The ignitions are really looking good, Adrian. When do you plane to have the new website up and running?

RE: CDI gr8flyer55
Hi Adrian, You may have told me about it but I don't recall. Way back when, we were using .82uF up to 1.2uF Metal Polyethylene Caps on some of the UAV ignitions to get the maximum energy transfer to the output coil. The higher the Cap values, the longer it took to charge them fully and using up any residual charge for a second firing would make that charge time longer yet. At the time we decided it was best to fire one very substantial spark and allow the Cap more charge time between firings. Multiple spark may work fine with the lower Cap values. It would only be a problem at higher RPMs anyway. MSD Ignitions have used this method for many years. Any news on the WYK carburetor testing?

RE: CDI gr8flyer55
I have not been following this. Are you charging more than one Capacitor to get multiple sparks or using residual charge on the initial output Cap? Guess I oughta read the whole thread.[;)]

RE: Engine ID help
It has been a long time but I likely used a film of Permatex Ultra Copper. I would look for a leak between the intake port surface and the carb also. Unless it is a major leak I doubt that is causing the pulse problem just because of the volume differential between the crankcase and the pump chamber in the carb. Can you see fuel drawing in the line as you crank the engine? If so, the pump is working. One thing to check on the carb is to make sure the check valve gasket flappers rest flat against the ports. The check valve gasket may be reversed. I would install a re-build kit in the carb just to be on the safe side.

RE: Engine ID help
I had a couple of these back in the day when they were the hot ticket. Mine were notorious for case leaks. Do a soap bubble test on the area where the case splits. Take the plug out and daub some soapy water on the split while rotating the crank so that the piston is on the downstroke. That creates pressure in the case and will blow bubbles if the case is leaking. From your pix it looks like it is at least weeping oil.

RE: Engine ID help
From the case back it appears to be a 35cc Webra Bully. Originally it had a Webra ignition on it and the pickup wire has been cut off. It appears to have been modified (perhaps by C H Ignitions) to use an ignition that actually works.

RE: ZDZ 40 stumbles
If this is the rear exhaust version you may be experiencing a vapor lock in the carb due to heat from the muffler. I had the same problem to the point of deadsticking until I installed an aluminum heat shield between the muffler and carb. After I installed that it ran great throughout a flight. The first few minutes into a flight the engine ran fine and gradually the throttle response became worse and would not throttle up. Eventually, if I did not land, it would just die in the air.

Does anyone have the engine mounting dimensions for the OS FT-300 twin? Also will need the dimension from the crankshaft centerline to the mounting pattern. If you have this information please post it here or PM me. Thanks

RE: Saito 180-150 conversion Kit
The Saito FG-36 has a bronze bushing on the crankshaft end of the rod. The others are unbushed and run aluminum on the steel crankpin. Saito now recommends 20:1 ratio and that is the mix I run. Ed V.

RE: Sato FA 220 Converted to GAS?
I converted my FA 220A to gas. I would not recommend it and I would not do it again. Do a search on FG 36 problems (cutting out, sticking valves, etc.) They run great as a glow engine but have severe limitations as a gasser.

Can anyone identify these items? I found them in my old parts box and don't remember them or have any documentation. They are identified as "Robart" items. Obviously they are fuel system items and I cannot find them on Robarts website. Does anyone know what they are and how they work? Instruction sheet?

RE: ZDZ Engine Mount Templates (60-RV & Super 80J
Here is one for the Super 80 in .pdf format. The carb must be removed and re-installed after the engine is mounted. Otherwise you will have a really, really large hole in the mounting plate to clear the complete carb. Check the hole pattern to make sure it is printed out to the correct scale.

The Kingspark ( http://www.kingtekchina.com/products ) unit is relatively small but filling the case with potting compound really causes an unnecessary weight penalty. I don't know anything about the reliability or availability but the size is good.

RE: GAS Saito
ORIGINAL: Pete Bergstrom Not quite sure where you got your pricing information from but it is about 45% too high. We should be showing this at the iHobby/Chicago show in late October. We've been flying our sample since May with great results. Pete
So that puts the price at roughly $1000 (or less than a 300TL glow engine). Is that correct? Is there any further testing being done to determine why the FG-36 coughs and sputters in a roll maneuver? Thanks

RE: GAS Saito
The FG-57T is nice but how cool would a FG-72T be? At around $1750 USD the FG-57T is out of my price range for a 57cc engine no matter how good it sounds. I think I will just feed my old reliable FA-300TL a bit more of the expensive fuel and call it good. I converted my FA-220A over to gas using FG-36 carb and conrod and had almost as much in it as the original price for the FG-36 - before Horizon went nutzo on Saito prices. I wonder how long before DLE branches into four strokes at reasonable prices. DLE is the only Chinese engine manufacturer I would trust to do it right.

RE: ZDZ 40 Flying
Is it rear exhaust? I had to install a .015 sheet aluminum shield between the Bisson muffler and the carburetor to keep it from vapor locking from the excess heat. The symptoms were similar but more severe, in that it eventually dead sticked if I did not land. Just something to consider.
