RE: Control issue
I have the mini super cub from E-Hobbies. It has a three channel transmitter. No ailerons. Only rudder and elevator and throttle. I will have to practice with my turns and giving it a little up on the elevator when turning.

Control issue
When flying my plane I have trouble turning it. When I try to turn the plane it wants to drop down and lose altitude. How can I keep it from doing that?

RE: RCU Roll call time..Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Texas but I live in Bumpass, Virginia now. Bumpass is in Louisa County. We're about 40 miles northwest of Richmond Va. One can drive right through Bumpass and never know they were there unless they drive right by the post office.

Mini Super Cub
Got my mini super cub up again today. WAY UP !!! If I had to guess I'd say about 300 feet high. I was doing pretty good with it but it wanted to fly in circles and I had a hard time making it come back toward me. Eventualy I turned off the throttle and let it come down way off in the field across the road. Wore me out walking after it. I'm thinking I needed to adjust the trim some but at the time I was so excited to have it flying so well I wasn't thinking of anything else. The landing gear fell out and I had to go find that with my metal detector. I didn't get quite so nervous this time with the controls. This little plane sure is a tough little thing. I crashed it into the side of the house the other day and thought sure I I'd have to go pick up the pieces but there was no damage. The wind picked up today so I had to put it back in the hanger( my basement ) till next time.

RE: Trainers - How easy are they?
Your right about finding an instructor. I wish there was one aound here I could get help from. I got my mini super cub up and flying but I have trouble keeping it up long enough to learn anything about flying it. This thing WANTS to fly. It just needs someone who knows what they'r doing at the controls. I've already done more with it than I ever did with my J-3 Piper. Yesterday I had it up pretty high but it flew over some tree tops and I lost control of it. I found it way off in the open field across the road. The weeds there are waist high and no damage was done. Also if I could learn not to be so nervous when it's flying I think I might do better. I think I tend to over react on the controls. Someone said I need practice. They were right. I need lots of practice. I hope I can get the practice without wrecking my plane. So far I've been pretty fortunate in that except for the J-3 Piper cub I have. I finaly got a new fuselage for that and got evrything transfered from the old one. I think I'l hold off on trying to fly that one for a while till I get better with my mini cub. There are two model airplane clubs not too far from here. I tried e-mailing them to ask when I could come out to they'r field but couldn't get an answere from either of them. I'm kind of relunctant to just drive in uninvited.

New Plane
I finaly got to try out my new plane. It's a mini super cub from E-Hobies. This plane is so easy to fly. If I can fly this plane I believe a chimpanzee could fly it. I had it up and flying on my very first try. It had a couple of rough landings but NO damage. If I can catch a few days with no wind or a real light breeze I can get better with keeping it up. For the first time I have confidence that I might be able to learn to fly radio controled airplanes. It doesn't seem like it's a skill reserved for those with a much higher IQ than myself anymore.

RE: For those that want to be self taught...
There are two clubs near where I live. I have e-mailed both of them and cannot get an answere. I won't burn up a half of a tank of gas going to ask if I can join there club or if they have instructors there. It looks like I will be self taught. I've been thinking. Somewhere sometimes somebody had to learn the hard way. Who taught the instructors? Other instructors. Where did they learn? Still other instructors. Somewhere down the line someone taught themselves to fly. I agree that finding an instructor is a good thing but I think a person can learn without an instructor if they really want to. Somebody did or we wouldn't have instructors. Who taught the very first pilot to fly? There were no pilots ahead of him.

RE: Official Hobby Zone
I got a Super Cub from E-Hobies and so far I really like it. I had it out flying this morning for a few minutes but the wind picked up and I had to quit. I am a complete newbie at this yet I was able to get my plane up with no trouble at all. If your talking about the same Super Cub I have you'l like it. It's real easy to fly.

Trainers - How easy are they?
I've been looking around through several model plane sites and more that a few advertise that they'r trainer planes are very easy to fly. No experience necessary. My question is why do they say that. Since I've been reading through this forum I've seen it written more that a few times that if one has never flown before it's a real good idea to find an instructor and get help. Advertising NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY seems wrong to me.

RE: Balancing fuselage
Thanks for the reply. I'l check the paper work that came with the plane and see what it says. Maybe a new prop wouln't hurt anything either. The one I have is sort of bent. The plane came with two but one is broken already. The Piper J-3 I have is the one advertised as the best trainer for $69.95 I believe. It's one of those cheap RTF's. Never mind cheap. It I can master this I can move on to something better.

RE: ACT-Anti Crash Technology
When I get my new plane I do intend to seek out an instructor for help. As for the ACT it is advertised that it can be turned off in mid flight if I need to. There are several places around here to go and get help with this adventure. One of them I already know. The guy used to work on my CB radio back when I was still dumptruckin. I know that I will have crashes and damage my plane and this does not discourage me. I thought maybe a plane with Act on it could at least help me get the thing off the ground and keep it in the air till I could get control of it. As for space to fly I have plenty of that. We live out in the middle of nowhere in a place called Bumpass Va.

RE: ACT-Anti Crash Technology
When I get my new plane I very well plan to seek out an instructor. There are several not too far from here. The ACT- Anti-Crash-Technology I read about isn't a gyro system. It's an electric eye type of thing. I'm not real concerened with doing aerobatics to start with so if it can just help me keep my plane in the air till I get used to it then I concider it a plus.

Does anyone here know anything about what they call anti crash technology. Is it good for someone just starting out in the model airplane hobby? I was looking around for a new plane and noticed that some of them have ACT which can be turned off while flying if someone wants to. They say it's a big help for beginners. What do you say?

I went looking for a new fuselage for my J-3 Piper Cub in the spare parts listing and it says they'r sold out. Does anyone know if or how long it will be untill they have them back in stock? The fuselage I need is only $15.00 which to me is a very reasonable price. I'd like to get back in the saddle with this hobby as soon as possible. I've got the fever now!

Help for beginner
Is there anyone here in the forum that lives in Virginia near Louisa? I was thinking maybe if an experienced RC pilot lived near here maybe I could get them to give me a few pointers on flying RC. ( At they'r convenience ) I've already crashed one plane although it was a cheapie. I expect my next plane will wind up the same way. The only thing I've learned is I need help with this.

RE: Well, it finally happened...
I also crashed my plane. I had the Exceed RC 3 J-3 Piper cub. one of those really cheap beginners planes. I don't think it's repairable either. It took a nose dive from about 40 feet straight down. All of the elecronics are still good so I can switch them to another plane when I get one. I hope I have better luck with the next one.
