6J System?
An extensive review of the Futaba 6J system has been posted on another website. It is not compatible with FASST technology and I don't understand what purpose this system is intended to meet. Can you enlighten us?

RE: Tiny Long Lived Diesel Engine?
If you want a silent, self-starting, clean-running engine why not try a Stirling engine running on an alcohol burner. Kits and completed engines are available.

RE: Tiny Long Lived Diesel Engine?
This doesn't sound feasible to me. You will need to mix up diesel fuel and make a field storage and transfer container that will prevent the volatile either from leaking out. Then you must come up with a generator and circuitry to do the charging. And trying to enjoy the wilderness experience with the sound of the engine and the smelly, greasy diesel exhaust wafting over the campsite is not too appealing. Isn't the idea of camping to get away from all of those gadgets? Why not try a solar charger?

RE: Why no switch?
You can have an arming switch on a brushed motor. But the ESCs for brushless motors have a large capacitor which will fry any reasonably sized switch when the switch is closed.

RE: Quaker Flash
For sport models the recommended guideline is to reduce dihedral by 50% if ailerons are added. Each aileron will be 1/4 of the wing chord and 1/4 of the wingspan. This is from the November, 1995 issue of RCM by Paul Denson.

RE: Anyone have this happen??
Several years ago I bought a Futaba radio system from Tower. A week or so after it arrived I saw an ad in a new issue of a magazine witha lower price. So I called Customer Service and they gave my account a credit for the difference in price. I thought that was fair.

RE: nose length?
You can do some chopping and the plane will still be OK. I built a Blitz from Aspect Aviation and it was wildly nose heavy. I moved the fuselage mounted servos behind the wing and even reconfigured the receiver pack to fit at the rear of the fuselage. Still no good. So I held my breath, took out the razor saw and whacked off one inch of the nose and reset the firewall. (This was a .25 size engine.) The plane flew great. The attached photo is my later redesign of the fuselage which kept the shortened nose and it also is a wonderful flyer.

At the bottom of the Overview page click on the red text for Receivers, Transmitters, etc. They are not cheap. Other devices can be found by doing a Google search for "model aircraft locators".

RE: Pulse Jet engine in airplane
I remember seeing a demonstration of a Dynajet in the high school auditorium in the 1950s. It could only run for 10 seconds when static. And the engine did turn bright orange. At the Willow Grove NAS Nats back then the control-line jets were unbelievably loud. Pulse jets have no throttle and burn a lot of fuel.

RE: Standardizing battery connectors?
> I really like the looks of the block connectors with the thumb latch. < Avoid these connectors like the plague. They were never intended to be connected and opened repeatedly as they get loose quickly, can heat up and blacken, and have even been reported to start a fire.

RE: Iron Sock Problems. How can you clean a dirty sock?
If I remember correctly the color in Monokote is contained within the adhesive layer. If you use Ultracote the iron cover will stay cleaner as the color is in the plastic film itself.

RE: Probably silly question!
The male connectors belong on the motor leads. You never want the power source to end in (possibly live) bare terminals. If you are asking about the color relationships when connecting the motor, just switch any pair of leads to get the correct rotation.

What's up with shrinking the type used in posted messages? It used to be very easy to read and now it is all scrunched down. Is this some kind of economy measure?

There is a construction article for fully detailed, retractable landing gear of the F4F Wildcat in the July, 2009 issue of Flying Models. The plan is number CD373. The construction article for the plane is in the August issue. That model has a 56" wingspan. The landing gear is an amazing piece of work.

From a magazine some years ago: There are two ways of cutting sticks to the right length: the direct method and the indirect method. The direct method- cut the stick too short. The indirect method- cut the stick too long, and then sand it too short. (G)
