RE: Art-Tech 3Ch Cessna 182 RC Radio Control Plane
Like Kiwi said, go brushless, you wont believe the difference to standard!!!! i learnt to fly on this plane (and play with powertrains) and if you have the patience you will get the bug and next thing you know you will be buying gas planes hey Kiwi!!(nice work on the RV4[:D])

RE: Art-Tech 3Ch Cessna 182 RC Radio Control Plane
Did you see the wing bending? Mine didnt like it after a few hard turns- even with a CF strip along the top. The wing is complete with its extension now, has an extra 15cm added to it, hope it makes up for the added weight of the tail dragger setup. The Spitfire is a real handful to fly, but man its quick compared to the Cessna! The G300 had its second flight last weekend but old mate reversed his aileron servos by mistake and the inevitable happened, Hes been getting a lot of building practise

RE: Art-Tech 3Ch Cessna 182 RC Radio Control Plane
Just bought a GWS Spitfire, looks great but I reckon it will be a handfull! Cant wait to see how much faster than the Cessna it is. I recently bought a Spektrum DX6i to fly my short lived Cub/L4 Grasshopper. I want to use this in the Spitfire(receiver) Does anyone know if I can run the AR6200 without the satellite receiver?I tried looking through the forums here but I dont have a couple of years up my sleeve to make sense/sift thru the other forums. Cheers, Dave

RE: Art-Tech 3Ch Cessna 182 RC Radio Control Plane
They look pretty good, also the price is spot on. Even with our lousy exchange rate it works out about $50 cheaper than the Cessna. I liked the look of the Focus 400, it could be a good next step plane, I've never flown a low winger. I just have to get it past the minister of finance

RE: On-Power steering~how to get some more?
thicker rear diff fluid effectively "locks" the rear under power and weight transfer and makes it hard for the front tires to turn the car. that is why a thicker front and lighter rear makes it easier to for the front to pull around the turns and the rear will follow/rotate better.

RE: CESSNA 182 ART TECH
Putting a brushless motor in these is the best thing you can do. They are a bit underpowered to be a good trainer I reckon. I put a brushless in after only a couple of flights and it helped me improve my skills a lot. Plus you have some great laughs with what it will do

Gday Stu, Good news to hear you are resurecting the Cessna. They really are like an old dog that just wont quit! You'll have to post some pics of the Wilga when its complete, Im looking for something else to try, something low wing with the potential for speed (but still easy to repair[:D])

RE: Art-Tech 3Ch Cessna 182 RC Radio Control Plane
Grasshopper is DEAD!!![&o] A 25 metre high gum tree reached out and grabbed it. Took 5 hours of throwing rocks, tennis balls with string tied to them, trying to pull the tree over with my 4wd and finally hooking it with thrown sticks with fishing line tied to it (the chainsaw was about to make an appearance[:@]) needless to say, my new Flightpower evo 2500mA battery looked like Eddie Murphy in Big Mommas House!! it was huge.... "How U Doin?!!!" The Cub caught every branch on the way down and looked like it had been drawn and quartered! Back to the trusty old Cessna, gonna try out the 2409 with a 8x6 prop to see how it compares to the ewatts motor. Also have converted it to a tail dragger, using the Cubs landing gear. Have been thinking about extending the wings to see how much slower it will fly (have a spare wing now after chasing Cockatoos, the hi g's caused the wing to fold in half, funny but costs money) pics coming, really gotta buy a video camera

RE: Kyosho MP777 SP2 Converted Electric
if u have access to a mill, u could turn the center diff around so that the spur gear is forward on the chassis and mount the brushless motor where the fuel tank used to be (you would need to machine some mounting holes and do some trial fitting). that way, the batteries could sit closer to the centerline if u moved them off the dirt guards. nice looking conversion by the way. brushless cars are fun [8D] I love my converted losi 8ight with my MMM/2200kv combo.

RE: Slow offroad 4WD platform for development
I do not own a Savage, nor am I a fanboy [8|] but I do know that it is a reliable, cheap rig (one of the things he was looking for). Somone else suggested a Summit, so I simply pointed out that a Flux would be larger and probably stronger. A large crawler is a tough rig and does travel at the speed he desires (walking speed), but there ISN'T MUCH ROOM for all the electronics controller, sensors, video, processing computers, and such that he wants to run. Space on a crawler is always limited. A traxxas emaxx would be a good alternative; it does have room and parts are cheap. Also, you could look into a used truggy. It would be faster, but could be converted to electric and would have lots of room and be very tough. There are lots of options, just look around and others will have good ideas as well.

RE: Slow offroad 4WD platform for development
for large size, durability, and cheap parts, why not look at an HPI Savage? It would be comparable in size to what you have and be very durable and cheap. also, it could be converted to electric (or just buy the flux...) and be geared very low if need be. I hesitate with crawlers because they are quite slow and no room and the summit is very expensive for what you want.

RE: Art-Tech 3Ch Cessna 182 RC Radio Control Plane
My landing gear has had to many hard landings and is no longer with the Cessna! Makes for very nice looking belly landings on the grass!! Our "strip" was 3 metres wide and had 4 metre high trees lining it, not good for a learner trying to line up for a landing. Have marked out a strip on our local footy oval to practise on, is much easier for me and the plane! Am maidening the Grasshopper tomorrow (depending on this stinking monsoonal weather) fingers crossed

RE: Art-Tech 3Ch Cessna 182 RC Radio Control Plane
Hey Ash, your setup is a lot more weight friendly. I think that was my problem, 2 extra servos 1/3 of the way ot the wing was playing havoc with the balance(in every direction!!). Next time I get a chance Im gonna try and set mine up like yours. What did you use for hinges? tape?, I used electrical insulation tape for mine which worked for baout 4 applications then they started dropping[&o] Anyway back to the skies tomorrow, we have had great flying weather here lately, unlike the rest of the country[&o]

Hi Ash, I posted some pics a while back here, cant remember how far! They operated ok but I couldnt notice much difference in flight, after reading some articles in mags I think they werent coming down far enough. Im going to try mounting them with proper hinges and longer servo arms. Im on hols in Kiwi land at the moment so nothing is happening for the next week. The other day watched a full size P-51 and a Catalina do some circuits over Christchurch, man that was something else[sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif]

RE: Losi 2.0 8ight-E
ill have to tap mine as well for the M4, but right now i am running the M3 and they hold up fine. dont forget to add some foam rubber in the tray to keep the batteries from sliding. and i am sure u know, but with that motor, u might want to consider running a 13 or 12 tooth pinion. very nice car though! congrats

That would be about the perfect scenario zx32tt. Do you or anyone else know where I can get prints that big scanned? My first thought was Kinko's. Also, where would I be doing the tracing? In Solidworks or AutoCAD? I have access to both.

RE: Whats The Diff?
i havent tried a locked setup in any of my 1/8 buggies, but i can def tell when one of my diff is too tight for the conditions im running, esp the rear diff. if it is too tight, from the middle to exit of the turn, it wants to understeer terribly (usually the middle diff is stiff too). i cant imagine how odd/hard it would be to negotiate turn with all diffs locked or overally stiff.

RE: From Plans to CAD
I was wondering if scanning would work. That would be my first choice since it would get the proper geometry. I was just worried about not being able to dimension anything and the lines possibly not being closed. I suppose it would be something to try though. The story was greatly appreciated Dan. That's very cool you got to tour their facility. I thought I had read somewhere that it did actually get certified. One thing I do know is it's incredibly hard to find any information about the plane. That's definitely one thing that draws me to it is the mystery. Happy waiting to fly and keep information coming!

RE: From Plans to CAD
Thanks Dan. I was actually lucky enough to find a copy of that R/C Modeler issue on ebay. I want to say it was August 1980 but I can't say for sure without checking. I also got the plans off of ebay, it appears be a fairly straight forward build. It would just be really fun/nice to draw the whole thing out in 3d and see how it will all fit together and look.

From Plans to CAD
I'd like to find out the best way to get the plans I have into Solidworks. Is the best way going to be use calipers to get dimensions at certain points on each part and draw it out? Or is there some other way to get all the dimensions for all parts needed to build the plane accurately? Thanks for any help. I will also add that I am attempting to do this drawing for a Wing Derringer. If anyone has any info on this plane, full scale or scaled down please feel free to share.

RE: Should I get the Mamba Monster 2200 Kv or 2650 Kv motor?
i just ran my converted 8ight with the 2200kv setup and a zippy 5s, 4000mah battery and a 15 tooth pinion from losi... WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I pulled the front wheels off the ground and held a wheelie with only a 5,7,3 setup in the diffs.... WOW insanely fast. ill have to take it to the track for proper testing of heat, but around a parking lot, it was barely warm to the touch (the motor). ill have to get a 4s setup to control the power and maybe shave weight.
