Michael If you view the video, wtach the short take-off for the Ryan. What I meant by thrust to weight ratio. Second video is the new retracts for the 301-d I.

RE: RC electric airliners
Micheal The power train is the same has the Frontier. However what has changed is the 301-c AUW is considerably lower providing a thrust to weight ratio of around 75%. It is a 3s setup with Mega motor and Alpha fan -a good solution. Video of engine test. [link=http://downloads.edfmodel.com/qantas%20engine%20test.wmv]301 engine test[/link]

A few more photos. After doing the 1400mm Wright Brother project, I do suspect there is something that is not often reported. Even with the water tower forward, to achieve C of G, -perhaps a problem. The engine is quite aft. Obviously it was over-come. Interesting.

RE: RC electric airliners
To clarify a few comments. The C of G is model has to be about 20% aft of leading edge because of the short canard (short canard issue -well documented) However, a brief inspection of the large masses in the Wright Flier (engine, props, man) suggests their C of G is well aft of this 20% position. So the question is how did they balance it? Obviously in the correct manner, but it has me beat.

Wingspan: 1330mm (52"), length 1195mm (47"). Weight: AUW approximately 1350g (2.9 lb). Control surfaces: All moving tail plane, ailerons and steerable nose wheel. U/C: Fixed. Hardware: Alpha 60/25 fans, Mega 16/7/4 brushless motors, Dualsky 25 Amp controllers and Hitec servos. Cost -all hand custom made. Certainly on the more expensive side. RE: EDF Airliner build thread
Hello Kaltag Thank you for the very kind comments. The 309 maiden is complete. A few circuits because of a trimming problem, but otherwise handles well. The C of G was very close to spot-on. Rear retract units handled take-off and landing well, although there was no gear up in the flight because of the trimming issue. A pre-production price offer now on website. Video to follow. Ian.
ORIGINAL: ElectricFlyGuy This 3M Adhhesive spray should NOT hurt any material that is is sprayed on, definately not foam. This is regulary used by most foamie builders for skinning their planes. If it won't hurt foam then. it should not hurt any styrene, or any plastics either. Good luck, and keep us posted( and with pics if possible). take care, Scott[;)]
ORIGINAL: linkadrip I have 3M Super 77 Multipurpose adhesive spray i havent used it on any foam yet. So i should test it out on some foam before using it or just go and find the minwax polycrilic spary and treat the foam then i can use the 3M adhesive without any worry of melting the foam.?

ElectricFlyGuy -there are two types of 3M spray glue. The one available inside the US WILL eat foam. There is no doubt about this. Outside the US in some countries the old 3M can is still available and does not eat foam. Always test. This needs to be clear or someone will make a terrible miss of there foam.

RE: EDF Airliner build thread
Hello All It has been some time since I posted. This does not mean any inactivity. Quite the reverse. Some points of interest. My Cathay Pacific 307 is continued through its series of test flights. When improvements and new hardware used, it gets tested. Small things are being changed and improved on a continuos basis. There are two new videos at http://www.edfmodel.com/307-video-gallery-xidc29228.html Interesting take-off. The 12 x 1.5 wheels have been used on the rear U/C and the U/C legs shortened so the model sits closer to the ground. The take-off’s are short and easily achieved with the twelve 1.5 wheels. Sure, the eight 2 wheels can be used on grass (as in the maiden flight video), but they are not required on well trimmed grass. Consequently, I have removed from the 307 specs the eight wheel option. Additionally tested was a Robart nose mechanical retract unit. (Part # 602 90 Deg. Nose with 1/8" wire strut). The design of the rear retract is complete, but will say nothing until I have tested it. A lot of the improvements have come about through the development of the 309. As they are found, the 307 gets updated as well. A lot of common parts in both type of thing. A working solution for retracts is not far off. Onwards & upwards. Ian. RE: EDF Airliner build thread
Yes -agreed. That is precisely the reason two sets of U/C are provided as a choice with the 307 kit. I believe early on in this thread some one made the comment flying off grass requires a different approach, and usually longer legs. As your pictures show, not all of us have tarmac runways and so grass has to do. For this reason, U/C legs tend to be longer. Have a look at some of the videos at http://www.edfmodel.com/video-clips-xidc8766.html to see perhaps tastes to your liking (tarmac take-offs of various airliners) On a completely different subject, nearly completed a virgin Atlantic engine. Incidentally, Larry Lewis has started a thread on a 307 airliner build at http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=650150 for those wanting to follow along. Mean while, I am cooking up something quite interesting here. Ian.
