RE: Futaba GYA351 setup help?
Picking up a used Avonds F16 this weekend, which is what whetted my interest in the aileron gyro. The Avonds doesnt have ailerons, though, just elevons or is it ailerator :)

RE: Futaba GYA351 setup help?
ORIGINAL: quist I have one on the ailerons of my f16. I have the gyro gain channel set to work with my right dial. It allows me to adjust the gain while flying. It works great. My gyro atv's are set at 75. This is the max gain available. Then as I turn the dial towards center the gain goes down. This is true for both normal and heading lock mode. Dial all the way left is full normal mode. Center is off. All the way right is full heading lock mode.
I'm curious. What is the need for, and the advantage of a gyro on ailerons. Understand possible need on rudder or tail wheel, but ailerons?

RE: Need Some Advice From the Experts
No matter what you are flying....prop or jet, flying IMAC will make you a better pilot. Just the discipline of linking smoothly one maneuver into another, and keeping wings level, flying a straight line without any altitude change parallel to the flight line, will make you a better pilot. You don't even have to compete; just fly the basic and sportsman pattern with an IMAC pilot at your side to critique you. I'm amazed at the experienced pilots who have never flown imac before and are given a sequence to fly, who just can't fly a straight line and are all over the sky. Tight oval shapped loops, inabiliy to hold straight heading in a crosswind, rudder use only for taxiing, floppy hammerheads that are off vertical on the way up or down, are all common mistakes from an experienced pilot having never practiced IMAC. I think your best investment to preform better with you sport jet would be a 50cc IMAC plane (extra, yak) and fly first the basic and then the sportsman patterns with the help of an IMAC pilot. Without seeing the maneuvers being flown properly, and without advice from a IMAC, you would be just practicing errors

RE: The new Tornado sport jet
Biggest problem was matching the cub yellow ultracoat with spray in a rattle can. Finally decided on Testors yellow which is very close. Problem is that it is not jet A fuel proof. Kryon clear and Top Flite clear react. (wasn't I glad I tested it on the bottom hatch first). Finally, poloyurethane clear did the trick

RE: PST Panther advice
I'm kinda in the same boat. I'm presently flying a Modelbau Tornado with a K-80. I've got about 25 or 30 flights on it and it's getting pretty ratty looking. I"m looking for an airframe to put the K-80 in. I'm working on the installation of a Classic Flash witha P120 SX. I will probably dial down the thrust on the 120 initially so that it's not a huge leap from the Tornado. I am considering a PST Reaction for the K-80, but as I am wondering whether the P-120 will be too fast for me initially, I'm wondering whether the K-80 is too little for the Reaction. It's a bigger and heavier airframe than the Tornado.

RE: The new Tornado sport jet
No, it goes in one piece by the sliding door. Front passenger seat forward, then fish it in nose to rear. Just got to be carefull getting the stabs in. Wings fit easily in the width by the sliding side doors. Piece of cake:)

RE: k-80 needs new home
Actually I do have a classic Flash that I recently picked up, but it is using a P-120 SX for power. I'm still doing the installation on it. Refinishing the Tornado is an option, but glassing an already assembled plane is a chore. Even recovering the plane would not be easy

k-80 needs new home
My k-80 is looking for a new home. It is presently in a Modelbeau Tornado. The Tornado served its purpose; it allowed me to get into jets with a low cost airframe, and get my waiver. The Tornado is getting ratty looking, with the cheap chinakote tearing and wrinkling. I am looking for an everyday sport flier to replace it with, that is matched to the K-80. I am considering a Shulman Turbinator, PST Reaction or a Boomerang Elan. The Turbinator is probably the best matched airframe for the 80, but it is wood and Ultracote covered. It's also relatively expensive. $1100 for the airframe and almost $200 for delivery. The Reaction is composite and costs $1600 delivered, but could probably use a bigger turbine. The Elan also could use more power than the K-80 Anyone have any other suggestions, or have any comments about my choices? Thanks Jerry

RE: Shulman Turbinator
Thanks fot the link.....but that was a one off pre production model. David just recently got the shipment in and I was wondering if anyone received it yet and had comments about the quality. This one from last year looks real nice though. I've got a K-80 that's currently in a Modelbeau Tornado. The Tornado is starting to look ratty now, with the cheap Chinakote tearing and wrinkling all over. The K-80 is looking for a new home. Would be nice if the Spring Air gear I got with the Tornado would work on the Turbinator

Thanks for the info guys...makes sense. That's why I spent the time reading the thread. I've been in this game a long time, but I try to learn all the time. It's also why my next step was into jets. Lots of new stuff to learn as well as to put knowledge and experience into something new.

RE: C-ARF Flash Build Thread for All Flash's being built this winter
I've just spent a few days going through this entire thread to learn as much as i can about the setup of the Flash. Without naming names, I noticed that at least two individuals described setting up their differential on the ailerons with more DOWN than UP. One individual had 5/8" up and 3/4" down, while another had 20mm up and 22 mm down. I'm wondering whether this is a typo error or indeed the proper setup. Having flown pattern and IMAC for a number of years, I never had a set up with more down than up. More up aileron is needed to compensate for the greater induced drag of the lower aileron. At any rate, I getting ready to maiden my classic Flash with a P-120 sx in the next few weeks. I got my waver last year on a Tornado with a K-80 in it. Looking forward to flying the Flash

RE: The new Tornado sport jet
I had some flex at the trailing edges of the wing, so I used them as anti rotation devices by epoxying into the wing and putting a hole in the fuselage for them to slide into.

RE: gorilla glue vs. epoxy
I tried using GG on a 40% Radiowave Extra and it failed. Perhaps for smaller applications where we are not dealing with the heavy banging 2 cycle gas engine, but I would never recommend its use for any firewall in a giant scale plane.

RE: Futaba S-Bus system
Ditto what KC said...I'm flying the Tornado which is essentially a falcon and I use the multiplex connectors. Each connector is 6 pin, so your 4 servos in each wing boil down to just 2. Use the male end of one connector for 2 servos and the female end for the other 2 servos. This prevents getting the connectors mixed up. No need to use the S-bus. The other end of the multiplex that has the rudder and elevator servo connects to the boom via regular servo extensions and disconnects from the boom when taken apart

RE: Regulation passed the House
ORIGINAL: PilotFighter don't know where you're getting your information, but the range of properly tuned rc transmitters is considered to be 1 to 2 km, or about 1.2 miles. That is why the AMA requires a 3 mile spread between rc airfields. This was mandated before the 2.4 explosion
ORIGINAL: BobbyMcGee  It may have been incorporated because technology advances have given us live video feedback (First Person Video for @ $800~ $1,000) that can allow somone to successfully fly their plane a mile or more (if they have that range)
The FPV equipment does nothing to increase the range of your RC transmitter, (which is typically 2500 to 3500 feet). And it is against the law for you to modify your radio, (to increase its range). You simply cannot fly over the horizon with the FCC licensed radios that we currently have. It is a false rumor that people are doing so by means of FPV. They might be flying slighty further away than typical, but only slightly. In the past and in the present the FCC is the agency that has determined the limit of the power output of our transmitters and thus the limit of their range. In the future, the FAA is (presumeably) going to limit our range to ''line of sight''. Although the two agencies have arrived at thier definitions in very different ways and for different reasons they have both arrived at nearly the identical range limit.
