cost of all the gas you've burnt in your car to save a couple bucks!!!!!

I had a custom TIG welded aluminum muffler built, put on a CH Ignitions ignition on it, alum prop hub, tried 3-4 different carbs, tried it inverted...... Not a real powerhouse and 4# RTF(w/muffler/mount). You can't just swap on any old carb, as the 4-stroke has a small return spring on the pump diaphram because the 4-stroke carb operates off of vacuum pulses. I tried swapping all sorts of springs into different carbs but nothing worked as well as the plastic rotary 9.5mm stock carb. I will someday try a regular 2-stroke carb and put a "T" fitting in the crankcase breather tube hose and tap directly into the carb pump to supply positive pressure pulses. You "can" run this motor inverted but it doesn't like it. Mine lost about 1000 rpm being inverted. You will also have to store your plane upside down to prevent the oil from running by the rings and into the head/plug/valves.

RE: 80 cc Twin DOHC
Dan, I must say I'm very impressed with the twin. I brought up the relationship between 4-stroke dirt bikes and aircraft about a year ago and many people had a harsh response. I too think they are short sighted. Look at the Yamaha YZ250F and YZ450F (and now Honda's twins). Their engines borrow technology from the R1 which borrows technology from formula one and Indy. They have made their 4-stroke dirt bikes on par and arguably better than the 2-strokes. They are nearly the same weight, more hp, more torque, better economy, cleaner, easier to ride, etc. If anyone wants to argue that point, ask them if they own or have ridden one. Chances are they haven't. If we could take that technology and design our aircraft engines with it, such as Dan has, then they would be awesome. Maybe not 5 valves per cylinder and 13,500 rpm redline. I started a thread looking for feedback and interest in a 50cc single that was crankcase supercharged and had electronic valves. Many good ideas came out of it but there were the usual nay-sayers. In the meantime I read a complete book on sandcasting and have met a couple people here that cast alum. and want to cast the cases/cyl. I'm about done with another book on machining. This winter I'd like to start on this project using what I know about motorcycle engines as a start. Dan's BEAUTIFUL engine has given me more inspiration. If people listened to the ones who say it can't be done, we would still be living in caves trying to kill dinner with rocks and sticks. Doug
