RE: homelite ?
I've found a few people that would do it for a small fee in the past...usually $15. I'm sure you could perhaps find used.

I personally have never seen a duplicolor that was fuel resistant. Lacquer itself does not hold up well with gas.

Well, I know well enough to know you're not keeping that boot on and cutting your hatch....or would ever use a spoon as an intake (ugly).....you would definately buy a nice one that's not included in your "order to go" bag. I suppose you'll just have to mind where your hands are when starting that thing a little more. At least you can wrap some electrical tape over the exposed wire in case you get a little close!

RE: Turbine Powered Airboat
It would be intereting to see what you come up with. My only experience with turbines is what Remy tells and shows to me at Aeromarine and watching his turbine powered Sprint Cat hit the pond. So I guess you could say I have experience with these things, definatly would be more if I actually owned one of them! I mentioned the impractical piece as I was comparing the prices of the piston power to the turbine. Also thinking of absolute worst case scenerio with a total loss of either one, which would you rather lose. The cool factor would definately be there, no doubt.....love the attention they get everytime Remy takes his out.

RE: Turbine Powered Airboat
With the cost of these units, that would probably be the most impractical r/c boat I've ever heard of! That type mounting would have absolutely NO protection for the turbine from spray, nevermind a flip. It's not a question of IF, but rather WHEN. Would be cool to see though!

Nice video's of turbine speed boats, I think he was referring to AIRBOATS.....mounting the turbime above the hull, and not inside.

Been hearing a lot of good things about these engines lately. Perhaps my gaskets were never seated properly??? Who knows, running them with a 1" band pipe never had a mechanical failure, just thoes leaky gaskets.

RE: SIKK engines
Coulden't agree more Dyna. Too many people out there giving advice on what they have only read about, or what their "friends" tell them, or "I know a guy who........". I feel that unless you have direct experience with a certain topic, or product you have no business talking about how bad something is.....that still won't keep certain people from posting. Just need to remember to replace that paper gasket it comes with......two of my CY motors developed leaks shortly into the break-in procedure, ....at least until I replaced that paper with copper.

RE: waxing hull...or sanding?
Thanks for the link Matt. Definately makes sence, and I certantly am not saying that my ideas were absolutely correct.........just my own thinking. I would really like to see research on this. More testing in a controlled environment to see what the differences would be.

RE: waxing hull...or sanding?
Yeah, another thread beating a dead horse. But since it's here......I'll leave my $.02. Think about this. Most information that is passed through this site comes from heresay, and not actual testing within a controlled environment. Parasitic drag is caused by moving a solid object through a fluid medium, in this case water (air is also a fluid medium). Once you even dull the surface or even worse, scratch that solid object, you have significantly increased the parasitic drag of that object. In simpler terms, a waxed car has LESS parasitic drag than a car that is full of rust. So my sanding (or scuffing) you INCREASE drag! Another point....look at a finish on a car (or boat) that is shiny, and waxed up....the wax (or polish) REPELS water...it dosen't want it on it's surface so woulden't it make sence to have the bottom of your hull to repel water? One last thing.....anything that skims across water that creates little pockets of air or air bubbles is loaded parasitic drag. Again, these are just my educated opinions so take it however you like. I teach this stuff at the college level and am fairly sure I know what I'm talking about. Main thing is here if scuffing the running area speeds up a boat, it is so miniscule no one would hardly notice. Unless someone has scientific proof that it works and I'm not talking about gps speeds (very inconsistant) or lap times since conditions for repeated attempts are never exactly alike, I'll continue running with my mirror finish and waxed hulls.

RE: How Do You Lay Your Fiberglass?
ORIGINAL: Deathwish I had a question about fiberglass. Do you lay it in one giant piece, patches, or other. Can you also use like tissue paper (which is thinner and light weight). Just a thought.
Tissue paper used to blow your nose.......and does not have the strength that strands of fiberglass has so no, with almost 20 years working with fiberglass on my own and in boat repair and manufacturing shops I've never heard of that. UNLESS of coarse you're speaking of a very light weight glass cloth in which you would have to add MANY layers to get any rigidity. There is no magic formula as to what is the BEST layup. To get the best answers to you without turning this thread into "who does the best layups", or "this material is better than what you're using", we need more information..... Are you working from scratch on a mold laying up your own hull in it? Are you doing a repair? Are you thinking you need to add another layer in an existing hull for extra stiffness? (rarely ever necessary by the way). Would like to help you, just let us know exactly what you're doing. In the meantime, my website has TONS of information on how to lay up a hull similar in size to the one you mentioned. It shows how to fill the corners and tight spots to actually laying in the glass. www.firststatecomposites.com/howitsdone_.html

Hey Tony, I just tried editing your picture however now the system dosen't let me re-attach it back to that post. Give it some time and I'll try again tomorrow. Happens to me every now and again as well. Nice progress. Getting ready to rid myself of several boxes that are now filling up my shop so I'll be able to get to painting your Nemesis shortly. Have a few more hulls to layup as another motivator. You bought the newest RCMK, right....the Evolution?

That is because your servo can't take the stress imposed upon it at speed. Get a stronger servo, and watch it magically turn better.

Swap out your rudder servo for a stronger one. Mine turns great left and right at speed once I swapped out my servo.

RE: Super G' owners ~~ This is our thread
ORIGINAL: Doubledog Dremin', How hard would it be to remove a few of the strakes & sharpen the keel up? Would it be worthwhile and potientially gain any additional speed? Mine is for sale now but looks like it might be staying with me may as well make it into another test pig.
Could definately be done, just in my opinion may not be worth the effort to gain any notable speed. Not sure how wide the strakes are so that would effect how easy the work is. If they are filled in with cabosil bog and glassed over, just need to simply grind them down flat, block sand the area and repaint. If they are not just filled in and actually glassed into the dips of the strake area of the mold then when you grind down the strake, you will have holes that need to be repaired with a backer on the outside and glass repairing from the inside. A little bodywork of course and painting will complete the job.
Be interested to see how that race goes - have someone record it [;)] If both were stock it would be pretty close. Rio will probably be a little more stable but I would bet the WHH will stay together longer [;)]
That Rio may suprise you. Had mine launch over 30 feet or so in the air after it hit the bank and slam sideways into hard packed clay dirt. Just added some road rash and perhaps a little gelcoat crack, however that little bugger held together. That flange going all the way around really adds strength.
