RE: New Avalanche XTR - Servo too weak?
The steering servo on the original was too weak also. I bought a pretty good one off of ebay that has held up well... after burning out three stock servos.

RE: single speed swap on a tornado
It's pretty easy. I swapped my single speed in my Shockwave for a two speed..... switching it back to a single. I find that the two speed didn't have enough torgue for my liking. It had speed out on a hard surface like a large parking lot, but not enough torque to get dirty in the grass and gravel.

RE: Official MONSTER XX Truck Thread
ORIGINAL: XGAMER777 How funny! I was actually looking to buy that buggy (or a clone of it) not too long ago. I think it's one of the best looking buggies around. Especially the nose.
The buggy is a Redcat Shockwave. They also make it in a two speed version called the Tornado. (My Shockwave has been upgraded to the bigger Tornado engine and two speed tranny). They use the same body on an electric version. Several companies sell the car, it is made by Himoto and badged by Redcat, Exceed and a couple of other companies. If you get one, get the Redcat. They have better customer support. I can't speak for the electric, but the nitro is a good little car. I had a friends daughter drive it full speed into a concrete curb. It had to be doing 40-45 when it smacked the wall. It broke the wheel ($12 for a new set of 4) and broke a couple of other cheap parts. I rebuilt with "Bionic Man" quality parts. Carbon fiber shock towers, new aluminium chassis, aluminum steering parts, CV shafts and more for about $50. I could have rebuilt it for about $20 if I would have only replaced what was needed and used stock parts. This was it before the Beetle build was done. It kind of sucks in grass. Get it on flat hard packed dirt or pavement and she hauls...... Oh, you can pick it up RTR for about $120.

RE: Official MONSTER XX Truck Thread
The Beetle body is made by Proline. I love the Bug bodies. Due to the dome shaped roof they are very strong. I have a couple of them and plan to get the bigger one for my 1/8th scale some day.

RE: Official MONSTER XX Truck Thread
If you he wants a good electric that is the way to go. Pick up a nitro roller and convert it to electric. They do tend to be stronger. I know most of the guys running electrics at the local track are conversions.

Suggestions for making the DF02 stronger.... you may want to get a second job. lol I have spent a lot on this puppy. As for recomending something different, are you looking to stay with electric or is nitro an option?

RE: Which redcat truck should i get?
I don't really understand why people say "don't get a nitro if you are on a tight budget." It's not that expensive. I buy a gallon of fuel for $30 bucks and run for several weekends. Many weekends. The stuff last for a while. My electrics however may not need fuel, but being that they are not made as tough I find that they break more often and in the long run cost more for repairs. In fact, out of my four cars the nitros are the only ones that work right now. Both of the electics are down.

RE: which nitro should i go with?
Go with the Pro class (XTR/XP). They are worth any additional cost. The Pro class is built much better than the Ultralite Series. I have an Avalanche XP and I have two buddies that have Pro class 1/8th's, one has the same truck as me and the other has a Monsoon XTR. We also have friends in our group that have the Ultralite class 1/8th vehicles. The Ultralites are nice, but no where near as well built as the Pro series cars.

I haven't been around due to just plain being busy. I have been working on my 1:1 truck (recovering the seats this weekend) as well as doing stuff around the house. I sprained my ankle really bad a week and a half ago and the our plumbing started acting up and out kitchen flooded, etc, etc... My poor cars haven't been out of the closet in weeks. :(

RE: EarthQuake 8e Wheel and tire help
I put HPI Warlock rims and HPI Dirtclaw tires on my Avalanche. They are a bit smaller in overall diameter and make the truck a tad narrower. I would use RPM Stablemax rims if I had to do it over, they would make the truck wider, but I like the tires for off road. Just make sure you strap them with duck tape. They are lighter than the stock tires but the downfall is they baloon if you don't strap them, but then again so did the stock tires.

RE: Servo? or just wheel size?
The steering servos are the one major weak spot on Redcats large trucks. They just don't last with the large heavy wheels on the 1/8 monsters. I had to change mine after the first few runs. I replaced it with another stock servo and it went out too. Just replace it with a stronger unit and you will be fine. Some of the guys on here can make some good recomendations, I just can't think of the actual model numbers right now. I replaced mine in my Avalanche with a servo that I got on Ebay, it has held up so far.

Yeah, the dude stopped and started talking to me and instead of bringing his board over to my tailgate where I was setting up the truck he left it like 15 feet from us in the middle of the parking loy drive area. I ran the rc down to the other end and came flying back and SMACK! At first I thought it was ok, but a few days later I found a huge crack.

RE: Official MONSTER XX Truck Thread
lol, not too good guys. I ran it into a punks scateboard at full speed and cracked the chassis. Why he left his board in the middle of the parking I have no idea. I just got the new chassis last week but I sold the motor/speed control to a friend so he could build a car for his girlfriends daughter for her birthday. I will rebuild it as soon as I get all the much needed work to my 1:1 truck done. :(
