RE: Extreme Flight 88
Congrats on the maiden flight awesome! I wish you much enjoyment and longevity with you Yak. James, are you and your wife going to join us at the FX3D event in Jacksonville this year? Would be great to get to hang with you two! Hope you are doing well.

RE: Extreme Flight__88
Forgot to mention the shipping rate-I wish the carriers would offer us a flat rate! We charge exactly what we are charged by the carrier, not one penny more. We never charge any bogus handling fees and we pass along any volume discount we receive from the carrier. We are happy to supply the weight and dimensions of each box so you can get an online quote from the carrier. You will find that we charge considerably less than what is quoted by the carrier. There is no way we can compete with a huge entity like Tower Hobbies! They have hundreds of employees and ship thousands of packages a day. Their shipping discount from the carriers are enormous I'm sure. We are a small family run business with 4 employees (my wife and myself included) that ships an average of 50 packages a day. We haven't raised tthe price on our 50cc aircraft since we began selling them in 2004 even though our cost has gone up over 35%. We can't afford to take a hit on the shipping.

RE: Extreme Flight__88
Barry, glad to hear that the Edge arrived in good shape. Thanks for your feedback, we will certainly take these things into consideration. On some of our larger aircraft we do use a cowl ring but we forgo this on the 50cc size aircraft due to weight. A plywood cowl ring that is sufficiently glued and glassed into place adds 6 ounces to the weight of the cowl. That is getting close to adding a half a pound of unnecessary weight to a 50cc airframe, I just can't do that!

Not many female Yak drivers James. There may be a yellow/black lurking around here but I am sure there are a couple of the Russian Thunder schemes.

RE: Help solve problem!
What kind of throw do you have on the elevator? For low rate precison aerobatic maneuvers you should have no more than 8-10 degrees of elevator travel. It sounds to me like you are inducing a high speed stall situation with too much elevator input. Try adjusting your elevator rate to the recommended throws and this should help. Also make sure both elevators are moving together throughout the entire range of movement. Hope this helps.

RE: Extreme Flight 88
Reflex would mean the ailerons would be raised slightly from neutral. This would cause a lot of problems.

RE: Desert Aircraft DA 60
The header from the 120 will not work as it is mounted with exhaust ports down, where as the mounting of the 60 will require the header to bolt to the side of the cylinder and use a wrap around header shape. Pipes will be fine but header must be different.

RE: Extreme Flight 88
Stephane, no upthrust is needed. The Yak should be set up 0-0-0, which is 0 degrees for engine, 0 for wing and 0 for stab. Check to make sure their is no reflex in your ailerons and confirm proper CG using the 45 degree line test.

RE: Extreme Flight 88
Glad to hear you are enjoying the Yak Barry. I 've had similar issues with the pipe slipping out of the Teflon coupler. One solution is to drill a small hole through the coupler and pipe and tap it for a 4-40 bolt. Put a washer on a short 4-40 bolt that is just long enough to get through the thickness of the coupler and pipe wall and insert it with a couple drops of red loctite. This has worked well for me.

James, it was great to get to spend some time with you and your wife in Jacksonville. You are both very nice people and I truly enjoyed getting to know both of you. I hope that you find some of my suggestions useful, and I hope you enjoy flying your Yak as much as I enjoy flying mine. Thanks again for letting me fly your electrified 74 inch Yak, I really enjoyed it!

RE: DL55, DA50 Which is better?
No need to argue about or try to defend your choice. Buy and fly what you like and what makes you happy. For me that will always be DA. If other brands make you happy, by all means use them. At the end of the day it's all about enjoying our aircraft and having a good time with friends, not arguing over brands on internet forums!

Frank, in over 6 years of using this control horn/ball link arrangement in our aircraft I've never heard of a single failure, but if it makes you feel more comfortable, by all means use this method. We all develop our own preferences and use what works best for each of us.

RE: Extreme Flight 88
Really not planning on it. I hate to recommend a product from a manufacturer when I don't know how they will treat or service their customers in the future. I've already had a couple of bad experiences. It is really frustrating when a customer calls me up with an engine problem and the manufacturer won't respond to their phone calls or emails. I feel that makes me and my company look bad. We make such a small margin on engine sales and it is very difficult for me to do anything for the customer in these situations. I know DA will be here tomorrow, next month, next year, 10 years from now. I also know they will provide excellent service when one of my customers has an issue. To me, that makes all the difference in the world.
